About
The Bahamas Rum Cake Factory story begins in the heart of downtown Nassau, Bahamas in the year 2000. George Bates, originally from the United Kingdom founded a recipe that would inspire his “Original” Rum Cake. Everyone loved his recipe so much that he decided to open a small Rum Cake shop, a store that has since then grown into the most favorite brand of Rum Cake in The Bahamas. Today, the Bahamas Rum Cake Factory still sits in the same location it started at, and has created a culture so irresistibly delicious that in 2014 it was recognized by the state as the Official Rum Cake of The Bahamas. Loaded with our top-secret ingredients, baked to perfection, and gently marinated in our signature brand of Ole Nassau Bahamian Rum, our cakes have become not just a dessert, but also an important part of a new lifestyle for both Bahamians and tourists.

We stopped here on a tour for our cruise. It is very small and gets crowded very quickly. There is NO tour- it is just a stop and shop type place. The staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and there are many different varieties of cakes to purchase. We were given two samples- one original and one pina colada. I wish were were able to try more flavors. We probably would have bought more if we were able to sample more. The cost is $7 for a mini cake, so it can add up, and we weren't sure if we would love the flavors or not. Overall, this is something I would probably do on my own and not during a tour.

The factory/store is located about 1/2 mile from the cruise port. Very friendly staff and free samples. Many delicious varieties made fresh on premises. We found them to be larger, tastier, and cheaper than the Tortuga brand we have bought in the past.

While the store can be busy at times, it was worth the walk to visit. The ladies working in the store were fun to talk with. You can buy cakes individually or in gift packes. All are well packed in vacuum sealed bags so they are nice and moist when opened. Not too strong a rum taste. We bought four different types and while they were all good I have to say the flavours are not that strong so it was hard to distinguish their individual flavour. Beyond that, very yummy!

Came here on tour of Nassau. Tried their free samples and decided to try a variety of 4 different little cakes. We've been disappointed before purchasing Tortugas brand Rum Cakes from trying samples and finding dried out discs when we got home. So we gave it a shot. Opened one up and was pleasently surprised at how fresh tasting and high in quality these cakes were. The rum did not disappoint, it was not a weak rum cake nor was it ridiculously overly flavored with rum. This was a "Cinnamon Rum Cake" with a undertone of Coconut? My daughter and I thought so.
Our visit to the rum shop was nice, people were kind and willing to please. Shop and work area was clean and neat. Sacks of flour stored off the floor and the place looked tidy.

First off, the cakes they make here are delicious. Buy one. We also had several small free samples of different flavors. You can see the production area and some workers through some glass panels. But, in the end, it's a bakery. You've seen these. We walked from downtown, a half mile or so, and you realize this is not a great area. Abandoned buildings. Lots of trash on the ground.

We had a brief introduction and then got to sample a pecan and a piña colada rum cake. There were so many varieties and of course we bought one to take home.
Should have bought more since you can keep them for some time in and out of the fridge.

They have some sample to try, before you purchase. Definitely worth it to buy them here. Taste awesome, even for people who didn't take alcohol like me. Bought in bulk and shared with family and friends..my kids love them.

We walked here from downtown Nassau to buy some cakes to take back home with us. It is a bit of a walk, and once you get a couple of blocks away from the touristy areas, the neighborhood is run down a bit. Coming from Chicago, we're used to it, and we never felt like we were in danger or anything like that. It is a fair walk (10 to 15 minutes one way) from downtown Nassau. You can talk a taxi or a jitney bus as well.

Cakes were delicious. They come vaccum-sealed and packaged, so you can take them through airport security in a carry-on or checked baggage. The gave out free samples as well, and the cakes were delicious. Like everywhere in the Bahamas, they accept US dollars.

The building was maybe 24x20 and the cake was very high. The cake can fit into the palm of your hands.
