About
Located on Mobile Point, at the end of Scenic Fort Morgan Peninsula, the site has a diverse number of activities to make your vacation a memorable one. Preceded by another fort, Fort Bowyer during the War of 1812, Fort Morgan is a Third System masonry fort built between 1819 and 1833. Standing guard where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico, the fort played a significant role in the Battle of Mobile Bay in August 1864. Used intermittently through the Spanish American War, World War I and World War II, the site showcases the evolution of seacoast fortifications and adaptations made by the U.S. Army for the defense of the country.

History

There is a small museum that does a good job of giving the history of the fort. You can wander around the old fort and climb on top. The guide they give at the gate explains everything well. There is also beach access to Mobile Bay.

Great Historic Fort
Sep 2020
This is a well preserved fort that played a role in several of our nation's wars. Take a self guided tour to explore the grounds. Postings throughout help to explain the history. It's right on the water and it's dog friendly.

Really neat old fort! Self-guided tour material was easy to follow and all of the exhibits were clearly marked. Expect to spend a few hours if you want to see everything. Our teenage kids actually enjoyed looking around, but younger kids probably will be happier running around in the open grassy areas. This is a must see for military history fans.

Kids enjoyed!
Jul 2021 • Family
Kids enjoyed getting to explore the Fort. The disappointing part was that they aren’t offering guided tours right now. Our kids took turns reading some of the info, and they are still talking about it. If you vacation often in this area I would wait until guided tours are available again. Great spots for pictures in the fort! Very affordable.

Great activity for those staying on DI
Jun 2021 • Family
While staying on Dauphin Island, this a perfect activity to use up a few hours of your day! We really enjoyed the cool history behind this Fort, especially the Latrine: because nothing sounds better than sitting next to 9 of your closest friends on a wooden hole and waiting for the tide to come
In and wash it away! Obviously summertime is extremely hot out, but the there is an air conditioned, small museum, and a gift shop. (Which is also the place to purchase the tickets.) restrooms are on site as well.

Come Explore Some History!
Jun 2021
Exploring the fort was a very historic adventure! It is large and some climbing involved. There is also a museum that is very interesting to visit as well. All is included in your entry fee. It was also very interesting to see all the oil platforms in the distance which was not so pretty, but definitely something different to see. We were hoping to be able to explore the beaches, but didn't seem to find an easy path. We did visit a public beach on the way out and had a picnic lunch.

Very cool (as expected)
Jun 2021 • Family
We stopped in for a tour on a Sunday morning probably 8:30am or so. As you drive up to the location there is a pay booth you stop at on the road and pay your entry fee. We had 3 adults and 2 very young kids. We ended up paying $24 total. Not bad especially after we saw all the fort had to offer. We were going to enter the museum first but it didn't open until 9am. So we went on in to the fort. Very fun experience exploring around for yourself. My kids enjoyed it as well. Really neat history and what felt like discovery. We walked for about as long as we could (it was getting very hot out). We stopped into the museum afterwards which worked out because they had air conditioning inside there. We had a chance to cool off and walk around. There was more inside there than I expected. Even bought a magnet to bring home with us. After we left there we took a short walk down to the beach to see the view. Overall a great experience and worth the drive and money. I would certainly recommend that you come EARLY as we did. The heat was becoming unbearable and tiring all ready about the time we left. We were there probably close to 2 hours. Not a lot of wind flow inside the fort with exception of some "window" areas.

Exploring history
Jun 2021 • Family
We really enjoyed exploring the fort! At $20 for our family it was one of the cheapest things we did. The museum is small but with children, that wasn’t a bad thing for us. They liked searching the tunnels/rooms. We went first thing in the morning when crowds and heat were lower.
