Such a great place to visit, every type of rock, crystal, mineral in all shapes and sizes with a short explanation about most of them. Really helpful staff, cafe and a gift shop. Costs £5 per person but really worth it.

Visited first as a stop off on a cycle loop of the ncn 7 and it was a welcome warm haven for coffee and cake. Returned to visit the museum and have lunch. It's a great little attraction with a very nice cafe full of homebaked goodies. We had the spiced parsnip soup with soda bread and carrot cake and an apple pie. All delicious. Also picked up a couple of nice items in the gift shop. Well worth a visit.

We visited the gem rock museum and cafe this afternoon and we loved it. It was fascinating seeing so many varieties of rocks. The audio recording about the fluorescence in the cave area was awesome - a very nice touch!
Also, I wonder what they put in the scones because they are delicious!
Lovely place, we will visit again, for sure.

What a fabulous little museum. Packed full of gems, rocks and information, kids loved being able to choose a quiz, and everyone gave it a real family welcoming feel. Had a great time and food in the tearoom was delicious.

I found a leaflet at my hotel in Castle Douglas, so decided to visit. Right up my street, fascinating, lots of semi precious stones and fossils. I was very interested in the jade collection, but there was no one with any knowledge to give me advice.
Well worth £5 admittance. Lovely cafe, delicious scones and pot of tea.
Yes....would definitely go again, but would ring to see if I could get a guide.
There was a quiz for children.

Exceeded expectations! We hadn't intended to visit so hadn't read up on it first - thought it would just be a small room with rocks - ha ha! It's definitely not. Such a wonderful collection and lots to learn. I loved how they were grouped together by origin and also the information about how they were used. Not too sure if wearing amethyst has ever stopped people getting drunk but perhaps someone should give it a go in the name of research.:D
Quizzes for the kids are a great idea to get them interested.
The cave was great - really ignited imaginations!
Loved the tearoom and the giftshop, too. It would have been good to have some more vegan options in the cafe but we were happy with baked spuds and beans on the day we visited. The coffee was great. Really friendly staff in all areas. Definitely recommend.

A small but interesting museum in Creetown. At only £5 entry its good value. Lots of stones, crystals and fossils to look at. Also the 'cave' is informative and there's a good gift shop and cafe.
