Hot breakfast, pastries, etc
Oct 2020 • Couples
We got off the 630a ferry and needed breakfast before hitting the beaches. Stopped here when they opened and grabbed some breakfast sandwiches, muffins, and snacks. Be sure to grab a butter rum muffin! Best thing ever! There was a line for the hot breakfast. Definitely a go-to spot! They gave us a bag at checkout that says “starfish market” so not sure why it’s coming up as The Marketplace, but either way, check it out!

Only Big Market Around
Mar 2020
There are not many choices for a large market on the island, but Starfish Market does have a wide selection of items in just about every category. Prices are very high, but it is an island and a top vacation spot in the Caribbean. We cooked a lot when we were on St. John and purchased some delicious marinated chicken and fresh seafood to BBQ. Produce was plentiful. I am sorry, but I had to pass up the $13.00 bag of taco chips and the equally over the top expensive soda cans. The place was clean and the employees very helpful. However, I did receive a fraud alert at midnight on the day that I shopped at the market. I used the card that day: at a restaurant and the market. So, it could have been either one.

Great for in store shopping
Feb 2020
I would recommend in store shopping only with Starfish Market. We ordered on line with specific amounts of produce and other items. When we arrived at our villa, there was a $40 difference from our order online and what was delivered. Although the delivery charge automatically populated online for Cruz Bay, we were charged an additional $10 on our bill. Larger and different portions of drinks and produce were delivered than what we ordered which resulted in an increase cost for many items. After receiving the order, I went back and look to see if there was a caveat that the market can substitute larger amounts of produce or other items but couldn't locate one. It is a great time saver but be prepared that you may have a higher cost than your online order. All the food was in excellent condition when delivered.

Expanding with better selection including alcohol
Feb 2020
Has expanded over the last year and becoming more upscale, even with an area to taste some cheese and crackers. Since the liquor store across the hall from here closed, they have stocked all the wines, beers and hard liquors that you need. There meats are very good, as is the bakery and the produce. The prices are higher than at some of the other groceries but they (for the first time in my 10+ years of shopping there) are now clearly marked. You will pay 2-4 times more that you would pay in New England for most items but picking store brands and looking for sale items will ease the pain somewhat. Junk food (soda, crackers, chips, cookies) are sky high but sticking with the basics will also help with the final bill.

Best grocery store on STJ
Nov 2019
This grocery store is well stocked and clean. The prices are higher than the US (which you would expect), but competitive for the islands. It also has plenty of parking.

Easy parking, some good deals, convenient location

We hit all the markets in the Cruz Bay area - I think. We ended up coming here the most as we most often could get what we needed. However, on occasion it appears the store gets a good run by tourists and things will be out of stock - fresh produce and frozen pizzas were most obvious to me. We went on Sunday and had to improvise on the produce selection, but returned the next day and it was all freshly stocked and we got some really good things.
We found that if we looked around we could find some good deals - meat was typically reasonable (not bacon, for example, but cuts such as pork chops or chix breasts). We got the most delicious THICK cut pork chops at the meat counter for $2.99 lb., chix leg quarters were .79¢ a lb! another day. Watch for, "manager's special" - $1.99 lb honeycrisp apples, .50¢ for cucumbers.
We never did buy frozen pizza - that was picked over our entire time. We had to wait on milk the first day. They do carry non-dairy milk and you can get the smaller cartons in the baby aisle (although never stocked while we were there). Eggs weren't too bad - brown cheaper than white which is opposite from at home for us.
St. John Market did overall have cheaper liquor but the convenience of getting it all in one stop meant we often bought stuff while at Starfish. Starfish had better pricing and better looking produce than St. John Market.
You can order pizza and other food from the deli. Not too bad pricing. Bread and buns weren't too bad either. We had good hamburger buns, brat buns and some multi-grain bread - all reasonably priced.
The fun part of Starfish is they almost always had out wine and cheese samples which added a little excitement to our stops!
Sam and Jack's Deli on the 3rd floor makes awesome sandwiches, chips, baked goods and many other things, too. Bummer is they only take cash.
FYI, they have very nice, cold bathrooms available on the first floor outside Starfish. Something to note if you've been on the road for a while :)

Grocery and mall
May 2019 • Couples
This is the primary grocery store in town. It’s pricey so pack anything you can (spices, cookies, crackers, powdered marinades & dressings, cheeses with a frozen ice pack, etc..) if you are going to cook on your own. The meats & fish are good quality & selection pretty good, the produce is plentiful but be choosey. The deli upstairs is great, go early before the beach. There is a liquor ($$$$) store across the foyer. Bring bags.

One stop shopping - Starfish market is very good
Jan 2019 • Couples
Hardware store, deli, pharmacy, grocery store - its all right here. the liquor store is now closed but they sell alcohol in the grocery store (Starfish market). The grocery is good but crowded. Bring your own bag and beware of the deli - every time that I have purchased something there I have been overcharged (by a lot!). The produce is very good. The deli (Sam and Jacks) on the third floor is great although very pricey.

Good Shopping
Jan 2019 • Couples
The Starfish market is clean and well-stocked with good selection of groceries and sundries. The deli-meat counter is excellent. They will make sandwiches to go that can be brought to the beach or home. It's a very good place for stocking up on groceries. Very much worth stopping in.
