Booked a tour with my wife, brother, and parents today to tour the Blue Hole. It consisted of snorkeling Owls Cave, checking out caves in Lucayan National Park with a quick walk to Gold Rock Beach and lunch at Banana Bay.
I booked through Calabash Eco simply because I had seen so many good reviews about it.
The positive reviews I saw were absolutely spot on, and this was one of the best tours I’ve ever been on. From the very beginning, Shami greeted us and we all got along great! He went far beyond a normal tour guide and gave us a very thorough and interesting back story of literally the whole island as a whole. He gave us plenty of time to check out the sites and swim and was more than happy to answer any questions we had. And we had a lot of questions.
This tour was fantastic with Shami not only because the tour itself was fun and swimming Owls Cave was such a highlight, but because he is just an awesome dude. Highly recommend the tour as a whole, as owls cave is difficult to drive to and find as a whole on your own without a guide, but everything together is well worth the half day and company you get with the guides, especially Shami.
10/10 no doubt.

Booked an excursion to Paradise Cove for snorkeling and Pelican Lake for kayaking over whatsapp with Shamie. Wonderful trip. Shamie is very knowledgeable about Grand Bahama and its plants and animals. He kept us entertained with facts and pointed out things of interest during our trip. After our excursion, he took us further down the island to a restaurant where we ate the most delicious shrimp and fish. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely book another the next time we are there.

We enjoyed a great visit with Shamie to Dead Man's Reef. He took great care to outline our costs, activities and transportation to and from the cruise port so our expectations were met perfectly. We felt very safe in his care! Shamie shared a lot of information about Freeport and made it very interesting. We were able to try out kayaking with a short paddle out to the reef in shallow water and a lengthy guided snorkel. Saw many fish and coral and lots of friendly turtles. We also stopped at da boiling pot for a little exploring. Next time we stop in Freeport, we would love to explore the other side of Grand Bahama on a Calabash Eco excursion with Shamie!

We spent two fabulous days with Shamie on a recent trip to Freeport. On the first day, we kayaked with Shamie to Peterson Cay and snorkeled all around the reef. We saw many colorful fish and a couple of surprises: a ray (half hidden in the sand) and a lobster hiding underneath an overhang. Shamie was very knowledgeable about all of the animals and was happy to tell us what their names are. At the end of that day, when we mentioned that we really wanted to see some sea turtles, Shamie explained that we would be very likely to see them at another location where they often feed. He gave us the option of exploring that area ourselves or to take a guided trip with him. We had received so much value from being with Shamie at Peterson's Cay that we eagerly signed up to see the turtles with him on the following day. We met Shamie at Paradise Cove and kayaked out to the location where he expected the turtles would be feeding. He anchored the kayaks and helped us into the water, and soon we found several green turtles who were feeding on the grasses along the bottom. It was such a thrill to see these beautiful animals up close and watch them gracefully "fly" through the water. After watching the turtles for awhile, Shamie led us out to the nearby reef. There he pointed out many colorful fish and also a lobster and a puffer fish. These two adventures with Shamie were definitely the highlights of our vacation in the Bahamas, and we would be very happy to book more tours with him in the future. Shamie is friendly, helpful, patient, and communicative. We highly recommend him.

We just returned from our weekend in the Bahamas. We were a group of 4 women all over 70. We all are avid kayakers and were looking for a new adventure and thought we would try snorkeling while on our weekend getaway.
I found Calabash Eco Adventures online and thought we would give it a try. After reaching out to Shamie we decided on the Deadman’s Reef Kayak Snorkel Adventure.
Words cannot described how amazing this tour was. Shamie was patient, kind, and knowledgeable. He gave us a brief history lesson of the island as we drove to Deadman’s Reef and explained everything thing we were doing in detail to help alleviate some of our apprehension about snorkeling for the first time. We saw many turtles, a shark, puffer fish, a lobster, stingray and many nameless colorful tropical fish. I would recommend this adventure highly.

From the beginning all communication was quick and easy through the whatsapp! Shammie was out guide, he met us on time and at the designated meeting place. our trip was to Paradise Cove to kayak and snorkel the reef. Shammie was extremely helpful to my wife who was having difficulties with snorkeling. we were given the opportunity to stay at Paradise Cove or go to another location for lunch but we opted to just return to the ship and have lunch there.

This was an amazing day, a wow once-in-a-lifetime experience and Bahama's best kept secret, Owl's hole! I came off the Bahama's Celebration and from there I called/texted with Calabash to ensure I was in the right place, which is included in my TMobile phone service BTW so check on your phone plans. Vadoyle met us and we were actually the only two on the tour that day. To make him easy to find, Calabash also emails you to this that they wear yellow and a special outfit so you can find them and this works well as there are a few tour guides in the area waiting for tours. Vadoyle was awesome, patient, and friendly and while on our drive he talked about the island and everything you needed to know about the whereabouts we were and history. We went to the Owl's Hole first which is quite an off-road adventure!! Even he said it's hard for him to find even though he knows where it is! We hiked through the small trail and lo and behold yes there is a beautiful freshwater blue hole in the ground! Just watch out for poison ivy on the walk, Vadoyle pointed it out every time so not to fear. He also knows his stuff with nature, plants etc so feel free to ask him anything! After going down the 30 ft ladder (don't be afraid of heights!), the water was pretty cool - but warmer than I expected! The geological rock formations are AMAZING, beautiful water and friendly and huge shrimp that will walk on your hands if you hold still! While snorkeling underwater, the caves curve under, almost making you feel like you're upside down, it's crazy! We had this whole beautiful gem to ourselves and it was awesome. Next we went to the beautiful Golden Beach, at The Lucaya National Park - I had been here before, but it is literally such a beautiful place with huge interesting driftwood on the beach, rock islands in the distance and beautiful clear shallow water. We then went to check out Ben's Cave and another cave in the area where the Lucayan natives lived and buried their dead. What beautiful formations of caves and water, amazing and tranquil. After this we headed to Banana Bay cafe and beach, where we treated ourselves to conch-EVERYTHING; chowder, burger, cracked conch which was DELICIOUS and also not touristy, but actually groups of locals were there also chowing down! Eat the conch and drink the local beer! This beach was also beautiful white sand and we relaxed a bit. We then went back to the cruise ship after our amazing day! What a wonderful day this was, totally off the beaten path – totally not what the average tourist does. Exactly everything that the Calabash website, videos, and ECO-tours stand for. Thank you to Calabash and Vadoyle for making awesome adventure tours at these off-the-beaten-path hidden gems! When can you snorkel in a beautiful hole 30 feet down all to yourself?...only in the Bahamas with Calabash!!

We were in Freeport for a daytrip during spring break 2014. We chose the snorkling/kayaking outside of the the cruise bookings. SO SO SO glad we did! Had SSSOOO much fun snorkeling around the island and seeing all of the sealife. Then we stopped for lunch and had Conch for the first time. Perfect day and wouldn't change a thing. All of the staff was fantastic and super accomodating (we had a food allergy in our party). Water was a little choppy the day we went, but this just made for a better workout. :)

My husband and I went on a cruise for our anniversary. One of our stops was in Freeport. I wanted an excursion that would allow us to see the sights and learn about the Bahamian culture.I read a lot of reviews before booking this excursion. I decided to book the tour called inland blue hole adventure. I felt confident that it would be a fun way to spend the day.

Tara was our guide who met us at the boat. There was a small group of people and we all left in a van.our first stop was the dive shop because some of the people in our group for diving. After that we made our way through the city and into the outdoor adventure part. During the 30 minute drive we learned so many things about the land and the people who live in Freeport.

Shammie was our tour guide. He knows so much about the island and taught us so many wonderful things about what we were seeing during the drive. Our first stop was at owl hole. It is in the middle of nowhere and is absolutely beautiful. This is where we went snorkeling for a little while. It's very scary climbing down the ladder steps but definitely worth it. After this we made our way to the national Park. We visited several caves and did a little sightseeing before moving to the beach. I have never seen a more beautiful beach. It was picture-perfect and looked like something from a postcard. After this we drove to Bahama Bay restaurant. We had lunch here and enjoyed another beautiful beach. After this we were taken back to the boat.

This was an all day excursion and a wonderful way to the the island and learn the history. I was very impressed with how smoothly everything went. The tour guides are wonderful and really try hard to make your experience unique and special. The price is really affordable considering everything that you're able to do during this tour. I highly recommend booking a tour through Calabash. You won't regret it.

We booked this excursion while on a cruise with our high school graduates. Only 8 of us went on this excursion and the ones who didn't go regretted it! It's a very personal tour. Our 8 was the total group. You are picked up as soon as you get off your ship and delivered back the same way. Our ship was an hour late into port and we had already had lunch so we skipped the eating part of the excursion. Our guide was Ansenio and he couldn't have been better at his job, which he obviously loves. We also met Michael and he too had a great personality. Our group had a range as far as swimming abilities, but everyone did great. You wear a self-inflatable life vest so if you need some rest from snorkeling you can just blow it up a little. It's about a 30 minute drive to get to where you depart on the kayaks but that's pretty interesting ride also and you get to see a lot of Freeport. You kayak over to the little island, which is only about 15 minutes of paddling. We snorkeled an hour and a half approximately. Some in our group did get tired but the sights are so wonderful you didn't think much of it until you got out of the water. The guide has a floating "stick" you hold on to if you get tired while you're in the water. Ansenio did a fantastic job with safety and instructions for our new snorkelers. Everyone felt very comfortable. We saw two sharks and fish galore, and a couple of our group saw a sea turtle. We ended by stopping over a large bed of sand dollars where we all gathered some to take home. Hermit crabs are all over the beach. We did snorkel out from the beach and I think if you are uneasy with getting in water over your head you could stay near the shore. The water is indescribable in clarity and color. Other members of our group went on a snorkel excursion in Nassau and it was a very large group and only lasted 30 minutes. You won't be sorry if you book this one! You are also furnished a dry bag for your belongings. And I would recommend wearing water shoes because the sand is very rocky as you get in and out of the water but I'm not sure how you would manage them with your fins. Ask for Ansenio if you can! When you leave you'll want to take him with you!
