About
This stunning Bahamian beach on the north coast of Paradise Island is perfect for a day of fun in the sun. The fine powdery sand and inviting waters make it an ideal spot for sunbathing (there are sunchairs and umbrellas for rent from the beach club, too), swimming, and other water activities. Be careful when swimming though—the waves can be a little rough and there's no lifeguard on duty. For more adventure, kayaks, banana boats, and jetskis are readily available for rent—try them all on an adventure tour of Cabbage Beach. The beach can be busy, especially from November to May, so visit on weekdays for fewer crowds. – Tripadvisor

- KimberlyMichigan30 contributionsCabbage BeachIt is a beautiful beach but unfortunately the shorebreak was powerful so take caution. You can rent 2 chairs and an umbrella for $25 if you're good at hustling with the hustlers renting them. Don't fall for the pineapple or coconut gimmick, you get the same amount of liquid in an cup that they also sell. Bargain for cost of the drinks too. I was getting 3 for $20. They pour them strong if you ask them to, but it's cheap liquor. The hustlers are an interesting group and I enjoyed interacting with them. They're just trying to make a buck like everyone else. I only saw 2 vendors walking the beaches the 3 times I was there. The beach wasn't crowded on the days that I was there--Sunday, Thursday, and Friday.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 17, 2024
- 1nolney87 contributionsTourist trap, but the views and the water are amazing. Find Local Larry, worth the extra $$ not to get huddled.Water was beautiful, listing to the waves crash. The beach was really busy, could tell it was more of a tourist type destination but we understood what it was going to be. You get bombarded with trinkets and chairs and umbrellas and drinks. I would recommend passing the heard, which we didn’t do, and go straight down and when you get there if you are going to get the pineapples go to local Larry’s. I thought that’s who I was talking with because the young gentleman stopped me right in fro t of the pop up. He was working for a different pop up which didn’t give me what was promised with free make my own drinks. Will know better next time. $40 all you can drink, $30 umbrella & $15 (each) for chairs. You can haggle them a bit.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 23, 2024
- Nirupama M4 contributionsBest beach experience! One of the best beaches we've ever been to. Easy access from downtown Nassau (where we are staying) - 10 min cab ride for $5/person. It was a windy day, so got some big swells, which we totally enjoyed, except that we were covered in sand and salt and was hard to wash them off. We rented chairs and an umbrella and it was just the perfect place to sit and relax with pineapple and coconut daiquiri. There were mobile toilets. We were lucky to find vegetarian food at Viola Bar & Grill, right next door from the beach entrance.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 8, 2024

Use the Google Waypoint to find the public access point; it’s easy to miss. We arrived early, which is the key to all things Bahamian Event. From the public beach access point, heading immediately left will lead you to chair and umbrellas. Heading the to the right brings you along a beautiful and clean stretch of white sand beach. There are no shells, really, or rocks but the sand is loose and makes walking an effort. We found no signs of sea life, either cute or menacing, in the waters during our day; however, on the crowded area of the beach we did get a report of a stingray so maybe the wildlife knows where the food is…… The waves were gentle and the currents soft that day. We walked about 300’ down the beach to escape the masses and found ourselves, audibly and visibly for all intents and purposes, on a private beach. By around 1230 or so the populated beach had started to encroach on us, but we were afforded several hours of isolation listening to the gulls and the waves on the nearby shore.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 18, 2024
- Colleen N17 contributionsThe most amazing!!!Literally the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen. We entered down by cabbage beach bar &grill. It’s away from the public access entrance. It is definitely the place to go. So quiet, no panhandlers. The rocky out crops were amazing, so beautiful and a must see. Lots of snorkeling opportunity down there. Highly recommend. And stop at the cabbage beach bar and grill on your way out. Great food and drinks!Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 4, 2024
- risa1818Boston, Massachusetts15 contributionsStunning BeachGorgeous beach! Our hotel shuttled us over and dropped us off by a little bar and restaurant. We were in a pretty quiet part of the beach. It was very clean, the water was clear and beautiful and we saw some fish! Only downside was that we wanted to rent an umbrella, but the person renting them said you had to rent chairs with it 👎🏻 The price to rent them was stupid expensive, so we passed. BYOU if you can!Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 22, 2024
- nicthegreek2013Toronto, Canada169 contributionsNice beach, with too many distractions and locals pestering you.Beach was great. Mening the water and the sand. It was a little crowded and too much of a tourist spot for me even though the beach was actually free. Too many people renitng chairs umbrellas and getting drinks etc. I am not sure about you but when I go to the beach I want peace and quite. You wont get that here. I never prefered Naussau, and now that is even more true. By the way stay away from the drink packages. Drinks were lukewarm at best in unsanitary conditions.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 23, 2024

This beach is beautiful and the most popular beach in the Bahamas for tourists but I would not recommend going there if you want to swim. The waves are huge and are very very very rough!! Most of the time they have lifeguards who actually dont let you going in beyond your knees as you can easily get sucked in from the waves. The beach os often so crowded that the lifeguards only watch a small part of the beach. I have been swimming in the ocean for a long time and am a strong swimmer but I was over powered by the waves and got sucked in and tossed around and had my knees slammed into the bottom. It can be Very dangerous especially for little kids. Other calmer beaches I would recommend for swimming are Love beach, cable beach or goodmans bay. Junkanoo beach is also good but very busy as most of the people from the cruise ships go to this beach. There are also dozens of people walking along trying to sell you hair braiding, bracelets, bag, wraps, cigars etc.

This is the public part of the Paridise Beach monopolized by Atlantis hotel. Access is best found by a cab driver, who will be in the know. Hard to find access on foot, due to the city wanting to make revenue on tourists and not marking the way. follow the crowds East. The beach is beautiful, but full of vendors near the access selling pineapple drinks for $20, or 2 fills for $30. Hike up the beach East 150 yards to find something more private.

Honest review, Cabbage Beach was beautiful, but... We had one day in Nassau during our cruise and rode a ferry from the port. Then took a cab to the beach. The walk would’ve been very confusing. I recommend getting a cab from the port to take you to the beach to save money. Call Scratchie at (242) 426- 2153. Although the beach was beautiful I recommend getting onto the beach and walker further along so that you can get away from the pushy vendors. They are trying to sell and sell and SELL and it can get in the way of your enjoyment. The waves can also be rough depending on the weather. The food was a 10 minute walk away from the beach at a restaurant called Viola’s, a part of private property. You can’t access it from the sand you have to walk out of the beach and follow the sidewalk to a yellow building.

What a sh.t show! (Note, this is directed at the “public beach access” area. Locals have taken it upon themselves to line the sand alleyway from where taxis (also shady) drop you off. The locals are aggressive and try to intimidate you into paying them to “rent” their lounge chairs (which are dirty, and in poor shape). Then they want to sell you a drink for $45, but they will refill it for $10 more per drink. And food? Yeah, they have a guy who will deliver stuff- “Later.” And the restrooms are dirty, ports potties- do yourselves a favor and with pay the $190/a day per person for a day pass at Atlantis, or stay far, far away from the $5 taxi ride from the cruise terminals (which turned into 2 different taxis as they play tourists & drop you at Atlantis and then say the other cab will take you the 20 minute drive to Cabbage beach (it’s like 5 blocks and 2 minutes).

Beautiful beach! Beautiful turquoise water. We took a taxi here for $5 per person from the cruise terminal on our Carnival cruise. As we walked up, several locals asked if we needed chairs and umbrellas. A man pulled 2 beach chairs onto the beach with a large umbrella shading both chairs for $60. It was worth it for my mom and daughter to have a shaded place to relax. Locals were selling lots of homemade jewelry and crafts on the beach and women were also there braiding hair. No one was too pushy. We had a great time and will go back to Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island. You could pay to rent jet skis or to ride on a banana boat here too. My daughter brought her snorkeling gear and snorkeled for several hours.

I highly recommend this beach! Less people come here and not as many people trying to sell you something. We also had a super cool experience of having fish swim around our legs if you walk to the end of the beach! I highly recommend this beach. So relaxing.

The beach is beautiful. It's not protected at all like Junkanoo Beach where you get a calm water experience so there's a higher chance you're going to get rougher waters. I actually didn't mind the vendors, if you visit with them and have a conversation rather than being a jerk you will have a lovely experience with them. Bahamian people are wonderful. I did have a major issue with the taxi set up. I understand that the Bahamians unionize drivers and keep everything organized because it is fair but I can tell you that if you're coming off a cruise ship and are taking one of the taxis offered at the port to this location, expect to be at best, underwhelmed, at worst, a little worse for wear. Compared to other areas not catering to cruise passengers where the buses and taxi's are well kept...these taxi's are barely held together with duct tape. You might find ants and other creatures living in the seats of your van. I'm not actually kidding. These cars must be parked in a field somewhere when not in use. There were actual hordes of ants coming out of the seatbelt wells. For the seatbelts that didn't work. The other incident we experience was coming off the beach where a taxi driver was trying to direct us to the taxis and I wasn't quite ready yet because I needed to get my daughter dressed and get the sand off her in the shade somewhere. The man took my avoidance as trying to usurp his taxi authority and started to verbally attack me yelling that I thought I could come to "his country" and "do what I want" and not "how things work". Thankfully a few Bahamian women intervened and got between me and him to tell him off and help us get away.

Awesome place! Me and my sister didn’t really know what to do once we got off our cruise ship. I wanted to go to the beach and she wanted to shop. So we ran into a cab driver and told him what we wanted to do and he made it happen. He took us over to cabbage beach and showed us around till we got there. Once I got there people immediately took care of me and my sister and set us up on the beach and we got a drink package where we made our own drinks as strong as we wanted! Just a laid back place. When running to the vendors and other things just know they like to hussle, so bargain with them it’s how they make their money. They usually will work some stuff out with you. I enjoyed the vibes. The water was amazing to swim in and the beach was drop dead gorgeous. I will definitely go back since this was my first trip ever and knowing what I know now, it will be even better next time! I just wish I had more time to party with the locals.

As much as I'd like to give this 5 stars I can't. I picked this beach based on the reviews and I was disappointed! The hustle was REAL for the locals trying to get your money on umbrellas, chairs and drinks. Don't waste your money on the drinks sold in the cute pineapples because they taste horrible and drinks all day means" close up and disappear within hours of getting there"
Water is beautiful but not swim friendly for the novice. No bathrooms and no food

This is probably one of the dirtiest beaches I have ever been on. Cannabis smoking is beyond a joke. The ‘local’ traders absolutely take the biscuit with their sun beds starting at $25 but if you say no they will give for $10. Pineapple drinks were 2 for $60 so also a no no!
Not there fault but the riptides are awful and almost resulted in some serious problems. Just along the beach is the Atlantis but at $250 day pass just to use the beach it was also a no! Will not be getting off the boat in this poor place again.

How is crime against tourist these days? At one point in the last few years there were warnings of muggings and violent attacks on women. Has that changed?
Written April 1, 2021
are there restaurants / bars there
Written January 19, 2020
The only restaurants are at the hotels on the beach. There is a small snack bar called “the Caves” at the beginning of the Atlantis property. Burgers, fries, ice cream, etc. I’m sure you can eat at any of the Atlantis restaurants although I read they are very expensive. There are some vendors at the public entrance to Cabbage beach but they only sell drinks and chips. They also walk the beach with cold drinks and chips for purchase. There are some other hotel properties on the other end of the beach from the Atlantis which may have restaurant options as well.

Sorry I am late following up with you. Not really. There are a few restaurants/beach bars on Cabbage beach,as well as the restaurants @ Atlantis. We did dine 1x @ Atlantis. It was nice. Mostly, we went over the bridge and ate elsewhere on the island. I hope that helps.

How much should a taxi from the cruise ship to Atlantis cost? Last time we tried to walk to the ferry but ended up grabbing a cab from somewhere off Bay St after walking quite a ways. I still paid $30 but I think I was tourist taken on that one. Maybe not though. It seemed like a short ride.
Written September 14, 2019
Last time I checked it was $5 per person.

Does anyone have a current review of Cabbage Beach for Cruise Passengers?
Written July 25, 2019
Yes! I just posted it but will add it here as well...
I found something wonderful and peaceful in Nassau!!!
Just got back from our 9th trip to Nassau and I am so excited to report that I found something worth getting off the boat for!! (That doesn’t cost a lot of money).
Cabbage Beach! It is $4 each way per person for the taxi. It is next to Atlantis so my husband just walked into the side entrance of Atlantis and I hit the beach. It is a free public beach 🎉
At first it is RIDICULOUS CROWDED when you enter the main walkway and there are vendors everywhere renting chairs and umbrellas and offering unlimited drinks. There are banana boat rides and jet ski rentals.
I just kept walking towards the empty part of the beach- (away from Atlantis) and I found the place!
No vendors - just quiet- no music- just the quiet sounds of waves.
Occasionally the activity boats pass, but they are a good ways out.
Since there are no vendors bothering you, you do need to bring your own snacks and drinks, but I will take that ANY DAY over constant interruptions 👍🏻.
We have been to Nassau about 9 or 10 times and I was about to give up on finding peace and quiet 😬
If you need frequent deliveries of icy, refreshing, libations then this may not be the place for you as you are delightfully on your own to bring beverages and snacks 😬
If you prefer no vendors then this is it 👍🏻👍🏻
I will continue to go back as often as I can. Next time it will just make sure to bring some shade with me 🙂

From the cruise terminal what is the best way to get to Cabbage Beach? Is it walkable or do you need a cab? If a cab is recommended, does anyone know the cost? Thanks!!
Written July 24, 2019
Take the taxi vans from the port for $4/pp. or the water taxi to Atlantis is also $4/pp. You can walk all the way to the far right of Atlantis inside the whole way - past where the theater is in Atlantis and it will drop you within about 50 yards to the entrance of Cabbage beach. Atlantis side entrance is on Casino Dr which is also the drive for Cabbage. I have a map to show the location but for some reason I can’t load it right here ::
