- _hakan_bergdahlPitea, Sweden197 contributionsCan get crowded but very beautifulAmazing Island with a wonderful beach with white coral sand and clear water. Perfect for snorkling and there is a reef easily accessible from the beach. There are toilets, tables for eating your picknick lunch. There is also a small bar that sells refreshments. It can get crowded since many groups from speed boats and longtail boats comes here.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 23, 2023
- Charlotte_RUtah2 contributionsI absolutely adored this place and would enthusiastically recommend it over Maya Bay!Bamboo Island wasn't on my radar until some fellow pool-goers at our hotel spontaneously invited us to join them on a trip there. With no concrete plans for the day, we thought, why not? It unexpectedly became the highlight of our entire journey. This destination is a true paradise, boasting the most mesmerizingly colored water I've ever laid eyes on. The tranquility and serenity here are unparalleled, and the beach is simply fantastic. Snorkeling proved to be an absolute delight, with an abundance of vibrant fish to observe.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 9, 2024
- Yann RenaudSwitzerland859 contributionsImpressive beach, worth paying a visit with a tourA very nice beach, always very crowded, but probably a little less then other ones in the area. When walking a little in the northern of the island, you get a nice beach with far less people, making it really enjoyable! Worth visiting with a tour.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 30, 2024
- RamboNWAlbertaSpruce Grove, Canada651 contributionsGreat beachStopped here for an hour on boat tour, speed catamaran. Gorgeous sands, beautiful water. Swimming was great here, snorkelling available off beach too.. Island is small, tour boats had it busy while we were there.. would be fantastic to hit at quieter times.. Great place to visit regardless!Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 26, 2024
- Robertos-JourneySandpoint, Idaho89 contributionsA Great Little Island in the Andaman SeaBamboo Island was the best part of my tour of the Phi Phi islands. I realize the beach can be very crowded but if you swim about 100 meters offshore to the very edge of the swimming area, snorkeling is excellent. The island has food and restroom facilities. There is lots of sand and lots of shade if that's what you're looking for.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 24, 2024

Beautiful location and staff but very expensive for what it is. We paid for a room for 6 nights and ended up leaving after 2 due to unforeseen circumstances but was pretty glad we did as the bill was high enough even for 2 days. The food was lovely but compared to the rest of the Philippines is extremely expensive. The island is nothing different from any of the other 600 islands in the Philippines.
We requested a transfer to and from Coron pier prior to arriving which is around 190USD each way if there are no other guests being taken or leaving on the same day as you. Unfortunately for us we only shared a boat one way so ended up paying 13,333 pesos (around £210). As the resort is a private island there is obviously no other way of accessing the island other than by boat so feel it is unfair that this would not be included and especially at this price. A 45 minute taxi boat for 1 person to a separate private island (tru travels castaway) was only 2,000 pesos and that was because the guy had missed our boat (Red Carabao island). Bamboo island is only 1 hour from Coron pier so gives you an idea at how much more they are charging.
Food is roughly £40 per day per person without any drinks on Bamboo which is roughly what we have been paying with drinks for 3 meals a day for 2 people for the 3 weeks prior.
My partner and I had spent £800 in 3 weeks before staying on this island for 3 meals a day and lots of alcohol and were left with a hefty £400 bill for 2 nights for transfers, food and a few drinks. Understandably it is an island so you expect to pay more however after travelling from private island to island for the last 3 weeks it is extremely over priced compared to what we have been used to.
Staff were very helpful I can’t fault that side of it but would recommend against staying at this island unless you are prepared to pay high costs for little luxury. The shower was cold and with no door so you will be showering in swimwear and only lasts about 10 seconds before turning off so you have to keep pressing the button every 10 seconds. And no private toilet in each hut so you will be walking to a toilet block in the middle of the night if you are not a person who can sleep through!
Overall was not a good experience and would not recommend.

The sight of the wonderful white beach – Bamboo island, locally known as Koh Mai Phai – did the same. The speedboat guide collects the national park fee here. White powdery sand and crystal clear water makes Bamboo Island one of the best among other Phi Phi islands

We had a group tour and this was one of the last attractions. The water is so warm, but the sand was not as I imagined. It was coral sand, which is not so tiny and pleasant as white sand, but still, I recommend you to visit this place.
We also shot the video that showed what else you can find on this island, and if you in general interested to see the main attractions in Phi Phi but still doubting or choosing where to go first, then type the title on YouTube:
"You better learn THIS before going to Phi Phi Island Tour"
We made a detailed guide with maps and locations for snorkeling, describing where are the main attractions, which boat is better to choose and which places don't wort your time.

First stop on a phi phi island hop/snorkel day tour. A bit busy with all the boats carrying trippers but locket sand, good swimming and good snorkeling. Only there about an hour. Very pretty with a visit. Doing the tour from Ao Nang saved about 1000 bhat (£25) per person rather than from Phuket as closer. We went with Sun-san travel and tour.

This island was just stunning. We did it as part of a Phi Phi island tour. It’s a National park so foreigners need to pay an extra 400 baht but it was so worth it. We managed to get there early and before the crowds and it was beautiful.

A bland island we visited as part of a tour. The beaches can not compare to other parts of the country (Maya Bay, Railay etc.) and I’d put it on the same level as beaches in the UK or Ireland. It was the most boring part of our holiday and we couldn’t wait to be picked up again by the guide. Snack shop is expensive. There is a 400 baht fee to visiting which is understandable to preserve it but if given the option, do not pick a tour based on seeing the island or go out of your way to visit. There is no bamboo also.

Wonderful little island with lovely stands and lovely baths. Take the opportunity to walk around or across the island and enjoy. Many day trips stop here so there are a lot of boats at times.

Are there any food or drink vendors on bamboo island!?
Written December 9, 2019
Yes, they are. You just have to go for a walk on the island :)

Καλησπέρα, υπάρχουν εκδρομες που πάνε σε διάφορα νησάκια κι κάνουν στάση και εκεί? Επίσης πόσο κοστίζουν αυτές οι εκδρομές?

hi is there scuba diving available in this island , if yes hw much do they charge? also how much time to reach thia island from pattaya beach.
Written November 11, 2019
Its an hour speedboat ride from Phuket, and I would not bother with scuba at Bamboo island. Scuba companies are more likely to take you where tourists are not snorkling.
The island had a shelter & amenities, but I did not see anything fo hire there so you wold have to bring it with you

Is it possible to go to Bamboo Island with a boat but without a tour? Just ask a boat driver to take us to Bamboo Island and take us back few hours later?
Written September 24, 2019
hi Sevgilerl, you can take a boat to Bamboo Island with out a tour, they will charge you the trip and the park fee. The island has very little infrastructure something to take in consideration if you are going to be there the entire day.
Written September 26, 2019
Im not 100% sure, but I think you could snorkel around the island. I don't think you can fish of the island as its a national park. There is a good snorkelling spots right off the beach at the Holiday Inn which is close to Bamboo Island. There are many good snorkelling spots all around Koh Phi Phi and you can ask any of the boats to take you there. If the water is calm than snorkelling will be excellent otherwise the water gets murky. Have fun. I personally didn't like the bamboo island, but that my personal preference.
