This is my home and I am here to give you a real review. The Bahamas is not only a place for vacation, it is also home to people. The culture there is beautiful. The feeling of being completely submerged in the crystal clear waters as the sunk shines down on your tanning body is one you can only dream of. It is not run down.I don't like to think of that way and it is honestly really offensive when I see that people say that. If you want the fairly tale Bahamas please go to Nassau. Lots of touristy stuff to do while still getting an experience of the Bahamian culture. However if you want to learn about the Bahamas. The way people live and the simplicity of life there. Please visit Eleuthera. I love my home more than anything else in this world. Happy travels to anyone reading this! (If you have kids I strongly recommend Nassau. Like I said more stuff to do. Eleuthera and most other family islands are made for relaxation.)

We wanted to do a little more than go to the beach at a private island on a recent cruise on the Ruby Princess, so we opted for the shore excursion 'Rock Sound, Tarpum Bay, Scenic Drive & Lunch'. Our guide, Nikea, and driver, CoCo, were the epitome of great customer service during our 4-hour trip! The small group of us (maybe 25 on a bus with A/C) braided palm fronds into bookmarks and listened to a talk about how the local herbs and flowers are used for medicinal purposes on the one hour drive to Rock Sound. Along the way, we also stopped to use bathrooms, have a drink, shop locally and look at an ocean hole over 600 feet deep. The tour included a native-style luncheon on a beautiful beach as well as a taste of Junkanoo entertainment. I can't say enough about the kindness, patience and level of pride in their small community the two people leading our group had. We even had enough time upon return to do some swimming. Don't miss this one!

Rock Sound is one of our favorite stopping points on our way through the Bahamas. Rock Sound provides superior wind coverage when a cold front goes through the area. One can move from one side of the sound to another for wind protection. Rock Sound also has the friendliest locals that tend to go out of their way to welcome you.

Rock Sound is not a tourist destination. It's a hometown that happens to be able to carry both the needs of tourists and the life of the residents. There's a small airport and a very good market. If you sail, you'll find a great cove in which to anchor and easy access to food and sundries. You'll have to buy potable water.

We were excited about our visit to the Bahamas but hope that we just chose the wrong island. If all Bahamas' islands are this run down the tourist trade will die. It appears that many of the locals from this island have left to find employment in Nassau on the main island. So many of the properties on this island are derelict. Still, the weather and the scenery are great, and the sea is a visual paradise.

We were just passing thru on to Lighthouse Beach but we say enough to know we should have allowed for more time. We stopped to get gas at a convenience store and found it to have almost everything you would need. We saw Ocean Hole and had a nice lunch and then were then on our way. I truly wish we could have stayed longer.

Rock Sound is a small laid back community about 30 minutes south of Governor's Harbour. It has the BEST grocery store on the 110 mile long island! We love Rock Sound!

Rock Sound is one of the nicest little town on Eleuthera and has the largest community in the island It is situated on the south part of Eleuthera. All the houses are colorful and their garden/yard is full of tropical flowers.
Another big important thing: there is the largest supermarket on the island (a really great choice of food and products, highly recommended!!!). With my husband we go about once a week there even if we have to drive 1 hour each way! (it is important to know also that this supermarket closes on Wednesdays at 2pm and it is closed on Sundays).

This place is located in Eleuthera of Bahama. We visited this place as part of our Eleuthera island tour. The story was interesting the place it self just average, but we enjoyed the trip.

Here we found the Rock Sound Grocery Store. Very good selection of veggies, fruits, meats and staples. Wish we had found it earlier, Worth the drive when you first get there.

Also there is a Kalik Beer Store right before it going South. Maike sure if you need beer to shop there, they were the cheapest we found.
