As fulltime cruisers we have an opportunity to visit many marinas and Puerto Escondido is among the best we have experienced in Mexico. The office staff is very nice, very accommodating and speak good English. They can arrange just about anything you ask for including cabs, rental cars, shipping, etc. all you have to do is ask. The management team, including the owners, are very approachable and open to taking feedback to make improvements. The dock staff is also very nice, helpful with docking, delivery of packages and answering questions you may have. The internet is EXCELLENT, offering both wired and wireless service at the dock and wireless near the buildings. Telcel mobile service is available and best near the offices, others carriers work as well. The facility has quite a bit to offer and is maintained in excellent condition as well as very clean. Showers, self service laundry, pool, spa, excellent hiking, a great restaurant offering local live entertainment and a well stocked market. There are charter services such as fishing as well as rental equipment if you need that as well. You are about 25km for Loreto and about an 1 hour from Mission San Javier. By sea you are central located in the center of Loreto National Marina Park access to great anchorages, fishing, day sailing, diving, snorkeling, etc. We love it here having spent the initial COVID lockdown in March of 2020 and returning again in 2021 to spend the hurricane season.

We cannot say enough about the staff of MPE and our experiences thus far. We arrived on January 1, 2020 with a reservation for a month. A year and a half later, It’s now become our “home base” as we so love the immediate access to incredible anchorages on the neighboring islands, the awe-inspiring views from our slip when in port, the five-star service we receive from all of the staff and the closeness to Loreto “Pueblo Magico”, a very special coastal town on the Sea of Cortez. We’ve had many boater friends join us in MPE and after departing for cruising along mainland Mexico, or back to the shores of the U.S., they return, time and again…. And have dubbed our special marina “Hotel California”. “You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave”. Why would you?

We have been traveling up at down the west coast for many years. We have found one of our favorites. A beautiful natural protected bay with a marina, fuel dock, store, shipyard and travel lift. Javier and his team accommodate all your boating and traveling needs. Truly first class. Always looking forward to our next season based out of Puerto Escondido, Loreto.

Went to the restaurant upstairs and ordered “wood fired” pizzas only to be served a nearly raw pizza made in a propane oven. We asked and the guy said they can’t keep enough wood to make it wood fired. So why keep the name? Nearly $20usd (at an excellent exchange rate) for a tiny pizza with that was not not even cooked all the way through. Not sure if they don’t use yeast in the crust or it it was just too raw to rise but if that’s how they serve the simplest thing on the menu I definitely do not recommend anything else that they make. Save your money and go into town for much better food at much more reasonable prices.

The marina itself is very well maintained and has a ‘high end’ feel about it. The food in the restaurant is excellent. WiFi is the best we have had in any marina in the Sea of Cortez. Although there are only two showers per sex I was fortunate in my timings and didn’t have to wait to use the facilities which were spotlessly clean and even had complimentary shower gel etc.
The downside was we were given a dock which was in reality too small for our boat and because of the construction of the docks and their load bearing abilities everyone is expected to moor stern to. We set up extra mooring lines, due to the docks being too short to tie up any other way, in order to prevent our bow from damaging the vessel on our port side during the breeze. It was rather tiresome when we came back to the boat on two occasions to find these had been removed by the marina staff.
Although we would re-visit we would rather be on the hook in the lagoon rather than have the stress and worry of trying to manoeuvre into such a tight space in a yacht with a full keel which doesn’t steer well in reverse.

I was with a group of photographers and we took a boat trip out of this marina. It is very upscale with many high-end yachts moored there. Facilities are modern and clean and you would think you were in any high-end US marina.

The Marina in Bahia Escondido is excellent. Great service, quiet, with a fuel dock, small store, and a restaurant. Beautiful place. Can't wait to go back!
