I’m not a fine art gallery person in the states, but here... I’m sold. Loved Galleria Dante on Basilio Badillo 269. Owned by Joseph and Claire Guarniere since 1988, it was a delight to talk to her for a bit. They have 60 artists represented there. It’s so light and airy and the walls are all painted white. They even have an area open to the sky, which is protected from the rains. Paintings in those areas are hung at least 4 feet from the ground in case of a splash. Claire also said the weather does not hurt the paintings at all.

An artist was actively painting a big one in a side room and it was amazing to watch. He said his paintings usually take 3 weeks.

Some guys were contemplating purchasing a very large piece they had found in the main room and were deciding if it should be rolled or crated. Claire was saying they do both services, and nothing damages the painting but when it arrives to it’s destination it has to be re-stretched (if rolled) = so there is a cost there. So, if you are thinking of maybe purchasing a piece like this down here... check ahead of time to see how much it would cost where you live, to have it re-stretched when it arrives in “rolled form.” That’s good information to know before you come down which will assist you in making a decision and purchasing one.

When I was leaving, I gave one of the girls, the “artist names” that I was interested in. She followed up with an email to me with information about each artist. I think that was a nice touch. Be sure to stop in here on your next trip to Vallarta. I can’t wait to get back to their gallery.

We never miss visiting Galleria Dante when in town. The staff is wonderful and very helpful! They have the best selections of paintings, glasswork and sculptures. They also have a beautiful set up outdoor area for sculptures set in gardens. This year was the first time we found a piece we had to have, a glass piece held in an iron stand. We were also able to return one night and have a picture with the artist which was a real treat. The piece arrived fast and was well packed. Also, treat yourself when you are there and go upstairs and have lunch over looking the outdoor space.

We never miss visiting Galleria Dante when we are in PV. Our walls at home are full of art and there is no room for any more. So we have to treat the gallery as if it is a museum. They have really opened the place up since last year, taking out a lot of the walls that made it feel like a rabbit warren. Many artists are represented, and the art tends to be colorful, often whimsical. I always leave wishing I had room for a large Oscar Zamarripa work, but I console myself with the knowledge that I can come back to visit.

I truly enjoy visiting Galleria Dante. They have a very large collection with some impressive art work (both paintings and sculptures). Even if you are not a fan of an artist's perspective, it is very interesting to see his/her approach, etc.

What I find frustrating at Dante is that all the prices are ridiculously high. Virtually every art piece has a price tag starting at $2,500 - and most are significantly over that number. At times I have come into the gallery and they have mentioned that they can do discounts of "up to 50%", but if that is the case, just price your pieces more reasonably to start with. Who wants to ask about every piece of art to know what the "real price" is compared to the marked price?

Bottom line, great art if you want to window shop and just look. However, if you have any intention of purchasing anything go somewhere else because you are wasting your time.

I was amazed at how large this gallery is. There were at least 4 large rooms of paintings that I toured as well as a central courtyard with sculptures. Some of the artwork was quite wonderful. Well worth the visit when in Puerto Vallarta.

Just quite a surprise for us. We've walked past this treasure many times not realizing the extensive amount of art. The variety was impressive and the displays and beautiful garden like setting were breathtaking! For example, you really have to pause to notice all of the effort put into the presentations. One area we noticed had works of art around a bathtub. I'm guessing this was a lovely home at one point, but don't quote me! Makes me want to investigate more.
You really have to go more than once to absorb it all , and then some. We've been twice so far. The second time we had wine and tapas at the second floor bar/ restaurant. The flooring is beautiful and coordinates with the gorgeous curved bar.
A wonderful way to spend an afternoon !

The new renos at Galleria Dante are lovely. Gives the place a much more welcoming feel, and the artwork is much more visible. This is a beautiful gallery, with a huge variety of art. Worth a visit.

Galleria Dante is a large gallery, with enough space to showcase the artists who it represents. It does a good job of selecting a mix of interesting artists - mostly painters but also some sculptors - and displaying their work in a lovely setting. There's a cafe/restaurant on the 2nd floor and good washrooms. Worth a visit if you are in downtown Puerto Vallarta.

We stumbled by this place one day after breakfast. The art was amazing. I wanted to go home and paint or sculpt - even though I never have even tried. Being surrounded by all the creativity was a great way to start a day. I am sure many people will go there to buy beautiful treasures for their homes, but even if you are at the downsizing stage, you shouldn't miss this chance to be amongst such wonderful creations!

PV is home to several amazing galleries and they host an art walk during the week that I believe is when we found this shop. My MIL knew them all being an artist herself. I always enjoyed watching her interacting with the artists and talking about the different pieces.
