The Fort was much larger than I imagined, and was used as defense for several conflicts. Even though the Visitor Center was closed due to Covid-19, we throughly enjoyed our visit. There is signage throughout to help you understand the contruction and the historical context.

This is a typical style fort for protecting a harbor from a naval assault. It has earth-covered ramparts with gun emplacements behind the dirt berms. Interesting hiking and there is a small, unimpressive museum at the fort. If doing any of the hikes, bring a jacket to break

The Fort Morgan State Historic Site offers beautiful views of the Alabama Coast and Mobile Bay. We took the ferry from across the bay and the approach to the Fort is incredible. The tour guides are very knowledgeable about the history of this site and were dressed in period

My favorite historic site, this location spans from the War of 1812 through World War II while having the most glorious views of the beach. I highly recommend visiting multiple times- you'll always find something new. 100% worth the drive and the money.
