My family and I took a taxi from the Barcelo resort to El Centro thinking it would be filled with tourist shops and restaurants. Perhaps we missed something but to our surprise, it was more of a place for locals. In the streets where we strolled, we were perhaps the only foreigners. There were some souvenir shops but not as... We spent a couple of hours wandering through the shops, then sat and had a cerveza and people-watched for a bit. Had to take a pic of the giant sailfish, of course, and then hopped on a bus back to our condo. The ride itself is an experience - you get to see some of the real town!

We took a cab downtown to check this area out. It didn't cost much to get there and we enjoyed walking through the shops without harassment. What a difference from 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen. We found everything we needed there and then some.

Some great photo opportunities at Centro. Store keepers are friendly and not pushy. We like to just park (there is a multi level car park) and walk around. Lots of taco, ice cream places but not many spots for a bite and a beer.

Not worth the time to visit. MZO is the largest port in Mexico. El Centro has a large plaza with less than scenic views of the bay and mostly ship and terminal traffic. The market area about 4 block away is quaint with crowded stalls and lots of locals who make this a daily shopping experience. We stayed 2 weeks... More

We walked around the shopping area and had some refreshments at one of the little restaurants to get away from the resort and see what Old Manzanillo was like. From a tourists perspective you can get a better feel of the area by heading out into their environment and also contribute somewhat into their economy.

You can't go to Manzanillo without seeing the big blue sailfish in the town center. It's HUGE!! And across the way are shops and ice cream places. It's a nice morning activity.

Yes a nice place to go shopping, but the pigeons to me were just horrible but I'm a farmer and consider them flying rats. On the up side there is a place that is just crawling with lizards its a must see ask your taxi driver to take you there.
