Ground transportation in Mexico

We use Expedia for booking vacations in Mexico on both the Caribbean and Pacific sides. Gray Line is the transportation firm that is used by Expedia and they are great. Once you get through all the tour/timeshare gang inside the airport and get outside, it's always easy to find the Gray Line representatives. They are always friendly and very helpful. We have never had an issue of getting to the hotel from the airport nor getting picked up at the hotel to go back to the airport.

When traveling to Mexico, you have to go through a room where everyone tries to steer you to a counter to then offer you free stuff and get you to go through a time share presentation. Walking through Puerto Vallarta airport, I asked one of these people for Speedy Shuttles and got pointed to a counter. Once I realized that this was a time share thing and I had been tricked, I asked where Speedy Shuttle really was and told to go out the doors, turn left and look for the people in Blue and Yellow shirts. I did and within 2 minutes was in a shuttle heading to our hotel. Grey Line does hand you a brochure showing a number of additional activities and asks you to meet with a rep the next morning at your hotel to confirm departure time. It is a clever way of getting you to come back the next day and sign up for activities. However, since we had already signed up for stuff before arriving, he simply confirmed the pick up time and that was it. He was VERY nice and there was NO pressure to buy anything else. Because of that, we are using them when we return in June and will most likely ask them to set up a round of golf.

Great service

This was my wife and I second trip to Mexico. We used Gray Line for transportation to and from the airport, several attractions and we even went on a tour hosted by Gray Line. Every driver we had was prompt. The drivers were courteous and were safe on the road while also getting us to our destination quickly each time. We will use Gray Line again!

We booked your service for a shuttle from airport to hotel (and back again). We booked a shuttle and were told it could accommodate up to 5 suitcases. We only had 3. They were a normal size for a 2 week trip. We pre-paid. Not cheap, but fair for a shuttle. When leaving the PV airport they sent us a small car. The suitcases fit. Not ideal but at least we got successfully to resort. They said they only send a shuttle if multiple groups. However we had a really poor experience on the return trip. A cab with a really small trunk came. Even 1 of our 3 suitcases would not fit. So the Gray Line rep said they could get a bigger vehicle. But we would have to pay more. I asked why when we had already pre paid for a shuttle. He said that we were the only ones so, no shuttle. That is fine...but after we had booked a shuttle (and paid for it), we were forced to pay more money to get to the airport. They then sent a van...but only if we paid cash. It was not a huge amount more (200 pesos)..but we feel we were being scammed. And we had to pay to make sure we could get to the airport. We were very disappointed and the rep only shrugged when I asked why we had to pay more, when we had already paid for a shuttle. We go to PV each year and definitely will not use this service again.

Buyer Beware!! We purchased the Extreme Adventure through Gray Line (the representative was onsite at our hotel) who claimed to be giving us the best price. Our fault for not researching further; ticket prices were $83 if we purchased directly with Adventure Vallarta, $99 through Gray Line's website, and we paid $119. I contacted Gray Line thinking it could have been a simple oversight, but they said there was nothing they could do. The adventure itself was fantastic, just hate the fact that Gray Line is taking advantage of travelers. **Note - had to give one star, but otherwise I would rate Gray Line as awful

Scam going on

We booked a city tour with Gray Line Puerto Vallarta (agent's name Leslie) while we stayed at the all-inclusive resort. Do not book and be very careful. We went with other passengers (15-16 of us from different resorts). They stopped at Malecon for 15 minutes then Church of Our Lady Guadalupe for another 15 minutes. Not enough time to do anything or buy any souvenirs, trust me! Next, the driver and guide took us to a tequila manufacture place. They stayed there longer and constantly prompted us to buy tequila. After that, they took us to a leather store and a jewelry store that were neither a historical nor sightseeing place. We were there for a long time. We all felt like we were held hostages. They took us to places they'd make commission$ off us rather than tourists attraction places. After that, they took us to this eatery place all the way up in the jungle by the creek. The place had tons of flies, no restaurant name, no price list or menu posted and strangely no general public or any other tour groups - just gray line tour groups. Although this city tour was advertised "with lunch", the waiter brought us a bill of USD 89 for one plate of fajita and 3 water bottles when we were done eating. It was not even a bill, just a piece of paper. And the guy singing with a guitar billed us USD 20. I was shocked. And the waiter said to us "you have to leave tip". His attitude was very threatening that I just wanted to get back to the resort safe. That place is opened just to scam Gray Line tour groups. The entire tour was very unpleasant.

I always use Gray Line whenever it is available when I travel. I can always count on them to be on time and they are always courteous. I highly recommend when you need transportation to and from the airport and also their many excursions they offer.

Over all I can’t complain about the service. At the PVR airport you will experience total chaos as you exit and finding the right agent was a bit of a chalk angle. That said I am not convinced this service is cheaper than taxi which I used a lot while in PVR.

Gray Line Puerto Vallarta provided everything I needed in a shuttle service between airport and hotel - safety, comfort, punctuality. Gray Line staff were courteous, friendly and most importantly, bilingual. Communication from them was crystal clear and timely. I would definitely use Gray Line Puerto Vallarta again and would highly recommend this service to anyone looking for hassle-free transportation between airport and hotel.

Unethical and Dishonest Policies -- Avoid this Tour Operator

Gray Line Puerta Vallarta took our money without refunding within their own set policies! Their official website offered a 24 hour cancellation policy incase their were any changes in travel planning. We ended up cancelling our tour over a month before participation and they refused to give our money back. When we would call their customer service team they would hang up on us when we tried to follow up. Absolutely abysmal.

Despite what you see highlighted on their social media platforms I would avoid this company for ANY excursions and book elsewhere. Worst customer service experience I've ever had with a tour company and I travel often.

We found another tour company in Puerta Vallarta and recommend you do too. Read the reviews and you will find the experience above is quite common with this company.
