I was at scuba addicts at ao nang, krabi last Saturday with my big family. None was a confident swimmer. Tim said it shouldn't be a problem. But we insisted on a swimming pool class especially for my 60 year old mother, my wife and my sis. We three brothers were confident of being able to enjoy it. Like expected, david the instructor soon ruled out the ladies ;-) saying they were not ready for it yet as they were not getting confident with the equipment in the pool itself. I too could see them struggling with the gear. So we were happy that mum, wifey and sis sanjali were not jumping in the sea :-) (being less than confident swimmers, we definitely would not be able to save them at all) Here i'd like to advice non swimmers to definitely go in for a pre dive session in the pool as it gets you familiar with the whole thing in shallow controlled environment and you can enjoy it much more when in the waters.
We left at 7.45 am the next morning to phi phi islands. My two brothers, niece and me. It was a very comfy big boat with snacks and drinks to cool you off. Richard and David gave us instructions once again and finally after 2 hours we reached the beautiful dive site near phi phi.
Richard took over now. We took the giant step into the blue waters and slowly plunged into the water. Richard was fantastic coaching my niece at every step. Slowly we were submerged in the water and four of us with two instructors. I have to add that its not a sport for the faint hearted coz when u start going inside into the deep you do feel a sense of going into an unknown space. But the pool session the previous day had given us some confidence.
Soon we were on the floor feeling every breath and sound. My brother Ashish hand and me started gliding together on the floor. Soon he looked at me with uneasiness and signaled to david to take him up. David took him and me up to the boat and he said his heart was beating fast hence he did not want to be inside longer. But i was loving it! My first dive was cut short too! :-(
Anyways after an hour richard came up with Unnati and Aditya. They were thrilled! They had been inside for almost an hour. They had encountered turtles, fish, and strange aquatic life. I couldn't wait for the second dive. Soon i was under water again. This time only aditya and me. We were under water for 50 minutes. The instructors took us to a spot and left us to discover the world on our own all the while keeping an eye on us! Thats when a 1.5 meter shark showed up!! It circled around five or six times before deciding we were boring food ;-)! . We came up and saw the pics richard had clicked including the shark! on the way back we chatted up with some chang beer and enjoyed the big boat ride! M posting pics too. I loved the whole experience and Richard and David made it absolutely a safe and wonderful experience. I will soon get my PADI divers certification course!
Cheers! Richard, David, Tim and Andy.

We were in AoNang in Jan 2012 . We didn't plan to dive this holiday, but during our visit we visited the dive shop and the staff
arranged a local dive at one of the near islands. With a longtailboat and a guide we left to make the 2 dives. Our 11 years old son is Scuba Ranger so we planned a dive with a max depth of 5 meters. We didn't expect too much from this dive, but our guide promised is seahorses. And we saw them!!
After the first dive of 69 minutes we had seen seahorses, sea snakes , shark , a turtle , grouper, barracuda , and so on.
Althouth we have made more than 300 dives all over the world we were exited of what we saw here. We had a nice lunch on board and also the second dive was super. A very relaxed guide completed our beautiful trip. In december we will return for some dives.

I visited Scuba Addicts in October 2011 and it was really nice to be here with these guys. Andy and Tim are very experienced divers and know a lot about Thailand in general as well.
I did several dives, on the local islands as well as out to Phi Phi, all the diving was perfectly organised, good equipment, free food on the boat, etc. I finally stayed for over 2 months in Ao Nang and did more then 30 dives with them, all superb!

I went through their Advanced Open Water training during April 2016, yet I still did not receive any form of certification. I tried to investigate and contact the owner, but I could not find them on PADI official dive shop locators nor could I connect with them in anyways. So now I have paid the money and will get nothing out of it.

For anyone looking for a great day out in Ao Nang you can't go past a diving or snorkeling trip with the team at Scuba Addicts. I have been diving (and snorkeling) with a lot of the dive schools in Ao Nang and can personally recommend this one for great attention and a fun and lively day out.
They can give you all the necessary diving or snorkeling equipment you need (you can have a day out with them with nothing but your swim suit, some sun screen a hat and a big smile) or you can bring your own and families and individuals have a great time, you don't have to be in a group to have a great day out with Scuba Addicts. They also had a great option of diving courses to choose from and fun and lively instructors to take you through any training you want to do while your there.
They looked after me, they will look after you too!! Ask for Andy he will take care of you, and he had a great team with him that made my time in Ao Nang great fun.. I'll go back!

We dove with them in April 2016. We paid for the Open Water course. The instructor was Nathan. We didnt receive any certification from this center/Nathan. We tried our best to contact them for months, phone calls, emails, Facebook and no replies at all. We seeked for help from PADI but they couldn’t do anything since the instructor disappeared. Such a waste of money.

This is actually the place where I started diving. Actually i was really frightened to get under water attached to a tank..... That's not somethin for me that was my first idea. Well but then I had a few beers (figure) with Tim and he convinced me and I'm glad he did.
So that's how diving started for me, this has been a few years ago now. I went back a few times, always a great time, I finally even did the advanced course.
I've been diving in other places in the world since but I must say, Aonang diving with scubba addicts is still my prefered place; Totally personnal, and a lot of great memories attach to the place...
But I can only recommend that great team.

I booked two leisure dive trips, one open water and two advanced open water courses for myself and my fiance. It was very memorable as the team of instructors/ dive masters on board the boat were very friendly and professional throughout the entire trip. I was privileged to dive with Pete who really made sure we stay professional as divers. We learnt the basics of setting up our own equipment and keeping safe whilst diving. Pete has a keen eye for marine life. He pointed out many sharks to us and plenty of other interesting sea life. We even saw catfish spawning and it was just amazing that at every dives, there is something interesting to look out for.
The other reason why it was my best diving experience was also because my fiance proposed in the water during one of my leisure dives. The crew helped him to coordinate the proposal and everyone on board was celebrating for us. Special thanks to Ollie for helping us capture the beautiful moment on video and helping us to produce a beautiful video. Really nice folks at Scuba Addicts.
I will highly recommend this dive center for anyone who wish to seek a professional dives during your trip in Krabi. Was really glad that I've booked my dive trips with them. If I do return to Krabi to dive, I will definitely look up Scuba Addicts again.

I never had any real desire to dive because I'm generally chicken when it comes to these things. My partner signed me up for the 3 day open water dive course with no pressure if I decided not to go through with it. All the instructors and guides at scuba addicts were really good quality and made it all enjoyable. They were patient and made sure everything was in place. I really enjoyed the course and dives. I can't wait to dive again! It's an incredible experience!

We chose this dive shop based on the positive reviews, but to summarize our experience, we paid almost $1000 USD for 2 of us to take the 3-day Open Water PADI course at the end of January, and we even tipped our instructor Jeff another 1000 baht (additional $33). A full month later, this dive shop STILL has not submitted our completed course paperwork to PADI, so we have absolutely nothing to show for all that money spent and the 3 full days of our vacation spent getting certified through Scuba Addicts.
Details:
We had reserved our course dates with Tim, the owner, over a month before our arrival. He agreed to let us do the "try dive" at the swimming pool the day before, since I had read another review which highly recommended doing this if any of the people are nervous or scared about diving (which I was). First warning sign was when we showed up at the shop and inquired for Tim, only to find out that 1) he was not there, nor was he expected to show up at any time that day, and 2) the shop had no idea Tim had organized this for us, so we almost did not get to do the try dive (which was one of the main reasons I chose this company in the first place).
Fortunately a nice instructor named Nico happened to overhear us and generously agreed to take us to the pool for a try dive. He spent over 3 hours with us, helping us select the right equipment for our body size and helping us with our shallow "dives" in the swimming pool. If it weren't for Nico, we would have had a very bad initial impression of this shop.
The next day we arrived for Day 1, and paid a deposit in cash. We weren't given a receipt, and thankfully the desk person remembered we had paid, otherwise we may have had to argue about it (another reviewer mentioned "accounting" problems, so obviously this is not a rare occurrence). Over the 3 days we took the course, we only saw Tim a few times, and he was not friendly to us and didn't really speak to us (that was surprising since a few earlier reviews had raved about him). Fortunately our instructor Jeff was great (he usually contracts with Stingray, another shop I had considered due to its good reviews). For our Phi Phi dive, we used the Stingray boat and were very impressed with the Stingray crew. I would highly recommend Stingray.
On the last day, we went back to the shop to pay the remainder of the course fee, tip our instructor, and most importantly, submit our completed paperwork to get the online certification with PADI. We waited 30 mins only to find out that Tim did not give the correct password to the desk person. We kept asking the desk person to call Tim, but he claimed Tim needed to get the password from another co-owner of the shop.
We went back to our hotel and took some "passport"-type photos, and emailed them to Scuba Addicts since they needed the photos with our online application. We went back to the shop the following day to ensure they received the photos, and to inquire on the online certification (shouldn't need more than a day to get the correct password, right?) Well, surprise surprise, they did not hear from Tim and had no idea how to log on the PADI certification URL. We then demanded that they issue us a temporary PADI card, as we had read other reviews that said PADI dive shops issued these while the real membership card was being processed, but Scuba Addicts said they don't issue temporary cards. So I asked what do we do now, as we are about to leave Ao Nang for Bangkok? The desk guy replied, Tim will submit your online certification tonight, and you'll receive an email confirmation by tomorrow.
Fast forward to a month later, and not only have we not heard back from Tim or the dive shop despite several emails asking for an update and to make this a priority, we are now out almost $1000 USD with nothing to show for it. It doesn't help that Groupon and LivingSocial keep sending me PADI Scuba Diver course offers that charge only $195 to get PADI Open Water Certified. We paid $600 in total over what we would have paid if we had done the certification here at home. But that's okay, we wanted to learn how to dive on our Thailand vacation, happily paid the money and studied the coursework and performed all the water exercises--the only problem is Tim's lack of any response to my emails (funny how he replied within 24 hours when I first inquired about making reservations for the course), their empty promises to submit the paperwork, and their complete lack of any concern for their international clients who have completed the course, paid the cash, and are now thousands of miles away and can't go to the shop in person to resolve this really simple issue.
So now I have no choice but to bring this to PADI's attention by emailing their Quality Control team, as well as contacting PADI Americas and PADI Asia Pacific to see if they can help resolve this issue. Fortunately for us, our only saving grace is that I took pictures of our completed coursework, including our instructor's signature showing we completed all required components of the course, which I plan to send to PADI to get certification directly from them.
Tim, if you are reading this, PLEASE send in our online certification to PADI so we can receive our O/W PADI membership card. Why can't you take a few minutes to just submit it? Apparently you have done it for others this past month, you should have no problem submitting ours since you now apparently have the password. Please don't ruin our first diving experience by taking our money and leaving us with nothing to show for it.

The Scuba Addicts Team would like to apologize to you for not handling the processing of your certifications in a quick and professional manner, which we believe is the main target of your criticism towards our operation. this is largely due to internal communication errors which happened following a change from analog to digital certification processing.
we had and still have mechanisms in place to make sure that certifications are processed swiftly but at the time when you completed your course we were just changing systems and not everyone in the shop was instructed well about this. after talking to my staff i found out however that you had been offered to have your certifications processed the old way which is via mail, which you did not accept at the time because you did not want to pay 3 dollars for the pictures that we needed from you. if you had accepted that offer you would have walked away from our shop with a temporary card that is valid for 90 days by which you would have had the original certification sent to you.
also, the boat you were on is Scuba Addicts' boat on which Stingray Dive Center rents some of the spaces for their customers. the team on the boat and the boatcrew are mostly Scuba Addicts employees, which made your time on the boat memorable. we offered you a completely free pool session prior to starting your diving course, so you could see whether you could get used to the activity or not. you came back from the pool and signed up for the course so the instructor that took you must have done a good job, as did the instructor who you completed the course with. by the way he is not a Stingray employee but a freelancing instructor that works as much for Scuba Addicts as he does for Stingray. and finally he shares responsibility for this whole situation as well because the certification always has to be issued by the certifying instructor and even though we tried to contact him he did not get back to us on this issue.
to me it seems that you had a great experience which i also can see from our e-mail communication and that this review does not quite reflect the real opinion that you have about our operation because the ONLY negative thing you can say about us is that it took us a little long to proceed your certifications. i can not understand how that leads you to rate the whole experience that you had with us as terrible.
Scuba Addicts has been and will be doing the best we can to provide our customers a good value for their money and we would welcome and appreciate it if you could reevaluate the experience you made with our operation and let the review reflect this as well.

Hi, we are coming out in December and looking to dive, we are Master Scuba Divers with deep spec and over 170 dives in warm and cold water. If we were to book with you can you guarantee that we will not be with a group doing OW course or just snorkeling. We would be interested in doing a few wrecks and looking for some of the big stuff.
Thanks

Yes, you can, but you may need to find another shop for better customer service. We were picked up late, had too many tourists on the dive boat and our equipment was not in the best condition.. I recommend finding a newly opened shop, they always give better service, the ones just starting out. . Oh.. check Dive masters Certificates to make sure he is Instructor qualified.

Is getting to the dive centre a problem from where we are staying and can we hire kit rather than carry out all our gear as we are also doing some cave exploration.

Hi Peter,
Unfortunately the resort is around 30km for us and is out of our pickup range. A taxi would be around 1000 baht each way. Or it would be best to check with the resort to see if they have any free transfers on offer or how much it would cost to organise transport for you.
