Welcome to our Butterfly Sanctuary! Come, and you will leave in awe at the breathtaking, almost translucent way a butterfly looks, the changes in color that take place when the sun is shining on its velvety wings in such a manner that makes them radiate exquisiteness & grace. We dare you to accurately describe such a wonderful experience! Our mission is to educate about these elusive fragile creatures and their significance, halt effects of climate change, recover threatened butterflies, increase numbers of widespread species, inspire people to understand them, deliver butterfly conservation, as well as promote awareness and protection actions in our diverse ecosystem. Unfortunately some species of butterflies are threatened by the loss of their natural habitat. When my favorite restaurant in PV, Warique, closed down last year, I was sad. But our friends, the owners Krystian Krys and Fabian RS - had a dream they had to follow. And that was to open up a butterfly sanctuary in PV called Jardin Magico. So of course we had to be there opening day last week! What a magical place they’ve created! It’s about a 40 minute drive from downtown PV (we grabbed an Uber but you can also take a bus). It’s located on Rancho Tierra Madre in Campo Verde. They spent a year taking empty land and turned it into an amazing array of butterflies, plants and art. They will be offering tours for visitors and schools and will sell the butterfly cocoons to the 40 other butterfly sanctuaries in Mexico (most of whom buy their butterflies from Costa Rica since they are in too cold of a climate to raise their own).
Take a few hours and go explore this new and beautiful attraction in PV.

My wife and I have been wanting to check out this butterfly sanctuary since they opened, but COVID lockdowns delayed those plans a bit. We finally got out there this week, though, and it was well worth the visit!
It’s a little off the beaten path in PV, so it felt wonderfully remote. The garden and sanctuary itself is in a large tented enclosure, and it has a path that winds you past a ton of different plants, flowers, and decorations. Amid them, butterflies are flying, and the guide that walked us through pointed out butterfly eggs on the leaves, and tons of caterpillars that we never would’ve seen if we were alone. The guide we had also was incredibly knowledgeable about all stages of butterfly life, and they even let my wife and I release two butterflies that had just hatched that morning. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend to visit and to support these guys.
If you go, just note that going earlier when they open is probably better (the guy at the garden even told us this). The butterflies were active for us, but they are more active in the morning. Plus, we went at 1pm in July, so it certainly was hot, especially since we were wearing masks. So if you go, perhaps consider going when they first open.

A little far but overall a great way to spend a couple hours. The guide was very good and knowledgeable, we learned a ton and the admission was cheap, they do research as well to help understand butterflies. Great place

A visit to Jardin Magico in early June exceeded my expectations. This is a great visit to see closeup the lifecycle of many beautiful butterflies. The enclosed space is beautiful with many species of plants important to the lifecycle of many different butterflies. Our tour guide spoke both English and Spanish which was necessary for me and my guest. I thought that I was very knowledgeable about butterfly lifecycles, but I learned a great deal.

Had a wonderful visit to the butterfly garden. We went there on Earth Day and it was a perfect way to celebrate nature. Our guide was very informative and we learned so much about the different kinds of butterflies, how the eggs are collected and how the mature butterflies are released.
The enclosed garden is beautiful, large variety of flowers and plants. It was so peaceful and a perfect way to view the butterflies.

A magical place in a rural environment, perfect for a day of relaxation and learning. There are lots of butterfly species in the garden, and the best part is that they are not only there for entertainment, but the sanctuary is actually carrying out conservation work for these native species. I had the chance to get up close to a monarch (I carried it in my finger for almost an hour), which then left to be part of the surrounding ecosystem. The area surrounding the sanctuary has a lagoon where many water fowl and turtles live, and there is also a restaurant and a massage area.

Today was my second visit to Jardin Magico. It is so peaceful there; it was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon during a chaotic time. There were 2 small children in our group who were enchanted by the mariposas and all the colorful flowers in the sanctuary. I adopted a butterfly in order to give support to this project. I look forward to returning often.

Mariposario Jardin Magico is a wonderful and tranquil place as you gaze in amazement at the closeness of nature. Both the owners and staff are very knowledgeable and pass on their expertise to visitors with ease. I highly recommend this as a tourist attraction and as a place of natural calm and serenity.

This was such a beautiful surprise. Don't judge a book by its cover. when you drive in, it is a little rustic and not clear where you should go but, it is right under your nose. The beauty of the butterflies is inside the building where the expertise and committment of staff is evident. They teach you about their mission and the native butterflies. We got to release butters in to the wild!

Highly recommend this very unique experience. Fabian’s passion & knowledge for butterflies along with his charisma and energy really made elevated the tour to another level. It’s a short drive from the center/boardwalk/hotel area.
