Been to Rockcliffe so many times . I agree with other posters it’s fantastic BUT spoiled by the ice cream van that sits there 7 days a week , 8 hours a day with the engine running all day long. Not only is it noisy but it dumps 1000s kg of CO2 into the air every year. Totally unnecessary as with a better fridge and a solar panel the problem is solved. Amazed the locals haven’t done something about it.

We had stopped over in Dalbeattie and had to go to this idyllic, rocky, beach. Initially we thought we would walk to beach but next day discovered it when we were heading out of Dalbeattie. Rather beautiful and realised we should explore Scotland in this Covid time. Looks like this is where ramblers, dog walkers and tourists come for a wander. Half hour parking as you come in free but further in pay car park. Handy loos on left as you enter and looks like campsite on left.

We like the walks through the forest, with Rockcliffe being our half way point. Stop to use the public toilets (next to a small amount of fee parking for those that want to drive here) and then visit the ever-present ice cream van (£3.50 for a medium 99, which seems a touch pricy), and then if the tide is out, we walk across to Rough Island - which is straight across from the small beach. If not, we'll walk around the coastal paths a little.

What a beautiful place this is, perfect in every way. It is a while since I visited here. Rough island is just a short walk from Rockcliffe and worth taking time to visit when the tide is out. Beautiful scenery, nice walks and the most glorious of shell beaches. Worth a visit.

A lovely little village with spectacular views all around. Went on the Castle Point walk (which was definitely not the 1 mile that the signpost says). The walk to this amazing viewpoint was probably 2 or so miles but definitely worth it if you can do it. It had a bit of everything; trees, beach, streams, views of the islands. There's a good free car park up the hill a bit which has plenty of spaces. A great place to visit.

Very beautiful and quiet little bay on the Solway Riviera with a sand and cockle beach that is good for swimming at high tide. It is part of the Solway Coastal Path. You can walk across the sands to Rough Island at low tide. Beware the passive aggressive southern English lady who runs the vintage shop and garden cafe. She can be very unpleasant when busy. Best to head up to Eats and Treats on the main road.

We found this place after driving the coastline in search of a beach. Ample parking and short walk to the beach itself. The tide was out so our boys spent lots of time searching for crabs. Was really clean and beautiful views would recommend.

Catch the weather right and the place is perfect - if not then it's a bit dismal as there is nothing really here except for a decent little beach and ice-cream. And, of course, the forest and coastal walks nearby. Stunning.

A quiet little bay but not much here apart from public toilets, a few benches and walking trails. There is a large public carpark nearby beach but didnt see any shops.
