This 25m Pilar is located on a roundabout of a busy intersection about a kilometre north of jalan Malioboro.
It was originally built in I755 by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono in the spirit of unity of the people.
The covering photo is basically what you will see if you come to visit it. It’s not really approachable as it’s located in the middle of a busy roundabout. Locals seem to appreciate it anyway as there are a number of people who stop by here at night to get photos in front of the monument.
The coffee store and cafe Kebon Ndalem is located on this roundabout and serves pretty decent coffee and Indonesian food if you wanted to take in the view.

Dont get run over trying to get a good picture.
This is some kind of a symbolic monument that has a religious/cultural/royal meaning, depending on whom you ask. Also, this is not the original (that was destroyed a while ago in an earthquake).
Maybe worth a stop to take a picture; unfortunately, there is not a whole lot of explanation at that location as to what you are taking a picture of... we had to get that from our guide. And from Wikipedia.

You need a person to watch out for you while you take a photo to avoid getting run over. Its in the middle of traffic but lovely all the same.

This is a monument - which is just a decorated pillar on a busy crossing. However, it is tastefully done and is popular for selfies with locals and tourists - but be warned it is on the middle of the road crossing and ugly wires hanging across the road spoil the show. Ideal time to visit will be early mornings and late nights.

This was near our hotel and every time we passed by, we saw people around it and taking photos. It's in the middle of a very busy 4 way junction, literally. We were surprised with the attention it was getting but may be there is more to it them meets the eye.

Good landmark when out and about. Highly visible but not a major tourist draw. Just part of the landscape.

The monument was lively and in the middle of a high traffic area. The locals were standing around and taking a lot of photos but it really was not a significant monument for travelers. Probably more meaningful for locals than tourists.
