Go here! Great beach! Amazing water color and you can see down to your feet. Clean sand and water floor. No seaweed or jelly fish. Warm too. The palapas are perfect, the restaurant serves food to you on the beach all reasonably priced. Right now, they are only letting in a certain amount of people at a time. But as one car leaves, another gets to go in.

This beach is BEAUTIFUL. White sand, crystal clear water. I live in La Paz, and this was my first trip here. Not crowded at all. We grabbed a table right by the water, had a couple of drinks, nachos and tortilla soup. Drinks good, food not so much. There’s a lady who gives massages, 400 pesos ($20) for 30 minutes, 700 pesos ($35) for an hour. She’s there every day but Sunday, and not on really windy days. Some vendors are there, but they are so non-aggressive. Bathrooms available for 15 pesos, not the best but better than nothing. Next trip will be with our own chairs, drinks and snacks. A great place to spend an afternoon!

This is an off the beaten path toes in the sand restaurant and beach bar. There are three along one stretch of beach. A Very quiet place, but great service and views of the ocean are gorgeous. The wind was really blowing when we were three, so we had a table set up behind the restaurant on the parking lot side to keep out of the wind. They have great ceviche and home made pico de Guillo . I enjoyed my margarita. There is no cell service, so I recommend pre arranging return transportation before you arrive. We got a cab in la Paz who took is there and back and waited for us while we ate. Good deal and pricing. If it is windy, the water gets wind blown so , for me, not inviting to swim, but on a calm day, it would be awesome.

Cheap bus from the bus terminal at the Malecon takes you to Tecolote beach (stopping at other beaches on the way). A choice of bars there and toilets available. It's a nice beach and uncrowded. Was told its windy but it was fine when I was there.

Ok, it's a nice enough beach with limited facilities. Be sure and bring you're own umbrellas, chairs, towels etc. You can drive the back of the beach until you find a spot you like. It's a bit rocky in spots, but the water is very clear and if you're prepared you can have a nice day here.

Beautiful beach! It is next to Balandra, so it is a great option if Balandra is full and you can’t enter there. The views are great! There are some restaurants, but the area near them is really crowded. You can also bring your cooler and towels and sit far from the crowd. It is windy and even chilly during winter time, but a hoody is enough.

We had hoped to go to Balandra beach but it was full for the day as they were only letting limited people. So we decided to go to the next beach up, Tecolote. We were so glad we did! It was amazing. We were glad we were not able to get into balandra as our day here was the best one on our vacation. Love it.

I find this to be another overrated beach. It's really a fishing village. VERY basic in its services so don't expect much. Pretty isolated just past Balandra. Nice enough beach and swimable waters.

A little drive from LaPaz, but worth it. Lots of road work too. Beautiful beach, nice and long to walk. With beautiful shells. A little further then Balandra beach. They have little restaurants and bars on the beach. Both paradise beaches to see.

We were supposed to be at the beach next to Balendro but weren’t allowed in with the tour. This beach really wasn’t a wow factor. You pull up and there is a tiny amount of sand to sit on. Flies everywhere. There are huge eels in the water.

Hi Anna,
I'm heading to La Paz this week and am looking for safe places to pitch my tent. Is El Tecolote Beach open for tents or is it an RV hangout?

Playa El Tecolote is popular with both RV's and tenters. It is safe as the campers and RVers tend to camp in close proximity to each other. It can get breezy on the beach but is beautiful. There are 4 restaurants on the beach with great seafood and cold beer and the best Margaritas you will ever find. If you have questions when you arrive, you will find be a Palapa Azul Bar Tropical everyday from 2pm on. Just ask for Gary!

Hello,
I read your post and you mentioned beautiful mountains and valleys. Can you recommend any hikes, mountain bike rides or any other things to do in the mountains? Thanks, Carmen

If there a hotel on the beach or close by (not La Paz). Thanks.

No, there is no hotel nearby, other than going back towards La Paz to the Pichilingue harbor area or the Marina near Costa Baja. It is a 20 minute cab ride to a hotel, back towards La Paz.

Quanto vale una cerveza?? E un almuerzo?

Non ricordo esattamente, ma ricordo che rispetto a prezzi italiani il valore è ridicolo. Mi pare una cerveza sia circa 1 euro.
How to get to the beach from la Paz using bus transportation
DOOBIE CENTRAL
Nanaimo, Canada1 contribution
There is a city bus that runs to Pichilingue, Balandra + Tecolote Beaches. The bus runs every 60-90 minutes during the day to/from the La Paz bus station, located downtown on the malecon, making lots of stops along the way. I have included 2 google streetview links, so you can see the bus and what it looks like. I came here looking for info as to the actual fare for this bus, as I no longer remember how much it costs to ride (with no luck of course). I tried to include a weblink so you can see the bus itself, but this forum will not allow that. Instead, go to google maps, then type in tecolote beach. Once you find the beach, go to street view, and you will see the bus turning around at the beach (of all coincidences).
