Thoughtful selection of stops and local flavors! Micah is delightful in her knowledge of culture and history and translates effortlessly. What a wonderful way to see and taste parts of Mazatlán we wouldn’t have known about. Fun for all ages. Highly recommend her tour!

This is my husband and I’s first time in Mazatlan, and we wanted some adventure besides water activities. I came across this tour from TripAdvisor, and we are glad we booked with Flavor Teller! Maaike, our tour guide, is very knowledgeable about the history of the city and she gave us so much information about Mazatlan’s food delicacies. The food tour was quite an adventure, and it was very different from other tours we’ve had. Maaike made sure every second of the tour counted! The food from the stalls in the Mercado we tried was different from the ones you get at a Mexican restaurant, but they were all delicious and had so much flavor. (1)The first one we ate was the Tamales. I got the one with corn. My husband got one with Camarones. We usually don’t get excited with Tamales until we tried ours during this tour. The corn tamales was very delicious. It’s not too sweet, which I like.(2) We also got to taste different cheeses which all taste good. My favorite one was the chihuahua cheese! (3) The smoked marlin was also good. I never had one before. I wished I had a beer in hand during this tour. Lol (4) The tostadas were our favorite! My husband finished his whole plate (he usually doesn’t) which says a lot about how delicious it is. (5) We alsl tried the fruit drinks or also called escamocha. I got the guava, and my husband got the horchata. Both taste very refreshing -- perfect for the hot weather! (6) We got to try torta de pierna, which was made of braised pork shank inside a special bread called Telera. It is bounty and delicious. It reminded me of a grilled cheese sandwich but 5x better because of the flavorful pork! (7) Last stop was Mexican ice cream. My husband got the blackberry cheesecake ice cream. We also got a chance to try a little bit of everything, but the one that I like the most is the Mazapan ice cream. Thinking that this flavor does not exist where I’m from already makes me want to cry. Overall, our experience was way beyond our expectations! We are glad we got to try local food. Don’t be scared to explore more of the city’s market and street food when you visit Mazatlan; Maaike knows where to take you, and it is WORTH IT! We will surely book from The Flavor Teller the next time we go to Mazatlan.

It was such an amazing experience! Maaike is absolutely wonderful. She’s a knowledge cove of everything Mazatlan, from its history to culture to food. Plus she gives you tips on how to order food like the locals. We were happily full and more knowledgeable about Mazatlan after the tour. Thank you for such a great day, Maaike!
