This 2.2-mile hiking trail is one of the best on St. John: descend through a shady, moist forest and a dry forest, through visible remains of four sugar mills, pass by pre-Columbian petroglyphs, and end at a beautiful, pristine beach.

This is well-worth the extra money and advanced sign up. Plus it gets you to the National Park Visitor's Center in Cruz Bay, an interesting collection of exhibits. Our ranger (Alanna) was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic. A fairly easy hike (a few rocky areas to...More

This is a "must do" activity. Be aware that the hiking is medium difficulty and I recommend that you bring hiking poles. They provide hiking sticks at the US Park Welcome Center. The briefing at the beginning of the trail was very good and our...More

The best and longest hike on the island with great side trips to explore nature and culture. The trail is in excellent condition.

Well worth the hike! We did the trail from Lameshur Bay to meet the Reef Bay trail instead. These are amazing!

Took the hike down and back. The trip back up seemed quite long since it was the uphill part. Ruins at the bottom and hieroglyphics were interesting. Ocean view was minimal.

3 adults and 1 eight yo went on this hike during the middle of the day. Bring plenty of water and perhaps some food if you'd like because you can get hungry in the St. John sun. The hike makes for some picturesque photo ops...More

We are in our sixties and are not experienced hikers. We made it ok going down. When we reached the bottom there was not a soul down there. We had no choice but to head back up. I don't know how we made it. We...More

In the Hiking Guide for the Virgin Islands, the Reef Bay Trail is listed as strenuous. Actually, it really is, but it's also beautiful and enjoyable because of the various sugar mill ruins along the way. As long as you plan ahead (water, good hiking...More

Going down is cool under the trees. A few steep parts in the first half mile down. The trail off to the petroglyphs is easy to miss. If you get to the next trail split sign after the wash, you have gone about 50 yards...More

After a couple of days drinking painkillers and sitting on beautiful beaches, I needed some exercise and decided a run on Reef Bay Trail would be the answer, about 5 miles. If I recall, the trail-head is right at mile marker 5 on Centerline Road...More

It's in the visitor center. When you get off the ferry, you can drive to it within 5-8 mins. Make your reservations as early as possible. The tour is pretty popular and informative. Have fun. :)
