We walked from our hotel to Nopp
Beach on Saturday morning. A few
locals had already arrived whilst others had left their piles of food in
various places, perhaps to mark
their place. We walked across a
red bridge to get here from Apasari Hotel, so if you see it you will know that you're on the right track. There's shops & restaurants opposite, so you can stop, shop, & snack. Also there's a public toilet just across the road, you will need 5 baht to use it. We hadn't got one & were trying to use a 10 baht coin but it doesn't work. Prince charming popped up from nowhere & scanned us through with his card. Thanks to that lovely man! It was early & quiet when we went, I should imagine it would be a bit more lively if there were more locals around. Whatever, it's always worth a visit as you never know what you may find, & what else are holidays for if not for exploring?

We did visit and spend some time at this beach on a number of occasions during our recent stay in Ao Nang in January.
We walked to the beach which was a distance of about three and a half kilometres from our Hotel, BlueSotel Smart.
This beach is definitely less commercialised and quieter than its neighbour, Ao Nang Beach. There was a distinct lack of tourists here during the day.
It stretches along the coast for about three kilometres and comprises of a mixture of white sand and small seashells which creates patches in the sand that looks pink.
It has three small island at one end Ko Liao, Ko Khao Sam Nuai, no name for the third one. At the other end the Do Do River (Haeng) flows into the sea.
The water's of the Andaman Sea are very shallow here, walk into the a good distance and still only knee deep.
At low tide the long-tailed boats, at the far end of the beach, get stranded on the sand until the tide comes back.
There are no facilities on the beach, no sunbeds or umbrellas, the only shade provided is by the trees that are along the back of the beach.
We did spend a good number of hours on our beach towels in the shade provided by the trees.
Along the main street at the back of the beach is the Ao Nang Landmark Night Market. There are also a number of shops and food outlets were supplies can be bought for visiting the beach.
Sadly a lot of litter, food cartons and drink related, gets dropped during the evening then makes it's way on to the beach. It would appear that the beach wall is used as seating and a table and the cartons dropped. As this beach is less commercialised beach cleaners are very infrequent visitors, also the tide does come in rather close to shore and washes it away.
As the tide does come in rather close there is a coastal defence system comprising of stones and rocks fasten by wire which is along the beach wall. Not really attractive but necessary.

This is a relaxing beach that stretches from the edge of town out to the ferry port. There isn’t lots going on on the beach itself but it is still good for a visit.
We used to go for long walks on and it is beautiful indeed. The sea is very clean, the beach has great sand and the views are wonderful.
It is just metres from the road so you can always stop off for a bite to eat or to buy provisions. There are also benches along the way should you need to get some shade or take a rest.

Beautiful long beach, shallow water , suitable for children. The water is clear and warm. The safety of people is partly granted by watch guards towers. The hotels and restaurants are close to the beach.

A long stretch of sand just a five minute tuk tuk or a 25 min stroll in cooler weather along well kept pavement from Ao Nang. Check the tide if you are swimming, if it is out, it is WAAAAY out! A good excuse to go for lunch at either end of the beach...The big seafood restaurant near the long boat inlet at Ao Nang end is fab...has good english menu now and staff are very well trained. At the far end, near the ferry jetty and national park headquarters is Nopparat Kitchen, look for the tiny twin sisters serving! Choose your victim from the iceboxes and enjoy, very thai, very popular. Laze under the trees after lunch with the locals on day trips, count how many family members can fit into an Isuzu utility and look for murex shells in the sand..please don't take them home tho, it is a national park. The beach has a good paved track right along it if you fancy a sunset jog, and another great restaurant is at Blue Bayou in the middle..very popular with locals and the best vegetarian choices we have seen in the area.
Juice bars, internet cafes and massage are dotted along the road if you need to retreat from the sun, local 'buses' pass regularly and shout out their destination....all together a nice day out and a change from Ao Nang or Klong Muang if you are staying at either of these. Enjoy!

At low tide, it's fun to watch the baby crabs and hermits. A safe beach for swimming , no long shore drift and you have to go way out to be out of your depth. Stay away from the river exit though. In High season there are a few beach cafes.Low take some water, but there are plenty of cafes and hotel bars behind the beach. beautiful sunset swims her, and less longtail boat traffic to watch for.

This is the beach the locals go to - since it does not have the boat traffic of AoNang beach. Very child friendly since you have to walk out a bit before it gets deep. But i recommend swimming shoes

If you go to Ao Nang beach you will see that its filled with long tail boats and looks not so inviting- but if you walk 15 minutes along the beach road (to the right if you are looking towards the sea) you pass a bridge and on that side you find Noppharatara beach - wick is where all toe locals go. The further to the right you go ( closer to Noppharatara Pier) the better the beach gets.
Personally I prefer to jump on a long tail boat and go to Poda Island ( 15 minutes by boat) and enjoy the beach there

Most go to Aonang town expecting great beaches, but will be sorely disappointed. The beaches in Krabi are excellent , no doubt about it. But those beaches you seen in travel brochures or websites are at least an hour away by long tailed boats or half an hour by modern sleek speed boats.
So why do I rate this beach as very good ??? Hope my pics lets you have a better idea. Noppharathara Beach is a shallow plateau sand bank that stretches out hundred of meters out to sea. At low tide, you see many long tailed boats moored about a hundred or more meter out on the beach to let passengers going to and from the outer islands like Railay Island embark and disembark. It is a great venue for sunset photography which are spectacular and different daily.
Really a great pic venue...and a gateway to the outer islands.
