Had an amazingly awesome excursion with Blue Hole and Basil and Kathy on Friday January 17th. I arrived on the Equinox and met them at 9:15 am near Senor Frogs. It was a longer walk than I had anticipated as we were docked furthest away from the welcome center but got there just on time. Took me 20 minutes. Weather had been iffy and Kathy first emailed at 6:12 am that they would have to cancel but further scrutiny of the forecast with back and forth emails and no concern by me if bumpy on way back they agreed to go out. Glad we did as very calm seas and perfect snorkeling. We were only boat at first reef with lots of beautiful fish - schools and saw a barracuda and Basil directed me to a nice elkhorn coral formation. Second stop two other boats were there but left shortly and once again only one at that very nice reef with lovely coral. It was a good size and lots of fish there too. Saw a large crab! Great variety of fish at both stops. Very clear water first stop, slightly cloudy second at edge of reef but fine over reef.
Kathy is a great communicator. She also kindly helped me get some of my bangs out of my mask before the second snorkel that was keeping it from sealing well. She asked when I booked what size shoe I wore and they had the fins ready - I brought my own mask/snorkel. I was offered a free bottle of water.
Basil pointed out area highlights on the travel out and back and took us in for a close look at the Atlantis Resort on the return.
I am so happy I booked with them and it was the highlight of my vacation!
Thank you Kathy and Basil!

Basil took us on what ended up being a private tour[no one else booked] of 2 of the most beautiful snorkeling sites we had ever been to! Clear blue water, lots of colorful fish and corals. Basil was a great guide. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Overall, highly recommend this tour!

We booked with Blue Hole Watersports after reading the great reviews on Trip Advisor and we can report that this little company definitely provides you with friendly, professional, personalized service. From the first email to the final docking, we were impressed with every aspect these great people provided us! After struggling with a cruise ship snorkel "adventure" in previous cruises, we were pleasantly gratified to be 2 of 6 people snorkeling in pristine waters where the only fins we encountered were on the fish and not first time snorkelers who have no idea of whats around them. Mark graciously helped us out of the water, gave a little tour of the island as we went out to the dive sites. Bernice is a treasure! We look forward to bringing our families with us and booking with Blue Hole again!!! You can also book a day package with the British Colonial Hilton to use their fabulous cabanas and enjoy the beach with lunch!

Let me start by stating that I have been on several snorkeling tours around the world. This was BY FAR the worst experience I’ve had. Blue Water may be great at fishing trips but snorkeling, that’s a different story. There were four of us that went out on the “tour”. We were put in a 20 foot uncovered motorboat that has two seats. The other two of us were asked to sit on the side of the boat, one on each side. There were 2-4 foot waves that day and the boat was getting bounced around pretty good. I about fell overboard twice. I finally had to kneel on the floor and hold on. Our guide Oscar showed us the high end home of Michael Jordan and Nicholas Cage on our way out to the reef and I would have loved to take a picture, but I could steady myself enough to get to the camera let alone steady myself enough to take a picture. When we got to the reef, Oscar reached in a compartment and threw out four “one-size-fits-all” masks. The small boat was very difficult to get back in when we were through and the ride back was just as bad as the ride out to the reef. When I complained after I got home, Basil was nice enough to offer to take me out again for free if I’m ever in Nassau again. WOW. Just what I want, to go all the way back to Nassau and go out in that boat again. So, bottom line. If you want a good fishing trip, you may be at the right place based on the reviews. If you want a comfortable, safe snorkeling trip, avoid Blue Hole like the plague.

What a find this excursion turned out to be! As we walked back to our cruise ship past the crowded boats on the main pier I was so thrilled that we had found Blue Hole here on tripadvisor. Booking was a breeze - no "island time" here - I sent an email to Blue Hole inquiring about a snorkelling tour and had a return email within an hour and then a prompt phone call to confirm details and arrange payment with a very professional, easy to understand woman who was able to answer all my fussy questions. I was worried, as a group of only 2, that our tour would be potentially bumped if no one else signed up. She offered (with ZERO pressure) that if no one else had signed up we could pay for the 3rd seat and essentially have a private tour. At a rate of $55 per person ($165 for just the two of us) it would have been the cheapest private snorkel trip I can imagine!! It turned out that a single traveller did sign up, but even at full capacity Captain Basil has a very small boat and any tour he gave would be totally personal. Such a contrast to all the other tours we saw leaving the harbour.

The boat had a dry box to keep our backpacks and electronics dry as we were driven out to the snorkel site, and the Captain gave us a fascinating waterfront tour of the mansions of Paradise Island and an up close view of the yachts around Atlantis as we passed.

Arriving at the snorkel site, I was blown away. I had read on other sites that the snorkeling around Grand Bahama was underwhelming. Maybe Captain Basil knows less well known spots - we were surrounded by hundreds of fish of every colour of the rainbow and coral (fan, I think?) as big as me! It was too windy a day to go to the Captains regular second site, but before we had time to be disappointed he had taken us to a site where we could snorkel (not dive, SNORKEL!) within 5-20 feet of an old wreck on a reef with fish swimming in and out of it. Breath taking! The Captain made us feel incredibly safe and stood watching out or making helpful suggestions of things to look for, for the entire time we were in the water (ie. no checking his phone).

The tour left and returned exactly on time, was within 15 minutes walk (if that) of the cruise docks, was a great price and there was no pressure (no request for tips, or reviews - what a rarity!). It is essentially next door to Junkanoo Beach where we were able to walk and spend the rest of the day for free sunbathing, swimming and drinking $3 beer. A wonderful day, I couldn't recommend it enough!

We recently stopped in Nassau on the Disney Dream. I had researched months in advance and found Blue Hole and reserved a trip for myself, my husband, our 10 year old and 5 year old. We made the easy walk to Blue Hole but we were very concerned with how choppy the water was. Mark came out to talk to us and was completely honest with us that it would be a little more calm where we were going but that it certainly was not going to be calm. He said he wanted us to be comfortable with going out with the kids and gave us the option not to go. We were worried about the kids safety snorkeling in the choppy water and decided not to go. We thanked him for his honesty and tried to tip him, after all we felt horrible we were canceling on him. Mark would not accept our money and simply said to remember them next time we came to Nassau. What a class act that I will refer everyone to! Thanks mark and we look forward to coming back one day and snorkeling with you!

Great all the way around.

We were arriving on a cruise, and wanted to do some snorkeling. And of course avoid the "cruise" excursions. Found and read about Blue Hole.

First, it is easy walking distance from the cruise ship. You can find the hut on google earth. Very short, easy walk. So item number 1 - location - perfect. Added bonus, you go through the Hilton to get to his hut. Which means that the very clean rest rooms in lobby of Hilton are available as well.

Next, size of trip is important. This was great. We arrived early, about 8:45 for our 9:30 departure. There was one other couple there already, as their cruise ship arrived prior to ours. They told us that Basil was off looking for us - he came back just a few minutes later - probably having seen us arrive. And we were off. Our party of 3, and the other couple. So a trip with only 5 people. Boat might be able to carry 2-3 more, but that is it. This is GREAT!

Non-rushed, relaxing trip. Ever been on an excursion where you feel like the guide is like the shrinks on TV shows, looking at their watch every 2 seconds? I hate that. We never felt that at all with this trip. In fact, as we had departed early, it gave him a bit of extra time, so our 2 hour excursion ended up being about 2:15.

We got to visit two snorkeling sites. One a reef, the second a sunken boat. Lots of fish at both locations, and nobody else there - at all.

On our way back in, we passed the "cruise ship" excursion. They had just gotten started, which ruins the day starting so late. And, there were easily 30+ people in the water. Yuck. Instead, we were done in time to get back on boat for a quick shower and lunch, and off again for a walk to the straw market, the queens staircase, and a beer at sharkees. No way you get all that in if you are on a "cruise" excursion.

We were going to be in port one day on the NCL Breakaway and I wanted to book a snorkel trip. I have done the cruise line excursions in the past and it is always hustle/bustle to get there, waiting for people to show up, etc. After reading other reviews on Trip Advisor for other companies, I sent e-mails to two of them (and received very prompt replies) with questions. I decided on Blue Hole Water Sports, since the time of day of the snorkel trip was perfect for us (they have 3- morning, noon and afternoon), we chose noon and it was so close to cruise pier. The other super important thing for us was that they had a place to leave my husband's scooter while we were on the boat. Also since my husband was going as a "rider", not a snorkeler, they had a reduced rate. I have never seen that on any of the cruise snorkel excursions.

Mark greeted us at their hut and informed us we were the only reservation, so it would be a private snorkel trip. That was incredible as I would have thought they would cancel with just the two of us. The boat can hold up to 10. Since it was a small boat and it was low tide we were concerned about my husband with his limited mobility getting in and out of the boat. No problem; Mark brought the boat over to the beach and hubby was able to walk to boat, sit on side and swing legs over. We were good to go.

First we did a drive by of The Atlantis and the houses and marina along side it. Then off to the first location, by the lighthouse and gazebo. Mark called it an "appetizer" for what was to come later. It was an awesome sight. There was a catamaran there when we arrived with maybe 10-15 snorkelers in the water. After maybe 10-15 minutes when I took my head out of the water, they had left and I had it all to myself. I floated along the coral reef shelf. So many different fish, all colors and shapes. There were also some jelly fish that were cool to watch float through the water, like little clear floating umbrellas. The coral here was beautiful as well and so many different types- shapes, colors. It was a sunny day and the visibility was perfect.

Then off to the Sea Gardens. This was not to be believed. So much area to snorkel over and so much to see. I have snorkeled in Roatan, Aruba, Bermuda and now the Bahamas- this was A-1!! There was no one else there- I had it all to myself. At one point Mark threw some bread in the water and there were more fish than I have ever seen in my life!! Big, small, all colors, shapes- the big ones were jumping out of the water so my husband could see them and I watched the masses from underwater. It was incredible. If there was one downside (besides having to leave it) it was that the water was on the cool side and after 25-30 min. (about 10 min. off the allotted time to be there) I was very cold and had to get back in the boat. Blue Hole does have wet suits if needed.

Overall this is an incredible way to snorkel while in Nassau, away from the crowded cruise ship excursions. Kathy who answered all of my questions so politely and promptly via e-mail and Mark, the captain, were just so nice. I have never booked an excursion while on a cruise outside of the cruise line. This was such a great experience, very reasonable price, that I will do it again after looking at other Trip Advisor reviews.

Had a wonderful time... as experienced boaters, we were looking for a place to take a boat out by ourselves... we visited the Bahamas on our honeymoon and had returned for our 30th anniversary...Blue Water was the only place we could find that would allow us to take a boat out by ourselves... they were courteous and helped us find secluded beaches and places to snorkel that were not accompanied by 50+ people

After reading hundreds of 5 star reviews for Blue Hole Watersports, booking this snorkel trip was a no-brainier! We came in on the Carnival Fantasy cruise ship and followed the directions provided when we booked. The walk from the cruise port was short, easy and enjoyable. The Hilton has a great beach area where Blue Hole is located and they were kind enough to allow my family to use it while we waited until it was time to check in for our reservation. We arrived an hour early and Mark advised we were the only family on the boat that day, so we headed ou ahead of our scheduled time which was awesome since that gave us more time to do other things during the short 8 hours in the port. Mark was super accommodating and helped my children adjust their snorkel gear. Also, we were very thankful we booked with Blue Hole as we passed the hundreds of folks packed in like sardines on the catamaran snorkeling excursion offered by cruise ship on our way to the first stop, the sea gardens. The reef was amazing and we saw tons of beautiful fish right off the bat: Sargent majors, needlefish, Lionfish, parrotfish, trunkfish, trigger fish just to name a few! After spending about an hour checking out the gardens Mark offered us cold waters and sodas and we headed over to the shipwreck, which by the way, is another bonus for booking with blue hole. The boats they use for the cruise ship excursions are too big to navigate to this spot so we had it all to ourselves! The wreck itself was super neat and there were tons of cool hanging around too. After we had spent a good bit of time there, Mark gave us a nice little tour of the Atlantis Marina. This snorkeling excursion was definitely the highlight of our trip! My kids, 9 & 11, are still talking about it and I should note that neither of them felt nervous or anxious at snorkeling at all. You HAVE to book this if you are in Nassau!! Blue Hole Watersports did not disappoint! If we are lucky enough to ever return to the island we will definitely book again!
