SUP Lessons on St. John St. John with its beautiful beaches and warm water is the perfect place to learn to paddleboard. With a board you can get to those unspoiled places that cannot be reached by foot or car. It is best to start in a calm bay with little waves and winds. The basic technique (paddle stroke and turns) can be learned in 1-2hours. Everybody can do it, from 5 year old kids to 70 year old seniors. If you have paddled before or want to try it on your own, we also have high quality paddle boards for rent, you can do day rentals or weekly rentals. We also rent out snorkeling gear which you can add to the paddle board rental packages (we have the new Easybreath full face masks as well as traditional masks, snorkels and fins). Or go for a night paddle with our new LED night paddles!

I can't say enough good things about Lucy and SUP St. John! We have rented from her several times over the years and this past visit we arranged to take paddle boards for the full week we were there. She took our measurements and experience levels and suggested specific boards for each of us. We had fun trying out these high quality boards. She provided the soft rack and everything needed to transport the boards, which enabled us to take them all over the island even to some of the remote south beaches and we were able to maximize our SUPing time. The website has excellent info and tips on which beaches are best for which experience levels, links to weather and wind forecasts, etc.

I reached out to Lucy at SUP St John about paddleboard yoga in Klein Bay near the villa we had rented. She was incredibly responsive and flexible to the dates and times I suggested. We met her on the beach and she instructed us through yoga on the paddleboards for an hour. The water was a bit rough, but she was a very patient instructor. It was such a relaxing way to spend the morning, and even a great workout as well! She allowed us to keep the paddleboards through the end of the day, gave great instructions for adding/releasing air if needed, how to store them, and provided life jackets so our kids could join us as well. Payment was super easy online so I didn't have to worry about paying and tipping her on the beach.

Lucy is exceptional. She helped us select the right board to rent based on our experience and plans, delivered it precisely on time, set it up for transport on our rented Jeep, and (best of all) gave us invaluable tips on the best local spots based on differing wind and weather conditions. She then was responsive and flexible when we wanted to rent a second board for a day during our week on St. John. It was a great experience, and we look forward to working with her again on our next visit to the island.

Lucy was fantastic to work with setting up our rental. Making sure we had good boards based on our experience and then being flexible when the weather changed. We will use their service next time we are back and recommend SUP St John highly

Excellent lesson from Lucy. It was my first time, Lucy explained everything from getting on the paddle board to how to paddle forward, turn, fall, get back on it and come back to the beach. She gave me detailed and clear instructions, was very helpful.
After an hour (and only one fall) she had gotten me to where I could comfortably (if not gracefully!) go around on my own.
Highly recommend to anyone who ever thought of learning how to paddle board.

Had a great SUP lesson from Lucy at Chocolate Hole.
Lucy provided stable board and expert instruction. I was quickly up and paddling and Lucy provided usable feedback on my form. Try a lesson!

The communication was great - we met up at a point on the east side of the island and were shown how to properly strap the boards down so that we could transport them ourselves to whatever bay we wanted. We then set a meet up point at the end of the day as well back at Cruz Bay. The boards themselves were well maintained, and this was such a highlight of our trip to St John. Would absolutely suggest it!!

Rented a Starboard Ace 12'6" SUP board while staying at Caneel Bay. Lucy at Rock Hoppers / SUP St.John was very accommodating and dropped off the board as well as picked it up. Lucy has the ONLY race boards on the island and if you are SUP experienced, this is the way to go. These boards are great for a speed workout or just a leisurely tour. Definitely will rent from Lucy on my next trip. She also has other boards for beginners.

We just returned from our vacation in St.John and rented two boards for the week. Lucy was very helpful in setting us up with the correct boards for our group, she delivered and picked up the boards on schedule, overall great experience! There are so many beaches to see, it was great to be able to have the boards with us wherever we went (as some of the most beautiful beaches don't have board rentals). It was a wonderful experience for our group, highly recommend!

We rented two paddle boards for a few days during our recent stay in St. John and Lucy at SUP St. John was awesome throughout the whole process. She was quick to respond to my initial email with our reservation request and very thorough in getting our heights for paddle lengths. Conveniently she even met us in a store parking lot very close to our hotel so drop off and pick up was very easy. Initially we were rented some narrower boards than we are used to using and when I asked her to switch for All around paddle boards instead Lucy was very accommodating and even offered to let us keep them an extra half day. All around very easy, low stress transactions and good quality rentals. We will definitely be back in St. John and plan to rent from her again.
