I have never waited this anxiously to review one of the disastrous time spent at this place. As always trip advisor dictates my first choice in choosing any place. The same applied for finding a good massage place, as per the brilliant reviewes written by others we chose to give this a try. However, call it fate, bad luck or let's keep it real : the extremely poor staff behaviour both from the front desk till the masseuse is why I would consider the overall experience POOR.
Pros: Ambience, Cleanliness. That's it.
If this is what is the need then there a million other places that you could choose.
Cons:
The concept of hospitality is not understood. Looks like all the positive reviews received from the rest of the people here on trip advisor has made the staff at this place rude and lack any basic skill set on how to deal with customers. It starts from the receptionist who I must say lacks all the basic skills to be in any hospitality industry. Absolutely unresponsive and haughty.
We went for the after beach 1 hr massage. Trust me when I say this you could apply it yourself and save the disappointment you will receive and ofcourse save also the money that could be well used else where. Poor pressure, poor attention to detail.
The masseuse end up speaking to each other during the massage, as irritating as this can be I shall ignore this as it happened twice and I would want to consider this is not normal. They do have a board that says we need to let them know when this happens and actions would be taken. I will see what the owners of this place have to say when they read this review. Do they really mean it or is it just another paper exercise?.
There are plenty of other places nearby that do a better job in understanding the meaning of hospitality and customer service and not allow ratings on trip advisor to get to their heads.
If you are around this area do give it a miss and save yourself from a dissappointing experience. The place can do better if the people working there develop better work ethics, and understand what hospitality and humility truly means. To work in a service industry, customer satisfaction is the ultimate objective. Once this is achieved the next step is even more important and challenging which is to maintain it. This is exactly where this establishment fails and it fails miserably.

"I will see that this hype is brought down." - the exact words from the reviewer's mouth as he threatened our receptionist when he came up for tea after his massage. I knew because I was there observing the commotion quietly.
The reviewer and his girlfriend/wife are an Indian couple who first visited us on the night of 16 Dec 2016 to make a booking for the next day on 17 Dec 2016 at 9PM. From the registration information given, we understood that they were staying at Sofitel Krabi and have heard about Aonang Haven from TripAdvisor and the internet.
At the time of booking, it was the reviewer who came in to speak with our receptionist as his girlfriend/wife do not want to remove her shoes. Instead, they took the menu outside to have a discussion before coming to a decision. The reviewer had originally intended on having the Stress Relief Coconut Oil Massage and had question our receptionist about the massage several times. Based on his requirement, it was recommended that he should consider the Traditional Thai or Sore Relief Back and Shoulders Massage if he prefer a massage technique with stronger pressure. When he insisted on having the Stress Relief Coconut Oil Massage, our receptionist once again tried her best by advising that he could also consider a male therapist if he wanted a strong massage, but he refused. After making payment for the booking, the reviewer and his girlfriend/wife left but came back a few minutes later to change their booking to the TriCare After-Beach Massage instead.
On the day of their appointment, they arrived late even though they were reminded to come in 5 minutes before time. It was also observed that they were wet and sandy. I mention this because by etiquette, we should always be clean when going for a massage. This is to show respect to the massage therapist who would be servicing you.
The reviewer mentioned that our therapists talk to each other twice during massage. This is true, they did speak softly with each other in Thai but only at the first stage of the massage. To put it honestly, they were lamenting about the poor hygiene of the reviewer. They however did not have a conversation during the hour long massage. It is standard operating procedure as we aim to give our guests the best possible environment for a relaxing massage. The reviews that we have garnered over the years can testify for our professional standards.
After the completion of the session, it was also the duty of the therapists to clean up the massage area as well as the washroom. When the reviewer made a mess of the washroom, the therapist who attended to him spoke out that he should not have done what he did as it is unhygienic and in the perspective of Thai culture, disrespectful. After this incident, the reviewer came up to the reception area, threw down his belongings forcefully, drank his tea, and requested to see the registration form that he had sign. On the top of the registration form is a set of spa etiquette and process for our guests to follow in order to enjoy a relaxing massage. I have copied it below as a reference:
"As our valued guest, we aim to give you a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, therefore, do kindly read and acknowledge the following spa etiquette and process for a better understanding on how to enjoy your massage treatment.
Spa Etiquette: (1) Switch off all your mobile devices. (2) Keep silent during the massage so as to focus on relaxation. (3) Do inform our receptionist/therapists of any notable medical condition.
Our Process: (1) Start with a warm aromatic herbal foot bath to improve blood circulation. (2) Kindly respect our therapists and follow the steps and procedure instructed by them. (3) We recommend closing your eyes and listen to the soft background music. (4) Complete the healing process with a cup of aromatic thai herbal tea."
Generally speaking, the above mentioned are common sense but they are required as a reminder for guests who may be unfamiliar or are having a massage for the first time in Thailand since they are so affordable, which is to say that since a massage is so common throughout Thailand, they are sometimes taken for granted.
After re-reading what was expected from a guests for a massage, the reviewer started interrogating our receptionist in an aggressive manner about being told off by his therapist regarding his washroom behavior. Seeing that the reviewer was agitated, she was instructed discreetly to remain silent and not to respond to the reviewer's threat lest it leads to unnecessary tension and possible violence. Several minutes later, he calmed down and left.
As to the claims of the reviewer for us to have better work ethics, hospitality and humility, we do agree that these are areas that we can always work to improve on. After all, we started like any other massage shop in the area but have always strive to be "The Best Place in Aonang to Rest.Relax.Rejuvenate." What we are today in terms of physical environment and service standards could not have been achieved without great efforts.
But at the end, the reviewer wrote "To work in a service industry, customer satisfaction is the ultimate objective. Once this is achieved the next step is even more important and challenging which is to maintain it. This is exactly where this establishment fails and it fails miserably".
Let's just put it this way, a customer is satisfied when his/her expectation is met. A customer is delighted when his/her expectation is exceeded. We are happy to know that we are able to satisfy or delight many of our guests who also took time to leave reviews for us. For this we are most appreciative as they serve as great encouragement. Sometimes, there would be disappointed customers if their expectation were not met. We understand that this is unavoidable as it is not possible to please everyone. It is not our aim to cause grievances to our guests either. However, if a customer is incapable of being sensible or is acting in a disrespectful manner, it is well within our rights as a human-being to act indifferently. Being a good person precede being a customer seeking the ultimate satisfaction. We hope the reviewer find experiences elsewhere that better befit him.

The Guy Andy [--], front desk reception or owner I don't care about, but his service is really suck.
We reach the place 45 mins before our appointment, and we told the guy that if the masseur can start earlier, I don't mind to wait for a while, he said" u are not allow to wait here", what is the service he gave to his customer, my friends talk to me in Mandarin that why we can't sit here? We won't disturb any one and just wait for our turn, then we walk out from the shop. The guy walk out and told us he understand what we talking about, then my friends ask him again the same question, he still said you are not ALLOW to sit here again with very rude sound.
I never go there again and this really a suck ppl.

We do not appreciate your review. Nobody was rude to you. Perhaps you should reflect on your bad attitude? The world do not revolve just around you. You were 45 minutes early for your appointment while we are all busy going about our business as usual. You were simply told "Sorry, you are not allowed to wait here." If our service was bad, then why did you book with us on 29 Jan and booked again on 30 Jan at 5pm and even came in the afternoon to request to add a facial treatment which we said was not possible due to our full schedule for the day? If you are not happy with the fact that we can understand your poor remarks about us in mandarin that you had with your friend with the intention to write something bad about us just because we do not give you what you want then congratulations because you have succeeded. TripAdvisor is an avenue for writing reviews but some people just want to use it to vent their displeasure just because they can. Thank you for making the world a little worse. I am sure nobody with dignity would appreciate it.

Went there specifically due to trip advisor reviews. At first, it does look better than most spas, and it is quiet, no masseuses talking to each other in Thai.
BUT... For the extra price, I didn't get any better massage, in fact, lower quality than most others I've been to in Thailand. Maybe I was unlucky with the male masseuse, but at most stages it felt rushed, robotic and like someone was simply rubbing aloe vera rather than massaging. Disappointing for the price. At no point in the massage I felt that good relaxing massage feeling. My partner had better luck with her masseuse. I wouldn't go back nor recommend.
Unless you want to pay extra for the silence and better looking spa.

Thank you for the review. Although your experience with the therapist who attended to you was a disappointing one, we are still glad that you appreciate the ambiance at Aonang Haven which is conducive for a relaxing massage. We have spoken with the therapist concerned to see what he could have done better. To comment on the Aloe Vera Massage, it is a special care cool therapy for sun damaged skin, so it is possible that it may not be the best treatment for your needs. Nonetheless, we apologize for your less than satisfactory experience and hope to welcome you again on another occasion. Our manager on duty would be glad to assist you choose the right treatment.

Visited Aonang Haven Massage due to the good reviews but was disappointed.
The parlour was indeed well-furnished and very classy looking but the quality of the massage leaves much to be desired. I opted for the Moisturizing Milk Cream (1.5 hours) cold therapy but it wasn't relaxing at all and the whole time it felt like someone was just touching my skin but not massaging it.
I visited someplace else thereafter and loved it so much more than Aonang Haven Massage.

Thank you for the review. We are happy to know that you like our classy interior although the Moisturising Milky Cream Cool Therapy was not up to your expectation. From your comments, it appears that you were looking for a massage of stronger intensity but chose a special care massage that is less intense by the application of long gliding strokes and milky cream to moisturise dry skin. We also could not find a matching registration record over the past month so we were unable to make further inquiry into what happened. As we browse your comments for another massage venue that you also reviewed, there was no mention about which type of massage you had with them so we are also unable to comment on the difference in technique and experience. If you are keen to visit us again on your next visit to Ao Nang, we recommend a consultation with our manager on duty regarding which therapy is more suitable for your needs.

Decided to try Haven massage after reading the reviews.
Went in person to place a reservation for the next day and had to pay on the spot when making the reservation (it's non-refundable by the way - I don't think it's a common practice in S.E.A).
I didn't mind paying a premium for Haven (compared to rest of the massage parlours all over Ao Nang) because of the limited time I have in Ao Nang and I needed a good massage.
It's not at the busy area of Ao Nang too; it's quite a distance away. Not recommended if you have to walk.
The place is quiet indeed. Fragrance of oil essence was nice. However the masseur was too light (I requested for her to "be harder" 3 times but she was still very soft).
Didn't feel that she was skillful not did she press on the "correct pressure points". Tried massages from various parts of Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia but this was really disappointing.
I randomly picked a massage parlour outside my hotel on another day (Apple Massage 1) and the masseur was so much more skillful (a lady of around 40 years old). They charged slightly lower fees too.
I wouldn't recommend making the trip to Haven if it's out of your way.

Thank you for the review. It is rare to hear that a guest is disappointed with our massage. As you did not state what massage you had with us, we are unable to comment on the technique used for it. However, as a general guide, the stronger massages are our Traditional Thai and Sore Relief Back & Shoulders because of the technique used to perform them. Any other massages that require an application of oil or cream will be likely performed with less pressure.
At Aonang Haven, we do not perform any hard or strong pressing as these are usually not the correct technique for a massage. An overly exerted pressure can result in external bruising or internal tissue damage. Kindly bear this in mind when choosing a massage. Our goal is for our guests to rejuvenate both the body and mind while on their vacation to Krabi.
To comment on our pricing, we are not really charging a premium if you look carefully at our list of services and the quality of what is offered. Our cost/performance ratio should be attractive.
We can understand those who would like a cheap massage at a less quality environment where bartering is common practice. However, as we create a nice, quiet and relaxing ambiance with quality massages and after treatment Thai herbal tea, we have to set standards to preserve Aonang Haven for our guests who can appreciate the difference that we make.

I'm a little bit of a massage junkie, and I must admit with some shame that I often pick out super cheap, seedy looking joints to get my fix. Whilst some are fine, others are disappointing and even downright horrific. With those experiences in mind, I confidently skipped over the cheaper, seedier looking places and booked a Thai massage at Aonang Haven Massage. This was really easy for me as I was staying there, at the rooms upstairs which was an amazing experience (check out my review on Aonang Haven Guesthouse).
The massage room in the basement had chairs and curtain partitions. It was airconditioned, but not too cold, and the dim lighting made it very welcoming. They had some aromatherapy oils burning I believe, and the beds and sheets were very, very clean. Upon entering, I was directed to the room and given clean clothes to change into. The masseuse then cleaned my feet and washed her hands before starting the massage.
The masseuse proceeded to knead out the knots in my back, and in true thai massage fashion, manipulate my body about to stretch, bend, rub and pop my joints. She did this skilfully and comfortably, so I felt really safe and even fell asleep at times.
I would also like to commend this place for the emphasis on being quiet and maintaining the peace. There is even a sign greeting guests and asking for them to please be quiet. Unlike many other places I've been to, the masseuses here do not speak to each other whilst massaging you. That makes a huge difference, in my opinion. Other guests are also expected to be quiet, so when a couple came in for a foot massage, jabbering away in the chairs near me, I politely told them to respect the silence - and they did.
After my massage, I was served a really nice, herbal tea and floated away feeling fantastic. Aonang Haven is a serious massage place. Make a booking in advance and come on time for your massage. Even though I did say it was slightly pricier than the average, roadside, seedy massage joint, it's still great value!

Thank you for the comprehensive review. Your words perfectly described what Aonang Haven is all about and we appreciate it very much. We are sure future guests would also benefit from your observation.
One thing we would like to add is that in order for Aonang Haven to conserve the peaceful and relaxing environment for our valued guests, it is important to note that as our methods allow only a maximum of 4 guests per session, a reservation (online or walk-in only) is always recommended to avoid disappointment.
Some customers may not see this value but we are OK about it. Our main objective is still to let those who do have the most relaxing and rejuvenating massage experience with us. We know because when we first started out, our capacity was 6 body massages and 5 foot massages at the same time. It used to be a crowd in our limited floor space. Yes, it may allow us to serve more customers especially during the peak evening hours but at the end of the day when we know that our guests had a less than satisfactory experience due to the 'factory-style' like pace which ultimately defeats the purpose of a relaxing massage, we knew we had to change.
There are also many people who mistook us for being aloof just because we may be 'fully booked' most of the time but if one were to do their maths right, it is not difficult to see that we can only receive so many customers each day by keeping to a maximum of only 4 guests per session till we close at 10PM.
Each positive review mean a lot to us as they serve to encourage us in our continuous effort in making Aonang Haven "The Best Place in Aonang to Rest.Relax.Rejuvenate." Thank you so much and we look forward to welcome you again shall you visit Ao Nang in the near future.

I bought the 2 hour scrub and massage package for 1,080 bhat. It seemed absurdly priced considering that I’ve had a dozen epic massages in the last few weeks for 250 Bhat an hour
But I decided maybe this spot was worth it, considering the good reviews. The scrub was actually quite nice, no complaints
But when the hot oil massage part started, it was as if my masseuse had zero training on how to perform such a massage.
She started by rubbing the hot oil on my back with zero pressure for the first 5 minutes. I finally turned and asked her for a bit more pressure. She then proceeded to dig into my back with her elbows, just
Going up and down the spine, for the rest of the back “massage”. She dug in painfully, and kept pressing super hard,
Directly over my spine.
She wasn’t following the muscle lines, she didn’t touch anywhere except up and down the spine, and the few times she went between the spine and shoulder blades she just basically pressed into my spine with her elbows.
After smearing oil on my back with her elbows, she put a towel over me and just kept holding intense pressure down on one point for a minute at a time. This was not a hot oil massage.
At one point she was pressing so hard on a really sensitive area on my shoulder blades
And I screamed and had to shake her off of me. I said “this is not a hot oil massage!! There is a difference between zero pressure and digging in painfully with your elbows! This is not what i paid for”
She didn’t understand English, and I finally just laid back down and tried to relax and give her a chance to do a better job
This was not the touch of a healer, this was as if she had never given a massage before.
For the next hour, I literally almost walked out a dozen times. I kept thinking maybe the next thing she would do might feel good , but everything she did felt awful
She rubbed above my temples - not ON my temples, as a healer would Have , but just slightly above my temples, And her finger nails dug into my face. I kept twitching and trying to pull away and she would just laugh and act as if I was being difficult. I literally have scratch marks next to my eyes today from her nails
Then she spend a ridiculous amount of time awkwardly rubbing the edge of my hairline, but it didn’t feel good at all, she wasn’t hitting pressure points, and all she did was knot and tangle my hair, to the point where she actually pulled some out.
Again, when I yelped and jerked away from her touch, she just laughed and acted as if there was something wrong with me
I just laid there waiting for it to be over, and when it finally was, I was so relieved.
It was quite literally the worst massage I have ever had, from start to finish. She had no sensitivity to my body, or how to touch me.
I went to pay and was so aggravated that I completely skipped the tea, and just went to the counter, and said I didn’t feel good about being charged such high premium prices for such an awful experience
The woman at the front desk insisted I pay full price, so rather than argue with her, I did.
My nervous system was so frazzled ,
And all I had wanted was to relax, so I then went across the street to DeeDee’s massage parlor and paid 300 bhat for an amazing hour long massage, which was heavenly from start to finish.
I am happy to pay more for a good massage, but to pay double the normal rate for the worst massage Of my life; where I was injured repeatedly by someone who seemed to have never given a massage before - was just ridiculous.

Went with my family for massage. Opted for 2 hours aroma package. The room was clean and tidy, but a bit too cold. The towel used was too small to cover my whole body, leaving my arms and shoulders in cold. The masseur quality varies: two are quite good, two are really average. Felt that 2 hours package is a bit waste of money. Staffs are not too friend either, looked like they want to chase us out right after we finish our massage.
Overall, only average massage, did not feel the value for money. Can get better massage for better price in ao nang.

The booking for this family of four was made by Ms Samantha at about 11AM on 25 June 2016 after she made an inquiry via Facebook and confirmed that she was able to make online payment to guarantee the booking for 5PM on the same day. We do not usually accept online booking for the same day but made this exception as Ms Samantha communicated really well and explained that they were unable to come down personally to make a booking since they were out on a tour. We also assume that Ms Samantha is the wife of the reviewer as the record from our registration and online conversation matches the name, Hang Seng C. Ms Samantha herself however did not have a massage. The booking was made for two male and two female guests. Three had the 2HR Relaxing Aroma Oil Massage while another had the 1HR Foot + 1.5HR Relaxing Aroma Oil Massage.
At about 3PM, there was a request to change their appointment from 5PM to 5:30PM as Ms Samantha mentioned that they had lost contact with their driver. As we have further bookings following theirs, we cannot accommodate this request and also reminded them that arriving 5 minutes earlier is recommended otherwise their massage will be shortened. They arrived at about 5:10PM and even requested to change all their massages to 2.5HR packages. This last minute amendment was not possible as there were further bookings after their massage.
Below is a copy of our booking and cancellation policy as can be found on our website:
Please read before booking
An invoice for online payment via PayPal will be sent to you shortly. Please make payment at the soonest time to guarantee your booking.
Same-day booking via online is not allowed. Kindly make your booking in person at our reception.
Pregnant ladies need not apply as our therapists are not trained in prenatal massage.
Where possible, do have a shower before arriving for your appointment.
Do observe Spa Etiquette:
(1) Arrive 5 minutes before time.
(2) Switch off mobile devices.
(3) Keep silent for relaxation.
(4) Follow instructions and respect the steps and procedure of the therapist.
PAYMENT & CANCELLATION POLICY
1. As a courtesy to our team and other guests, please allow 24 hours notice for cancellations and rescheduling requests because your appointment is guaranteed and time had been set aside for you while other inquiries have been turned away.
2. Cancellations/rescheduling requests that occur less than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment are subject to a fee equal to the full treatment cost in all circumstances, including illness.
3. Late arrival will shorten your treatment time and no extension will be given.
4. Arrival 30 minutes or later after the start of your treatment time will be considered as a “no show” and the cancellation fee will apply.
5. All payments for booking either via walk-in or online are to be made in full in order to guarantee reservation.
6. Online payment is secured and processed via PayPal.
After the massage, two of the guests even complained and commented that there was no scent from the aroma oil used for their massage. Our staff find this strange but noticed that there were symptoms of stuffy nose from the guests which might explain why they felt cold during a massage. Maybe they were suffering from the onset of a cold having been out on a sunny day visiting inland attractions.
We are deeply sadden and disappointed to receive this review and rating from a guest who thinks that we are over-rated despite all our efforts in making the space private and conducive for a relaxing massage experience. Perhaps in the future we will re-consider allowing same-day bookings via online and especially those made for others rather than the person making the booking themselves since the actual guests are not those who could appreciate the difference that Aonang Haven have been making day in and day out for visitors to Krabi who are looking for a private and relaxing experience as reflected by the numerous kind reviews we have been receiving.

Hey,
My self and my Girlfriend recently went to Haven for massage based on the good reviews on tripadvisor. I used to live on Thailand for 2 years and would go for a massage 4 or 5 times per week. The massage I received at Haven was literally one of the best I have ever had.
The calming atmosphere, high end feel an peaceful silence contribute however the skill and attention to detail from the therapists was outstanding.
We went back 3 days in a row and would have kept going if we were not moving on to another part of Thailand.
First class, just go.
Cheers, Ian

Thank you for the review. We remember you as the couple who visited us on our very first day of re-opening after a 3-weeks annual off-season break in May.
Your kind compliment is encouraging for all of us at Aonang Haven as it felt reassuring knowing our guests recognize our efforts. We also appreciate your honest feedback after your second visit so that we can set things right on the spot instead of having heard about it later via some complaints online. We felt that it is a very respectful gesture for you to do so and is happy to see you again for a third visit before your journey onward to Phuket on the same day.
We look forward to seeing you again on your next travels to Ao Nang.

Hi,
May I know what's the price like for your services? Is it still the same as in the website? Saw that it was uploaded in 2012.
Also, can I make booking online? The place is a bit far from my hotel (Ananta Burin) so I don't think I can come over personally for booking.
Thank you.

Hi,
My family and I (me, my husband and my daughter) will be staying in Ao Nang in December and would like to know if we could do massage in our hotel room instead of your outlet?
Aonang Haven
Ao Nang, Thailand869 contributions
We do not provide massage services outside of our premise.
We would also like to take this opportunity to bring to attention that the conduct of massages without proper massage bedding/facilities and a less than conducive environment is harmful to the body and provide no health benefits.
If you are concerned about privacy, do contact us via email and we could make arrangements to suit your family.

Hi there!
I'll be traveling to Krabi sometime next month and I'm really keen on this massage place.
I'd like to know though, what are the prices like for a traditional thai massage and the others?
Thank you for your time!

Jean
