Came to see the lighthouse and have to say I was disappointed. Can't go into it and surrounding beach was definitely not worth the trip when so many better beaches around. Went to Tea Caddy for our lunch which was the highlight

We visited here as part of our holiday to Parkdean resort, which was only a 5 minute walk. Luckily we had some good weather left so we had an excellent view of the beach, the lighthouse makes for some good photo opportunities on a good day. The beach is a mixture of a rocks/slate/sand which doesn't suit everyone. Overall its definitely worth a visit.

An amazing visitor attraction and the beach is amazing for starfish and huge crabs. You can walk along the beaches and enjoy the many attractions at Southerness. The mermaid bar is amazing for entertainment and the Paul Jones is great for food. The Tea Caddy is the best place to visit for any kind of food you want.

Didn't know where to write this review as there is no page, but this was our first visit to this caravan park and our first sun holiday and we were extremely disappointed with our caravan, our dog friendly caravan had no blinds and the curtains didn't fit the windows properly and as the caravan was situate at a corner everyone would stare in when they passed, we had no privacy at all. We had no veranda to sit outside as the caravan was extremely hot, as it was 24 degrees outside when we arrived and no window was opened, but luckily we had taken a fan with us, we couldn't have survived without it.
The beds were the worst beds we had ever lay on, the springs dug into your back and very hard, we all ended up with sore backs days later after we left here.
On the first night the toilet kept us all up with the water constantly running but we asked to get this fixed the next day, which they did, but then we had no water at all as they had a burst pipe somewhere, so we couldn't use the toilet or shower that day, and there was no bin in the toilet which is not handy at all and only one bin in the kitchen, how are you supposed to separate your rubbish into recycling and waste with only one bin supplied?
Our dogs were not comfortable either as it was so hot, we couldn't leave the doors open with no veranda, even a baby gate would have done?, this caravan was not worth the money at all.
The park itself was ok, caravans were very close together and no privacy but it was clean and tidy and plenty to do, the chip shop was good but expensive and the shop had all bare necessities but the public toilets were disgusting, they really need a good clean!
Don't think we will be back unless things improve!

I was a wee bit worried about going to a pet friendly caravan. Armed with cleaning and air freshener products we headed off for a 4 night break at Lighthouse Lesure Caravan Park. We arrived quite a bit early but the caravan was ready and the staff let us check in. The caravan was lovely. Spotless and very comfortable. I even had a nosey under the beds, no dust bunnies at all. Although it was very quiet here were still plenty of services on hand. The club was very nice. The barman even delivered a bowl of water to our table for the dog. I would recommend this. Not sure about some of the reviews, we had a great time. The beach was a bit rocky but natural. The sky above the park on a clear night was spectacular. All in all a very positive visit. Thanks guys.

Free entry but not open every day. Lots of steep steps and a small shop at the top for souvenirs. A £1.50 donation is desirable not compulsory or a purchase in the shop. Great views and interesting information from the man sitting at the top of the lighthouse. Short walk from the park dean holiday site.

Really happy to have visited here this week. Excellent that you can still enter the light house and climb the wooden stairs to the top. Was a nice surprise and on a clear day like it was when I was there the view was fantastic. My son loved being at the top of the light house and being able to use binoculars left out to view the surrounding area. Happily left a donation as such a fantastic idea.
Would recommend a visit.

Padlocked and no access so unable to go inside. Not sure we missed much as really bad smell from inside anyway.

An impressive and imposing building on the coast, with some interesting history.
However, you wouldn't know that from visiting: with no signage, no obvious details about opening hours, and the fact that the lighthouse has been somewhat neglected, this really isn't a "must see".
Maybe worth a look if they're having an open day, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend diverting here.

It was rough weather when we visited so that did not help with our impression of the location.
The amenities at Southerness are very limited, the beach is very rough and ragged rocks and stones. Access to the base of the lighthouse is very awkward and dangerous and the access door was locked.
Don't bother going.....

Is the lighthouse open to the public at any time, if so what times?
Written July 20, 2017
During the summer, the guy tries to open it every weekend I think but he said that's not always possible. There doesn't seem to be set opening times though.

The Lighthouse was Built in 1749, it is square and hasn't been used since 1931, it's about 56Ft tall, i hope this helps
