You need a person to watch out for you while you take a photo to avoid getting run over. Its in the middle of traffic but lovely all the same.

Dont get run over trying to get a good picture.
This is some kind of a symbolic monument that has a religious/cultural/royal meaning, depending on whom you ask. Also, this is not the original (that was destroyed a while ago in an earthquake).
Maybe worth a stop to take a picture; unfortunately, there is not a whole lot of explanation at that location as to what you are taking a picture of... we had to get that from our guide. And from Wikipedia.

This monument located right in the middle of heavy traffic of the city, there is a small park at a corner of the junction with a miniature model of major historical buildings on the map of the city. The white and gold colours are making the monument so sacred and respectful.

Full of people stopping by and sitting around. Nice colourful night scene with many taking selfie and wefie. Many food stores around and a number of restaurants and cafes. The monument is standing right in the midfle of the road junctions with nice lighting to make it more attractive.

It believes that qmong local tourists if your visit in Yogyakarta is not complete without taking a picture this De Whitt Paal aka Tugu Golong Gilig or The White Monument.

There are 2 famous interpretations (Islam and Hindu) about the philosophy of this landmark.

In Islam called Hablum Minallah or the connection between human and Allah as a God, a kind of private connection.

In Hindu called The Lingga or The Phallus. Lingga is the symbol of masculine, power, fertility, etc.

Make sure that you visit this Tugu Pal Putih.

feel being in 17th century surroundings an antique and unique monument, it is only in Jogja. This monument also reflecting the greatness of Mataram Kingdom in the past besides its philosophy as a landmark of Yogyakarta that connect imaginary line between the place, Merapi and South Sea.
