My husband and I came to Statia for the history and the diving. On our first day, as we approached Scubaqua Dive Center, Mitch greeted us heartily, "You must be Bill and Susie." Immediately, we felt welcomed! Our diving history has primarily been shore diving due to my motion sickness. But, now, it was time to test the waters. Pre-medicated with Meclizine, I was ready and excited to board the Green Flash. However, much to my dismay, the sea claimed victory over the Meclizine. I was able to complete the first dive, thanks to Noortje, buts was in no shape to continue. Somehow, I was taken back to the dive center, where Marieke brought me a Coke, removed my booties and walked me to my hotel room. I was bound and determined to forge ahead. The dive staff were also bound and determined to deliver a positive dive experience for me. On the boat, I was positioned to be the first one in and the last one out. I had my personal puke bucket and I believe that the surface intervals back at the dive shop, were for my benefit. The consideration for my needs was shown in their words, actions and smiling faces; all good natured, matter of fact, without drawing much attention. In general, the dive staff were absolutely amazing! They called the divers by name. The dive briefs were detailed with history, education, humor and excitement. They are a cohesive team. Knowledgeable, positive and fun. In specific: Marieke listened to our desire and anxiety for the night dive, and arranged it in such a way to ease our anxiety. I will fondly remember Mitch with his encouraging words: "Hang in there, Susie". And, when my weight pouch was pulled out by the tag line, Mitch jumped in to retrieve it from the bottom. After the dive I was apologetic. His response, " Susie, THANK YOU, I haven't seen that part of the ocean before!' Laurent with his ever smiling face and calm demeanor shared his enthusiasm for diving and providing a wonderful experience for all of us. Maikel and Colinda, (not only showed their love for each other), but, they showed their love for the underwater world. One would have thought that their excitement in pointing out marine life, was for the first time. And, a side note: One night, Bill and I ordered too much food from Cool Corner. We packed up leftovers, not quite knowing how to reheat the meal. Well, Maikel took care of us. He provided 'plates' and heated the meal in the microwave at the dive shop. Noortje has genuine compassion and care. She is a great 'listener' and gives a bona fide hug! And, Mike, with his fond appreciation of Statia; the people, the culture, the history and it's underwater treasure, is simply joyful to share the island with guests. The entire staff is TOP NOTCH. Always going the extra mile. Their intent and attention to provide whatever means necessary in order to ensure a favorable and wonderful experience for each diver. During the flight home, I was reflecting on all that has transpired in the world over the past two years. For one week in our lives, the dive staff, led by Mike and Marieka provided respite, as we engaged in the quiet and beauty of the underwater world under the care and safety of a phenomenal team! And, P. S. my motion sickness did lessen over the course of the week. The moral of the story : Have bucket, will dive.....and dive with Scubaqua!! Many thanks, Bill and Susie

I am a regular diver and have worked with dive shops throughout the Carribean. We usually make it a point to never go to the same place more than once but this place is the one clear exception. I can't think of a better dive operation than Scubaqua Dive Center. The owners have created a culture of doing whatever is needed to help not only the dives themselves, but also your stay on the island. Need help with transportation, they can help. Need help with making travel plans, no worries. Want information regarding some of the parks on the island, not a problem. Want to learn more about the AMAZING history of the island, they've got it covered. On one trip we had a new diver that had a lot of anxiety to the point where she usually didn't dive with the group and let her husband dive with others in the group instead. The owners made a special point of taking her out for a shore dive behind the shop (most of the dives are square profile and only accessible by boat). They took her out at her own pace and made sure she had all the support she could want to help feel more comfortable. The island itself is loaded with history and there is a very special feeling when you are walking past the ruins of old warehouses from the 17-18th centuries. The dive shop itself is actually in the same building as the former world headquarters of the West India Trading Company! The island is quite small without a lot to do other than dive and explore the parks but the people are very friendly and welcoming. This is one of the few unspoiled Carribean Islands that don't have the marks of a heavy tourism and you get a very different feel than if you went to a resort location. Amazing food as well! We have been here several times and we will continue to go back. The owners are just that good!

This was our third trip to Statia to dive with Scubaqua. I cannot say enough wonderful things abut Mike and Marieke, and their lovely team (Noortje, Maikel, Colinda, Seth, Mitch, and Laurent lead us this time). We had a group of 11 from Ohio, USA. The diving is absolutely top-notch (turtles, always turtles, in Statia!), and the dive masters are so kind and helpful. No matter what the conditions, we have always felt safe and comfortable with Scubaqua. We will return again and again, and we will bring our young son here without hesitation as soon as he is certified. The staff clearly know all their dive sites extremely well, and they know how to handle all types of conditions (current/no current). Also, one perk is you are not limited in time by anything except your personal air consumption--if you want to stay down, they let you stay down (and a dive master is with you). They also know how to joke around and they make everything fun. The Chien Tong night dive is a MUST. I won't spoil it by saying more...just do it. Diving in Statia with Scubaqua is a MUST if you are a diver. Do it--book this trip; you will not regret it, and you will want to come back. Thank you, Scubaqua family, for another wonderful trip. We will be back soon!

Scubaqua Dive Center is top notch! The location is perfect, and the marine life around Statia is remarkable. The crew is fun, friendly, organized and professional. We were seeking to find an island off the regular beat for our second honeymoon, and from the first phone call Marieke, at Scubaqua, helped us to find just what we wanted in terms of a place to stay, places to dine and of course the best dive sites. Our Dive week with Scubaqua created memories for us that we will cherish always. I HIGHLY recommend Scubaqua for any level dive adventure. We may even bring our family here to get them certified... such a friendly relaxed team and environment. The crew's priority is to make sure you are having the best time possible. We certainly did! Thank you Scubaqua!!!!
