I wouldn't recommend Nalsarovar unless you are an avid bird watcher or photographer and have utmost patience. There is sparse water (less than 1 foot throughout the marsh land) and the boat cannot rowed it has to be pushed through the marsh.

I live in Ahmedabad, so I have never stayed there in a hotel, if you don't mind travelling as the bird sanctuary will take only a day of yours to visit, then you can stay in Ahmedabad somewhere in a good hotel and travel to Nalsarovar, it is a 2 hours way which is fine to travell.
