The small town of Mortain seems to be nothing more that a small dot on a map, but in 1944 it was the scene of a fierce battle between the US 2nd Batallion, 120th Infantry Division and the German 2nd SS Panzer Division. Of the...More

Worth taking the time to find this place. Usually locked, but outstanding vista behind the chapel - on a clear day you can see Mont St Michel - 50 kms. Poignant memorials to US forces who held the town Aug 1944.

Absolutely stunning views from the Chapelle, although not open all the time the history from 1944 is well detailed as you walk this site.

A very historic setting reflecting on the area's role in World War Two. Some reviews comment on the rough access - apart from the viewpoint behind the chapel the path is suitable for proms and wheelchairs. Make sure and visit nearby hill 314.

You must go here. It is a bit of a walk, but the path is paved and very shaded (went in June). It is a somber place when you realize you are walking on a battlefield as well. Many American soldiers died here in August...More

We went here because of the WWII significance. This was where the main German counter-attack was stopped in Normandy. The hill was held by an outnumbered and outgunned American force that was completely surrounded. Only when we arrived did we find out about this chapel...More

The walk from the car park (not too far) to the memorial to the gallant americans who fought and died around the chapelle and the magnificent views over the lower area of la Manche are worth a visit for anyone. It isn't Disneyland but it...More

Ideal for a walk to blow the cobwebs away in a Sunday. Rocky ground so wear stout shoes. The view is amazing
