Although I understand coming from a sales background the need to make sales. The way they go about it turned me off. Too pushy trying to make you buy anything even if its not your size. I gave it 3 stars because the jewlrey store is more professional. We ended up making a purchase there.

I love the way the square is set up the brickwork, the stage, the whole layout are fantastic. Friday nights the have live bands that are quite good. Be sure to visit Daddy Browns if you like fried conch fritters and visit the corner bar n bistro if you want some great daiquiris

Good music in the evening on weekends. It is a very nice outdoor place with lots of sitting. Several bars and restaurants. Also there are some locals which provide excellent information on the area. Safe place also.

The square is part of the Port Lucaya Marketplace & over the road from the Grand Lucayan Resort. We went there twice, both on Fridays (although I think there is something going on every night). There was a real buzz to the place, but at the same time the atmosphere was relaxed & friendly. Live music, a real mix of locals & tourists, with loads of people getting up & joining in. The stage, dance floor & seating area is set in the middle of a variety of bars & restaurants. No charge for admission, it was a fun place to be.

Try out all of the restaurants and try to stay away when the Cruise Ships are in port. It can be very busy.

Count Basie Square is located at Port Lucaya. It has a beautiful setting overlooking the bay. There are historic buildings all around. Across the bay there is Unesco SCUBA, legendary to the Bahamas. They have their own complex as well as museum. Count Basie Square was very quiet that day, as the lack of cruise ship passengers. After the hurricanes in 2016, three of the Lucayan resorts stand empty, closed. Their owners took the insurance money and left. Now the Bahamian Government is trying to find tenants or buyers, but in the meantime, the island struggles.

Twice we visited the square on a Friday night, during our recent stay on Grand Bahama.
We enjoyed the live music and the excellent Christmas decorations. The live acts deserve more support than they receive.
During the two weeks we were here we only found the market stalls and associated shops mostly closed on Sundays. Only at the end of my holiday did I come across the best/cheapest place to buy hematite necklaces at $7 for one or two for $10. The shop is called JEWEL’S FASHIONS. It is located diagonally across from Coastal Mojo, where that sell the lovely handmade individual souvenirs.

This market place serves the cruise terminals and has a variety of shops which all essentially offer the same goods. The prices are all set high and you haggle them down. Standard Caribbean stuff here. Nothing overly unique. On a side note, if the Carnival ship is not in port, or leaves, they close down and go home. If you arrived on the Grand Celebration ship, you may not have an opportunity to enjoy the market.
