Nice and easy place to see monkeys if you are in Ao Nang
Nice place and free access. Really close to Ao Nang city center. At the end of the beach, you take some wood stairs, to go up along the mountain along the sea. In this small forest are some monkeys families. There are two species. The first Macaques is very familiar and they are not shy with humans. Be careful, they don’t like when people touch them. They can be agressive. Also don’t feed them, because it will not help them to be autonomous for their food research.

    Worth a visit
So many monkeys! We saw the monkeys climbing and jumping from the trees in our way up to the top of the trail. Then as we left, we saw loads and loads of monkeys sitting on the small temple. If you are planning to walk this trail, wear suitable shoes. This trail is made from wood and is not very sturdy. Some of the bamboo rails were not even attached for you to hold onto. Also, do not feed the monkeys. Otherwise they may attack you wanting more. Defo worth a visit. The monkeys seemed to just be in their natural habitat enjoying their day. Do not bother them! It’s so lovely to just observe!

Worth the walk even without the monkeys
No monkeys but did enjoy the trail! Be careful of the steep stairs and passing others but nothing not doable for the reasonably able walking person! Our dad is 65 and out of shape but he took his time and really enjoyed it! The beach at the end is worth it, especially at sunset. Beautiful! Made me feel I was in jumanji!

    It’s a difficult hike!
I was not prepared at all for this trek. I do a lot of hiking but this was scary. It’s incredibly steep and once you make it to the beach the only way out is back the way you came. It’s not very well made, we had elders with us and they couldn’t make the trek back so we had to charter a boat from the hotels dock to Railay beach. We saw no monkeys, it was very crowded. If you’re in decent physical health and want to chance it, it’s not a bad hike. The beach is pretty, but not the best I saw.

    It’s good
Quite a nice “track”. It’s a 30min max track to the beach, which is normally available only by boat. So I think it’s worth it. It’s a nice beach, but the way to the beach it’s a little steep in few points of the track and a bit slippery, so definitely take that into consideration if you’re gonna go. If you go off season as we, then I am almost 100% sure, that you will see a lots of monkeys.

Very beautiful, come in the afternoon
Vrey cute, but be sure to come in the afternoon - apparently, the monkeys sleep until around 5 pm. We went in the morning, and while it was gorgeous, we saw no monkeys. When we signed in, we asked the guy and he said they sleep until 17. We came back at 17:30 and sure enough there were many monkeys. Beware, though, they jump on you and open your bags, we saw them steal things out of other peolpe's bags. Make sure your stuff is closed well.

A short activity to try for fun. The monkeys are opportunists. Be careful.
We took a tuktuk to the bottom of the trail. We climbed the steep steps (not for those who struggled to climb as the stairs are rickety and have many gaps) and walked a few minutes before we came to the first monkey crew They will absolutely take anything they can from your bag so be careful. The whole trail is very short. Maybe not even 1km. But for an hour activity id recommend it.

A fun walk with Everest feeling
The Monkey Trail is worth a visit either as an activity to experience the nature or as a way to get to the neighbouring beach. It should be noted that there are some steep climbs in narrow, uneven stairs. Some of the railings should not be trusted as support for your weight. Nevertheless it is worth going. During my visit it was in the middle of the day so no monkeys were around. On the other hand there was plenty of people so here and there it was sort of a tropical My Everest feeling. That is waiting in line to climb the next section of stairs. The area is a national park and you will be asked to register in a log book when you arrive to Pai Plong Beach. There you can either go back or catch a boat, or why not take a swim?

Very enjoyable - wear sensible footwear and be prepared for a bit of a hike / stair climb
A bit tricky to find the entrance as its not signposted (or if it is, we didn't see them!). The steps are quite steep and rickety in places so just take your time and be careful and I'd advise wearing sensible shoes. Was quite busy whilst we were there so just took our time letting people pass up and down slowly but was a really good experience. Saw lots of monkeys up close though we didn't have any cheeky ones trying to pinch anything from us. They just seemed to be having fun in their natural habitat and didn't really bother with the people. The destination beach at the end of the trail is absolutely stunning and worth the journey in its own right. A great way to spend a couple of hours

I don't see any monkey, bird or snake here in my September visit. Steps are irregularly steep with bamboo-tied handrails without reinforcement and are not suitable for people with knee or ankle injuries.
It takes about 20 minutes to walk over this cliff side walkway to the other side which is Pai Plong Beach occupied by Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas & a longtail boat jetty. There is no good view here as the sceneries are obstructed by dense tree leaves.

Staying in a villa on the Marine Express hotel Aunang. Wondered what the noise on the roof was now and again last few evenings.
Sitting on the balcony today having a twilight beer and saw loads of movement in the trees behind us. A large group of monkeys having an evening excursion. Amazing to watch.

Can confirm the statements of others, no monkeys were found on the monkey trail unfortunately. We walked 30mins just to see them but instead we got rickety wooden stairs that seemed quite unsafe and an odorous black stream leading into the sea.
Wish I had read the reviews of others before setting out 😒

This walk involves climbing a very steep, rickety, poorly maintained stair case at the begging and end of the walk. This would be fine if there weren’t so many people on the walk. But the walk is over crowded and with the heavy footfall I wondered how long these stair cases can hold up? Because of this the walk did not seem particularly safe. Didn’t see any monkeys because there were so many people making a lot of noise throughout which probably deters them.

Saw lots of monkeys, no issues at all just walked and played around us, whole families of monkeys and some baby ones. We didn’t see any aggression today but respectfully watched without interfering with them (no feeding or touching them) they were claiming all over the walkway and beach and seems very pleasant and tame. Great experience.
There is a stairway that takes you to a bay that is absolutely beautiful, lovely places to eat and you can hire kayaks if you wish, sea was lovely and warm. We were able to walk in the sea around the rocks on the way back water was shallow around a metre and a half at the deepest point.
Lovely day out, if you have the energy there are lots of vibrant bars and restaurants in the opposite direction in walking distance.
