Me and my PREGNANT girlfriend were held HOSTAGE by the driver that didn’t allow us to jump on the boat from Ao Nang Beach to Railay with other people (6 out of a max capacity of 8 per boat) unless we gave him £1,000 BHT instead of 150.
Ao Nang Travel agency is a huge scam, and soon tourists will turn their back at Thailand. To go from Ao Nang to Railay there are 2 options, either you pay the regular ticket and wait for other people to join (max 8 per boat) or you pay for a private boat which is 10x the price of a regular ticket. The drivers purposely tell you to wait and try to persuade you to pay for the private boat if you are less than 8. Having decided not to pay so much (1,000 BHT for a 10 min boat trip), the driver told me to go away and that he would have not let me and my girlfriend jump on the boat, which was the only way back to Railay. I saw 6 people jump in the boat and 2 seats were left, but they purposely didn’t let us in because they said it was a private boat. After speaking with the other tourists I soon realised that the driver was lying. We were held HOSTAGE there for about 2 hours and a half while seeing other people getting back home. After refusing several times to be scammed, the driver (a Thai teenager) told me to leave, cursing me and my girlfriend. The travel agency refused to mediate or to provide any help. This is a monopoly and they do whatever they want. I highly encourage to pay for a return ticket immediately otherwise they will try to scam you on the way back.

Went around 430pm and tried to get on a boat even though the last boat back from Railay was at 6pm. They mentioned we had to wait for 9 people to go but AFTER we paid. We sat around for 20 minutes for one more person until I asked when we could get a refund (which they said 6pm). They said our boat could go if all 8 of us would pay 100 extra baht. Finally they let us leave after one person bought the 9th ticket and taxied us over to their “pier” where the person with us ditched us and we were left without knowing which boat was ours. At Railay, we encountered multiple people who were told they could return at 6pm rather than 5 which their ticket said and were forced to pay. We also met another family who was almost stranded because their tickets were taken before they got to the boats. Once back to the pier there was NO taxi to take us back. This was not mentioned and we were forced to walk about a mile back when we didn’t expect to.
Overall this was only 6$ but we felt that regardless of the price the people were extremely rude, and inconsiderate. It really ruined a wonderful beach and was such a sharp contrast to the rest of our tourist experience in Thailand.

It'a simple.
1. You go to the stand.
2. You tell them where you want to go and pay either 100 baht oneway or 200 baht roundtrip.
3. You take a few steps and walk across, hand your ticket and tell them where you are going and they tell you to wait till there is enough people (8 I believe). Have a seat and wait until you are told to head down to the boat.
5. Get on the boat and get off at your destination.
THE END.
I have NO idea what people's problem is with these negative reviews. Okay so the people don't really smile.. who cares??? Stop being sensitive. I had zero issues with them. You are paying $3 (US dollars) for a what I considered to be a cool experience. What do you expect? A luxury 10 min cruise with champagne? People are ridiculous.
Having said that, IGNORE the negative reviews.
Follow the easy steps and enjoy your adventure!!!

After a nice day at Railay beach a big storm starts and we had to protect ourselves at a restaurant. We wait that the storm pass to return to the beach.
Our ticket for 200Baht includes the return until 18h. At 17h30 the storm calm down and there were 3 boats at the beach. Al of them ask me for an additional 400bath to return, or they will not bring us back.
The 3 boats were coming without anyone and nevertheless I was obliged to pay to take my 2 daughters and wife in panic.
It really shows the worst of the great people from Thailand. Shame on you.

After reading the reviews we were extremely cautious of this journey. We bought a single to Railay from Aonang, and then when we were on Railay and ready to leave, we bought a return ticket - it is 200 baht for a return either way. We only had to wait a short while for 8 people for one boat. Both journeys were about 15 minutes and were pretty smooth. It is my understanding that the ticket office on Railay beach is a different company to this ticket office so they don’t have anything to do with them or recognise the return tickets which is why we didn’t buy one. Overall it was a pretty easy and smooth trip, actually quite fun, and we would recommend doing it this way for sure.

You are pressured to buy a ticket first and then have to wait until the minimum number of people is reached to fill a boat. The problem is that there is no guarantee of when exactly how many people will come - and because we were there early in the morning, we wanted to wait until a group could be found to head to a beach together before buying the ticket. When there were finally enough people, they puffed themselves up, insulted us and refused entry. We should have "bought a ticket first" - then the boat set off with 6 people and we had to wait again until 8 people were together (more than an hour). The aggressiveness of the saleswoman was really scary and very untypical for Thailand. We were lucky that a group of 5 more people came right after us, who were then made to wait with us, so seven in total, because the minimum number of 8 people was not reached. We therefore CANNOT RECOMMEND this service!!! You should buy tickets for the ferry from Ao Nam Mao Beach to Railey & co.
The "transfer" is then with 8 men on the loading area of a pickup truck to a jetty and from there in a leaky wooden boat to Railey Beach, which took at least half an hour in total (they said 10 minutes beforehand). The driver couldn't speak any English and the engine broke down in the middle of the ocean. He had apparently forgotten to fill up the petrol, which he then did in between... all in all very adventurous and not at all serious. It's better to look for "Longtail Boat Service" and choose another operator!

Friday 19th January was the first time that we used this boat service. We turned up at the kiosk on the sea front and booked our return tickets to Railay Beach.
It is open daily from 08.00am so holidaymakers can book boat trips, a wide range of boat tours, private hire and a water taxi service
It was a bit busy when we arrived but the waiting time was minimal, fast and efficient.
We purchased our return tickets at the Kiosk which were 200 Baht each (roughly £4.40). We were informed that the last boat back from Railay was at 18.00.
We were also shown where to wait for our boat, we sat on a bench, under the shade of the leafy trees on the beach, for a couple of minutes before we were shown to our boat. The boatmen wait till they have enough passengers before they set off.
When it was our turn, we walked to the water's edge, removed our shoes, then waded a short distance in the water then clambered on board.
Each of the boatmen have a number on their shirts which corresponds to the number painted on the boat.
Once all the passengers we seated, there was an adjustment to seating arrangements due weight balance, the boatman deftly manoeuvred the boat from the beach and out to sea.
As our boat sped across the waves, the colourful pieces of cloth, attached to the prow of the boat flapped in the wind. Occasionally when the boat bounced on a wave we were hit by some spray from the sea, all part of the great experience.
As we sped along we got amazing views of the rugged and dramatic coastline as well as Ao Nang Tower and Ao Nang, Pai Plong, Minao's and Tonsai Beaches before landing on Railay Beach.
The journey lasted about 15 minutes where we jumped from the boat which had beached up at Railay.
When we were ready to return from Railay, we turned up at the beach and once on our boat, we were sped back to Ao Nang.
It was a great experience, which we repeated a few days later. We saw some stunning scenery and were in awe of how the boatmen skillfully handled their boats.

Avoid booking your boat at this place at all costs. They don’t care what you want, they just want to sell you at a high price. No one listens to your request and they try to make out your a completely stupid. There are plenty of tour agents along the street who are kind and want to help so I would go check with them. The lady at this place even posed for a picture she was that sarcastic. Avoid at all costs they are just trying to scam everyone their last penny.

We booked a private boat for the 4 islands tour. The women at the office was unfriendly and only cared about taking our money. No driver wanted to take us so we started late and then we didn't do what as planned.
The driver only wanted to come back asap so he could take people to Railey and make more money, even if we paid from 8 am to 4pm. At the end, we only saw 2 islands on the 4 planned, and were dropped at Railey at 1pm. It is a big scam

We had two great experiences with Ao Nang Boat Club. Day 1 we did a 4 islands trip and day 2 we visited Koh Hong and some of the smaller nearby islands. Our boatman was friendly and helpful, taking us wherever we wanted to go. He supplied water and fruit to help us stay cool. Our boat was number 79 and if you are looking for a great guide please ask for him as he is a real gentleman and will look after you. At the end of the second trip he allowed us to stand on the end of the longtail and took loads of pictures. All of them came out great so he is a great photographer too. So if you are looking for a longtail with great service at Ao Nang walk up to the boat club and look for boat 79!

Hello, does anyone know if the long boats from Ao Nang Boat Service club will take you to Centara Grand hotel ? Otherwise it appears you have to catch a speedboat from Noparatthara pier at the other end of Ao Nang beach.
