A light to warn shipping was first established on the Southerly tip of the Isle of Wight in 1323. Today the distinctive octagonal tower of St.Catherine's Lighthouse provides a waymark for vessels navigating in the English Channel and a guide to vessels approaching the Solent. Each tour is approximately 40 minutes. Tours of St Catherine's Lighthouse are operated by Andrew Booth, under licence from The Corporation of Trinity House.

So we did a day trip to IOW,including Carisbrooke, this lighthouse and the Needles. Carisbrooke nothing special, Needles park fairly dire, but this Lighthouse was brilliant. Tour led by a gentleman called Adrian. Fascinating. Thank you.

It's a fascinating site in a wonderful location. The guide made sure our 7-year-old was captivated (but not patronised) throughout, and he had a great time.

Really fantastic place to visit for a couple of hours. The guide we had (Cherry) was brilliant - engaging and knowledgeable. She was excellent with all the children in the group, asking them (age appropriate) questions as she went through the stories and pointing out...More

Firstly people should recognise this is a working lighthouse first - not a museum! It is open to the public from 1pm - check details on the website first!! There is no easy access to it - you have to park in Niton at the...More

There are no records that list the personnel serving at each station, but you might want to try researching the Trinity House records held at the London Metropolitan Archives for mentions of specific personnel
