We visited as covid restrictions were slowly relaxing. Unfortunately the ferry was not running, at least during the pandemic. It was unclear if the ferry service will ever resume: the on-site staff didnt seem to know. So do phone to check before travelling

Pleasant

A lovely trip out to White Island. The guy running the boat was very friendly and helpful, and chatted away the whole trip. The ferry runs essentially every hour on the half hour, with a break for lunch. It takes you to White Island, then waits at the jetty to take you back. The trip itself is about 15 minutes each way, so you've plenty of time to see round the ruins - they're only about 50 yards away from the jetty. Check that it is running, if you are thinking of going over the winter period. It's a relatively small boat, and absolutely fine for the purpose, but don't underestimate how rough the Lough can get - there may be spray, so dress appropriately.

The stone carvings are amazing. The ferry goes regularly, the staff are really helpful. Also recommend going to see Devenish Island, ferry from Trory.

Antiquity

Especially for children there is some sense of adventure getting there and the short cruise on Lough Erne very enjoyable. The ferry is not new but the ferry man very pleasant, knowledgable and helpful. Dont expect any facilities on the island. A real interest in antiquities will be well rewarded.

Hidden little gem on Lower Lough Erne
Aug 2017 • Couples
Operating from the marina in Castle Archdale Country Park, Lisnarick, White Island Ferry as the name suggests runs return trips to White Island on Lower Lough Erne. This service only runs on Easter & May Bank Holiday weekends & daily throughout July & August. The ferry is a small cabin cruiser which can take up to 12 passengers for a nominal fee of £4 per person. It is advisable to contact the marina as times may vary dependent upon weather conditions. It is a pleasant 15 min journey each way with approx. 30mins ashore on White Island which is plenty of time to explore the ruins of the 12th century church with its unique stone figures.. Our captain gave us a potted history of the island & there was a guide book available from the ticket office. We were fortunate to have fine weather so thoroughly enjoyed our trip. We would recommend this trip to anyone with an interest ancient sites.
