First, Arturo is extremely reliable! We have trusted him to safe guide and transport us for many years. I contract him from the US with my Flight Info and Arturo is there. Further, he is fluent in English and always willing to help. Arturo is also extremely knowledgeable tour guide and he LOVES it. For example, even when he is picking us up from the Airport and taking us to the Hotel, (or vice versa), he cannot help but to share some knowledge about a plant or a building. And last. He owns the SUPER pristine, brand new Suburban. I have to say, it VERY comfortable......And his pricing is always fair. I highly recommend him.

Thank you to Arturo Martinez for driving the four of us from Oaxaca City to Huatulco yesterday! The roads were not brutal as mentioned in some comments. The trip was so much better than what I expected. We passed through many small towns. Yes, it’s a long trip of 6 hours and yes, it involves driving through the mountains with switchbacks. But the scenery was spectacular and Arturo’s driving was great. I am normally one to get car sick but I took 2 low-drowsy Dramamine before leaving and never felt nauseous or even tired.
We stopped for breaks whenever needed and had lunch at a beautiful mountain top restaurant. Arturo took us to Pluma Hildalgo where we enjoyed some wonderful coffee and we also made a stop to purchase some mezcal.

If you want to see the real Huatulco and get to know Mexico, I recommend travelling with Arturo. He goes far above and beyond any tour guide or driver - allowing us to fill a whim by stopping for el pastor and getting us to COVID testing when our hotel system failed.

We first travelled from Oaxaca City to Huatulco. It's where we learned, he is incredibly punctual (incidentally I am not, so I also learned he is incredibly patient). Oaxaca is a big and busy city, but with Arturo behind the wheel of his comfortable SUV we felt safe and taken care of – and we were incredible grateful for his driving through the twisty mountain passes separating the valley from the beach.

He drove for us nearly every day and made suggestions for things to do and see. He took us to see a community eco-tourism project, where they use tourism dollars to repair mangroves and protect sea turtles (and was both a translator and wealth of information); he set up with a colleague to take us out by boat to see the Bays of Huatulco (and dropped us off and made the introductions).

He also knows where to eat – and what to get!

We cannot say enough good things about Arturo – he is kind, helpful, patient, and happy to share his world with travellers and tourists.

Arturo met us at the airport in Huatulco and drove us to our hotel in Santa Cruz. Along the way he provided us with a lot of information regarding the area. Later in the week he picked us up at our hotel for a trip to a rural school project east of Huatulco again providing us with all sorts of information. Our third trip with Arturo was to the town of Pluma Hidalgo high up in the mountains to visit a coffee plantation. We really appreciated everything Arturo did for us and would highly recommend the use of his services while in Huatulco. Felt very safe with him behind the wheel. He is a very knowledgeable guide who has an excellent speaking voice in English as well as Spanish.

My husband and I were picked up by Arturo in his Surburban at our hotel in La Crucecita for a backroad day trip out to Bahia de San Agustin and Playa Riscalillo.
Arturo was available prior to our trip for communication and planning.
Arturo swung us by the over look in Santa Cruz bay to get a panoramic view, educated us on the history of the people in the area and provided historical pictures of the Santa Cruz bay prior to the Marina being built.
The backroads to San Agustin were a breeze and an enjoyable ride in his full size SUV. We saw ranches animals papaya pineapple mango and coconut groves.
We spent the day at Casa de Abuelo which areas a large palapa that offer large dining area, hammocks, beach lounge chairs, and plenty of shade. Food was great we at lunch with and order of mixto ceviche and split a frito pescado with the all fixings. I spoiled myself to a couple pina coladas that we delightful and enjoyed fine conversation with National from Puebla.
We snorkeled the reef and it was beautiful. The sand is very deep on this beach to walk in. But the outstanding grandeur of this bay made trekking the sands worth the work out! We arrived early at 10 am and played in the waters alone for quite some time. There were baby jellyfish in the shore break line where the waves would crash they didn’t bother us until a little larger one wanted to swipe my for arm little burn to let me know. Apply sand to the spot and never had a problem at all. And continued to swim all day. Prices we slightly more expensive as they ought to be in this more remote location compared to the other bays but only slightly.
We were ready to check out Playa Riscalillo around 4 pm. This bay was tranquilo with a small lagoon area. The movement of the water at low tide over the coral was full of energy. It was truly a magical area.
Thank- you so much Senor Arturo Martinez for a wonderful day and sharing your great knowledge and engaging conversation Brent and Melissa from Michigan enjoyed ourselves completely and cannot wait until trip back to Bahias de Huatulco and another adventure with you again. Gracias!

We arrived in Huatulco with our own boat and Arturo became more than a tour guide for us. He was our liaison for navigating many situations that would be difficult for us because we don’t speak Spanish. He picked up our friends at the airport, he took us to the grocery store and recommended many items. He drove us to the harbormaster’s office in Santa Cruz and helped us with our entry and exit papers necessary to legally transit Mexican waters. He stood guard by us while we used the ATMs. All this plus wonderful tours to the coffee plantation, the flower house, the Monday Market and shopping at artisan shops in downtown Hualtuco. He enjoyed helping us with Spanish, for which we were grateful.
Arturo is thorough, knowledgeable, kind, and dependable. He made our visit comfortable. We will hire him again when we return.

Having traveled all over Mexico and the Caribbean, there always seems to be that one local tour guide whose name tops the reviews and listings for that area. For Huatulco, that name is Arturo Martinez. We used his services for our airport transfers and for an afternoon tour of the local area. Here's what my wife and I value in a tour guide -- good communication (his English is excellent), reliability (on-time and responds quickly to email), flexibility (he crafted our town tour around a public event that had shut down some major roads), knowledgeable (interesting how the area around Huatulco has developed), and a love for his home. Arturo was excellent on every one of those traits. For the airport transfer, I know it is cheaper to use the regular taxis, but after a day of airports, customs, and planes, it is a nice splurge to know someone is waiting at the airport arrival with your name (and a welcome smile.) And the city tour was a relaxing immersion of information on the picturesque Huatulco highlights and a stroll around the city square with someone who knows the ins-and-outs of the city. I would highly recommend using his services.

Arturo is more like having a knowledgeable local friend and guide at the ready. This was our second time working with Arturo and he is awesome ! We arranged to hire Arturo for every day of our 7 day stay and it was wonderful to have a local friend, he drives a nice big suburban truck with plenty of space, and will stay with you the whole day, which is perfect.

Our trip was 2 couples staying for a week of snorkeling and we asked Arturo to help us create some extra interest. Arturo took us on 9 snorkel trips at La Entrega, San Augustin, Violin and Arrocita. We booked him for a day tour to Plumas Hildago for the coffee tour and a walk about the mountain town. We traveled with him to the turtle sanctuary at Escobillo. On our previous tour, Arturo took us to the Crocodile Sanctuary tour.

On one occasion, Arturo went above and beyond and came to find us at the farmers market (he told us about) to say that the turtles at the Escobillo sanctuary we very active and we if we wanted to go and it was a once in a life time experience that we are so thankful he took the time to make this happen for us.

Arturo was great to work with on the planning before the trip, very responsive on WhatsApp and recommend things we might want to do. He was great for the airport pick up, took us to the market and off to our condo. He was quite helpful when we had a bit of a snafu at the condo we rented, and really saved the day for us!

What is exceptional about Arturo is he is very knowledgeable about Huatulco and the entire Oaxaca state and region, he clearly loves his work. We think of Arturo fondly, consider him a friend and highly recommend him !

Really enjoyed the tour. Arturo is extremely knowledgeable about the region and takes his time to explain everything. The coffee plantation he took us to was really cool and also produced cocoa. We where shown how both raw coffee and raw cocoa are processed and made into there final product. The City tour is a nice 3-4 hour tour that culminates in some great street tacos. If you want a well informed private tour guide that speaks fluent English he is your man!!!!!
