Best Rentals on the Island (I’ve tried them all). Clean low mileage vehicles, fast response to customer questions and concerns. They have the car at the ferry and take you back on your way home. This literally saves vacation time.
On our last trip we had a flat on our rental after hours, they were there within minutes to replace the spare with a replacement tire and rim. Nobody else on the Island would have even answered the phone.

I had a great experience renting a car from Sunshine Rentals. Liston was very professional and helpful in all of our communications and the car was perfect for exploring the island. It was very clean, well maintained and easily made it up the (sometimes) crazy hills. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for vehicle to get around the beautiful island of St. John!

We have been using Sunshine's Jeep Rental since we began visiting St John in 2016. Have just concluded our 5th visit. On our first visit, as they advertised, they met us at the public ferry landing. On subsequent visits they have delivered and picked up at our resort. Every time we have made a request to change our plans, we have found their responses timely, courteous, and cooperative. Though not guaranteed, we frequently take advantage of their offer of complimentary parking in their lot when we visit the downtown area. Can't imagine staying on St John and not using a Sunshine Jeep.

This was our first time renting with Sunshine and we had a great experience with them all the way up until returning our vehicle. They were very communicative, clean cars, met us with our vehicle right at the dock, and free parking which we used several times at their location up the road a bit from the traffic circle in Cruz Bay.
However, this almost went to a 1-star review and was saved at the last minute after they called their manager. I feel compelled to write this because it really left me with a bad impression and others should know about this fee.
Upon returning my vehicle, I was told that they would charge me $100 for "excessive sand". Mind you, this is a beach destination. We didn't have sand on any of the seats. We just had sand in the back trunk where the beach chairs were stowed. And the sand left there was easily removed by just shaking out the back carpet (which was removable) and some quick vacuuming. Definitely not "excessive". We're talking maybe 1 cup or less of total sand. Then the individual that we returned our car to flipped to the tiniest of disclaimers in the agreement and pointed to the fee, saying "here, it says very clearly right here it's $100".
If there was sand EVERYWHERE....on the seats, dash, etc. and it was like a bags worth...okay, I get it. But not for normal island / beach use. I've rented jeeps with several other STJ island rental companies and left more sand than we did and never had this discussion with them.
Now, to the fee itself, if they said it was $25, I wouldn't have even blinked to be honest. But threatening us with $100 to simply shake out a rug and calling it "excessive" felt like a way to try and get more $$ out of us. By the way, the guy did just this, he shook out the rug in 5 seconds and still said we owed $100!
A note to management, if you are going to be a stickler on this fee, put huge stickers or make a big deal about it so renters know to shake everything out (which would take 5 min) or simply don't charge the fee. It's quite ridiculous when you are staying on a beach vacation and it's not super easy to find a vacuum to clean it out. Or, better define "excessive" with some type of measurement.
Threatening to enforce this feels super tacky and leaves the impression you are trying to nickel and dime your customers. Just price in cleaning for sand into your regular rental fees.
If mgmt updates their policy for future customers, I'd happily make this a 5-star review because everything else about our experience was great!

Thank you for this feedback, we do appreciate your business and all that you had to say about our company and garage team. We understand that you don't agree with the policy to possibly charge guests for excessive sand and glad to hear that management did agree with you that you should not be charged this penalty as well. We have trained the gentleman who met you to better understand what is considered "excessive" versus just a little sand in the trunk. We hope to welcome you back to St. John soon!

It was our first time to St. john. We got off the ferry with a million bags completely confused with what to do with ourselves. All of a sudden, the nicest man in the world walks up to us with the warmest greeting we’ve ever had. I know it’s just a rental car, but when your overwhelmed and stressed, the simple smile and assurance that we’re in good hands was the greatest gift we could have ever asked for. I don’t know if Liston is the owner but the way were catered to it sure seemed like it. We could not have asked for a better start to our vacation. We felt so welcomed. Thank you for everything Liston. We will remember you forever, you have a customer for life. We have many friends who we’re sending to islands in the next year, all i’m telling them is to only make sure you have Liston greeting you at the ferry and you’ll know you’ll be taken care of. Thank you again Liston i hope you realize how much we appreciate everything.

This was my third trip to St. John. Each time I rented my vehicle from Sunshine's Jeep Rental. They give me no reason to rent from anyone else. I was met at the ferry dock with the vehicle all ready to go. The vehicles are always clean and in perfect working condition. They are upfront about where external blemishes are when you do your initial check over of the vehicle. I've had bad experiences with rental car agencies (not in St. John) where they try and charge you for blemishes that they say the renter caused, even though they were existing blemishes. They tell you upfront about charges for excessive sand in the vehicle. It's common sense, and common courtesy, to return the vehicle in clean condition. When I returned the vehicle, the person at Sunshine's was truly thankful that I rented from them. You're not just a number. I will continue to rent from Sunshine's during any future trip to St. John's.

From the thorough reservation process to his friendly team meeting us at the dock with our Jeeps, it's clear Liston knows how to keep his customers happy. Our Jeeps were in great condition and performed well on St. John's steep and winding roads. Their office location made departure day a breeze. We dropped most of our crew and all the luggage off at the dock and then took the Jeeps back to Sunshine's. They offered to drive us to the dock, but it was a nice, quick and easy walk back from their office. We'll be renting from Sunshine's from now on!

Sunshine was incredible. From our initial inquiry, they gave all the information we needed and helped us feel informed in our decision. Upon arrival they made everything smooth and easy to pick up the vehicles. Friendly and helpful attitude, honesty of previous damages to the vehicle and guided us through use of each. We rented two 4-door Jeeps and the vehicles were perfect for our group of 10 and all our beach gear/suitcases. Having vehicles allowed us to explore the island the way we wanted, and we felt comfortable and safe in the Jeeps Sunshine provided. From customer service, care, vehicle safety and professionalism- sunshine Jeeps is a five stars in every category. I will be calling them next time I come back to St. John! Thanks for a wonderful experience.

Nothing else can be said except the rental was exceptional. This company kept our rental on file for 13 months past our original date which was cancelled because of COVID. When we got to St Thomas, we found that our Verizon service was useless, so we had no way to contact Sunshines, yet when we got of the ferry we were met straight away with our Jeep. So, you have to consider, we made the reservation nearly a year ahead of time, then we had to put that off for another year. This means two years after our original booking here was this man meeting us when we arrived spot on time and made the experience super easy. Super exceptional service, I cannot say enough... I am a forever customer. It took me way to long to write this write this review and I could only select June 2021, however our stay was actually in May 2021. Sunshines made our 11 day stay the best ever. Jim

We rent from Sunshine every year and they always provide top notch service. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to rent a vehicle on St.John. From vehicle pickup to dropoff, the process is always smooth and they are always available for any questions.

There was a $100 deposit when I reserved my car and they charged my credit card for the balance when I picked up the vehicle. I assume they'll accept cash or debit cards however you should contact Sunshine Jeep directly.

Just up the hill from the ferry dock by the round about. We pick you up and drop you off free of charge to the ferry.

Can I use my own insurance? The terms for not buying the $15/day insurance worry me. Does this mean if damage is done I'm held on the island, have to pay out of pocket, and get reimbursed by my insurance company?

Full coverage insurance up to $20,000 (liability, injury, property damage, medical payments, with comprehensive deductible $1000.00, collision deductable $2500.00) is available at a charge of $15.00 per day per vehicle. If Sunshine's Jeep Rental insurance is declined, renters assume all liability for any damage to the vehicle and all claims against the owner not covered by this insurance. Renter will pay for all charges up front for any repairs, before leaving the island, before the contract expires, and before the return date on the rental agreement. If vehicle is returned after the contract expires and has damages, rental agreement is still considered to be in place until the vehicle has been inspected by a Sunshine's Jeep Rental representative. Renter is still responsible for all damages.

We rented a 4 door Jeep Wrangler and it was great and roomy for the four of us. The Wrangler is built to fit 5 passengers so that number is doable but whether you consider that "comfortably" also depends on how much driving you'll be doing and the size of the back seat passengers.
