There are many lovely works to be enjoyed at Almondell and Calderwood Country Park. This is our go to for a lovely walk. I would highly recommend and there are also many geocaches in the area for anyone who enjoys combining this with walks.

What a beautifully maintained outdoor space - we went looking for a dog walk and a enjoyed a fantastic 2 hour ramble. Excellent and spotless toilets with hot water, great variety of walks beside water which dog loved. Well done to West Lothian staff looking after this space.

Members of our Church met up in this park to have a Fanmily BBQ. The location of the BBQ site was excellent, and just a short walk from the visitor centre. The weather was just right which made all the difference to our overall experience.

Pleanty to see if you like going for stolls in the woods.

Gd walks yes but the owner needs to learn not to ask personal questions about my disability because i have a blue badge she said i looked fit and healthy...i was having a gd day but on a normal day i can be bed bound, she said the disabled park is only for people who cant walk but on the sign it doesnt state that only says disabled blue badges only which i have. Very annoyed and WONT be going back their to be questioned again

Almondell & Calderwood Country Park is a country park near Mid Calder. When we got there there was plenty of parking and there were signs for a second car park as well so it does seem well catered for in that respect.

There is a small visitor centre a short walk from the north car park and you can pick up a map of the area as well as some refreshments and other souvenirs. The first part of the park (Almondell) consists of a couple of well-defined walks along the side of the river. The area is beautiful and marked with lots of bridges (some nicer than others) and a viaduct, which is stunning. As you near the end of the first area you will see a recycling plant, not the prettiest thing to look at but it was unobtrusive so no issue. The end of the first section is marked with a steep set of stairs that lead you under the road bridge that goes into Mid Calder. This may be quite a lot to deal with if you are older or incapacitated in any way. Its well worth getting to the bottom because there is a beautiful landscaped garden to look at when you get there… it’s a private garden so you can’t go in, but you can see it well enough from the path. From here there is a well enough defined path through the second section (Calderwood), though this area is more open so you can veer from the path if you wish. This was much less aesthetically pleasing than Almondell so its no big loss if you skip this part, in my opinion.

We spent a couple of hours in the park and enjoyed the lovely walk, though the first area by the river was by far the best. Most of the first area has decent paths so I would say its quite accessible.

Almondell and Calderwood is a beautiful place and I have been many times over the past 20 years. The mature woodland is well worth seeing and the park is very handy for visitors from the surrounding area with good access and parking. The only downside now is the number of dogs. A large housing estate has recently ben built at the southern end of the park and now there are simply too many dogs in the park. Last week I cycled through the park on the National Cycleway and I counted no less than 68 dogs in less than a 1 mile stretch of road. Everything else is great but it has reached a point where there are simply too many dogs.

This is a great place to go for a leafy walk or cycle with the kids. You have the trees and nice paths along the river Almond and the interest of the canal feeder channels including a small aquaduct and some older bridges. There are several places you can park but the best is probably at the centre where there is a cafe and toilets as well as a play park.

During our visit to Scotland from Australia, we decided to spend a few days with friends who had just moved to the Livingston area. Although they were residents, they didn't know the area well. From Australia, I researched tourist attractions in the area and discovered Almondell & Calderwood Country Park. What a thrill it was to visit this beautiful landmark. Even though the weather was drizzly and wet, walking through the tree covered Glens and Avenues as well as wooded tunnels, bridges, rivers, aquaducts etc, this attraction proved so interesting, relaxing, beautiful and a wonderful chance to take great photos. Whether you are a local or a distant traveller to the area, we can highly recommend visiting A & C Country Park. Enjoy (but take a raincoat!)

A great place to bring the family for a pleasant walk through well laid pathways, picnic areas, playgrounds and trails. A pet friendly area for dog and horse walking too.

A woodland retreat winding around the river Calder which offers a great family outdoor space offering beautiful woodland scenery and plenty of fresh air and excercise.
