Booked a tour with my wife, brother, and parents today to tour the Blue Hole. It consisted of snorkeling Owls Cave, checking out caves in Lucayan National Park with a quick walk to Gold Rock Beach and lunch at Banana Bay.
I booked through Calabash Eco simply because I had seen so many good reviews about it.
The positive reviews I saw were absolutely spot on, and this was one of the best tours I’ve ever been on. From the very beginning, Shami greeted us and we all got along great! He went far beyond a normal tour guide and gave us a very thorough and interesting back story of literally the whole island as a whole. He gave us plenty of time to check out the sites and swim and was more than happy to answer any questions we had. And we had a lot of questions.
This tour was fantastic with Shami not only because the tour itself was fun and swimming Owls Cave was such a highlight, but because he is just an awesome dude. Highly recommend the tour as a whole, as owls cave is difficult to drive to and find as a whole on your own without a guide, but everything together is well worth the half day and company you get with the guides, especially Shami.
10/10 no doubt.

We spent two fabulous days with Shamie on a recent trip to Freeport. On the first day, we kayaked with Shamie to Peterson Cay and snorkeled all around the reef. We saw many colorful fish and a couple of surprises: a ray (half hidden in the sand) and a lobster hiding underneath an overhang. Shamie was very knowledgeable about all of the animals and was happy to tell us what their names are. At the end of that day, when we mentioned that we really wanted to see some sea turtles, Shamie explained that we would be very likely to see them at another location where they often feed. He gave us the option of exploring that area ourselves or to take a guided trip with him. We had received so much value from being with Shamie at Peterson's Cay that we eagerly signed up to see the turtles with him on the following day. We met Shamie at Paradise Cove and kayaked out to the location where he expected the turtles would be feeding. He anchored the kayaks and helped us into the water, and soon we found several green turtles who were feeding on the grasses along the bottom. It was such a thrill to see these beautiful animals up close and watch them gracefully "fly" through the water. After watching the turtles for awhile, Shamie led us out to the nearby reef. There he pointed out many colorful fish and also a lobster and a puffer fish. These two adventures with Shamie were definitely the highlights of our vacation in the Bahamas, and we would be very happy to book more tours with him in the future. Shamie is friendly, helpful, patient, and communicative. We highly recommend him.

Shaime was an amazing guide, he really understands the eco systems of the Bahamas as well as the geological and biological history back to the Ice Ages. We explored the Cavern zone of Ben Cave at the Lucayan National Park, and the surrounding Ecosystems. He explained how the cave formed over thousands of years and was able to pick out tiny creatures that had adapted to live in complete darkness. I would recommend him to any diver interested in a Cavern Dive, and to anyone else who is interested in learning about the Natural History of the Islands. Extra props for taking the time to show me some of the other things to see on the Island that weren’t traditionally on his tour.

We enjoyed a great visit with Shamie to Dead Man's Reef. He took great care to outline our costs, activities and transportation to and from the cruise port so our expectations were met perfectly. We felt very safe in his care! Shamie shared a lot of information about Freeport and made it very interesting. We were able to try out kayaking with a short paddle out to the reef in shallow water and a lengthy guided snorkel. Saw many fish and coral and lots of friendly turtles. We also stopped at da boiling pot for a little exploring. Next time we stop in Freeport, we would love to explore the other side of Grand Bahama on a Calabash Eco excursion with Shamie!

Shamie took me diving in the Cavern section of Bens cave. Shamie was great from the outset, explaining the dive plan and cave layout in a really clear and useful way that helped calm any nerves but also allowed me to better appreciate the experience during the dive. He has a nice manner and puts you at ease, but also knows his subject matter inside out and has been diving the caves at Lucaya for over 30 years.

The cavern itself is incredible, very alien world with stalagmites, stalactites and lots of strange looking fossils and rock formations. It is a bit eerie but also feels very peaceful and prehistoric. It is pitch black dark with your flashlight turned off, however, the water is unbelievability clear - at the end of the cavern if you turn round and face the entrance you can still see the light shining though from a distance of 200 feet! This provides some reassurance that if need be, you will never struggle to find the exit.

This is so different to any other diving I have done previously and is by far the best dive that I have ever done (120+ dives worldwide). It was a really special experience, and is thoroughly recommended.

Thanks Shamie

Booked an excursion to Paradise Cove for snorkeling and Pelican Lake for kayaking over whatsapp with Shamie. Wonderful trip. Shamie is very knowledgeable about Grand Bahama and its plants and animals. He kept us entertained with facts and pointed out things of interest during our trip. After our excursion, he took us further down the island to a restaurant where we ate the most delicious shrimp and fish. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely book another the next time we are there.

We just returned from our weekend in the Bahamas. We were a group of 4 women all over 70. We all are avid kayakers and were looking for a new adventure and thought we would try snorkeling while on our weekend getaway.
I found Calabash Eco Adventures online and thought we would give it a try. After reaching out to Shamie we decided on the Deadman’s Reef Kayak Snorkel Adventure.
Words cannot described how amazing this tour was. Shamie was patient, kind, and knowledgeable. He gave us a brief history lesson of the island as we drove to Deadman’s Reef and explained everything thing we were doing in detail to help alleviate some of our apprehension about snorkeling for the first time. We saw many turtles, a shark, puffer fish, a lobster, stingray and many nameless colorful tropical fish. I would recommend this adventure highly.

You won’t get an experience like this with any other agency! Our family had the pleasure of doing the inland Blue Hole Snorkel Adventure: easily the highlight of our Grand Bahamas trip. Our guide, Shamie, was not only vastly knowledgeable about the island, but dropped us off at a different location than our original plan upon request. He truly was the best guide and catered the tour to our interests and schedule. Can’t recommend enough!

This was such a fun adventure! Our driver Denise was wonderful and taught us so many things about the island. She drove us to Shamie at Owl's hole and he took us the rest of the way of the rough road out. He was very polite and took some great photos of us at the hole. We brought 4 kids ages 8-17 and they all loved it. We all worked up the courage to jump off the ledge down into the hole. After the hole, we went kayaking at Lucayan Ntl Park. We saw the spot were Pirates of the Carribean was filmed. The kayaking was through mangrove trees and tight at spots but we navigated through just fine. We eneded at Gold Rock beach and spent 20 minutes there. We could have grabbed lunch at a local restaurant after, but we decided to head back to our cruise ship instead. Fun day! Highlight of trip. .

We had the best day despite a day of rain. I was so pleased with Shamie and his staff. I reached out via what’s app Snorkeling Freeport (+1 (242) 829-7400) and the communication was excellent throughout the planning. As we got closer to our booked day the weather out look called for a day of rain. Our cruise ship canceled there tours but Calabash tours didn’t. Shamie worked with us to create a terrific day for our group. Even when our changes lead us to needing to possibly cancel lunch, he stayed with us for an extra hour to make sure we had an amazing local lunch. We had a rainy cold day but it was one of the best we had on our cruise.
