Captain Cody was absolutely top notch on our boat charter day! The ride to Virgin Gorda was only 45 minutes on this stellar - and FAST - boat, despite heavy winds and choppy seas that were navigated with skill. No one got sick despite concerns on the outset, he really knew how to handle the waves and get us there easily. The time at the Baths was fairly short, and having to take the taxi into town instead of parking the boat right at Devil's Bay was a bit of a bummer, but currently the Customs situation at BVI is thorny and takes a long time, so the compromise is that boaters are sent to do their sightseeing while the captains deal with customs. This might get resolved in the future, so call ahead and see if its been sorted out. The Baths are interesting, but they are a cruise ship stop, so there are always guided tour groups clogging it up, and it's a really small area. The beaches on either side of it, though, are absolutely out of this world gorgeous and the cruise groups aren't supposed to wander over to them, so you can manage your time there away from them if you want to. After the Baths, lunch was on shore, followed by two more snorkel stops, and all was excellent. Cody knew the best strategy to beat the long customs lines on the way back, so that meant we had every minute of the boat time ON THE WATER, instead of waiting in line at Cruz Bay on return. The Low Key boats were new, fast, comfortable, and the staff was excellent. We would 100% do a charter day with them if we came back - it's the top recommendation I would give to anyone staying on St. John. Our hotel was so overpriced that I would actually come back to camp on the island and spend our days on boat trips and eating out, and then sleep near the beach in one of the campgrounds.

Awesome experience getting scuba certified in St John. Instructors Serenity and Alexis were very patient and made it so fun. They are true mermaids underwater! Matt was amazing helping me equalize my ears the first time diving to 40’ feet! Definitely recommend the Low Key Watersports team - their knowledge of the underwater landscape is impressive! We’ll be back!

My buddy, a local resident, and I rented the 16 ft. Whaler from Low Key for a half day snorkeling trip. Kevin from Low Key was both fun and professional before and after our trip, helped make the whole experience enjoyable and safe. The boat was in immaculate condition. I've rented quite a few boats in different places over the years and this boat was by far the highest quality and in the best condition. The snorkeling was awesome but driving and riding in the Whaler was a real pleasure, no fun turning the keys in after our 4 hour tour.

Here's what they say to customers: "We don't rent scuba tanks due to insurance." "Customers can't use our dock while shopping with us because of our insurance." "We can't find your dive form in our files" - every time! Hey, have you guys heard of keeping customers dive info in a computer? "We should charge you for the dive mask repair" - for the dive mask bought here a month ago. "We can't predict the underwater currents during our dive trips" - that almost killed an elderly man.
Avoid this place. There is a great dive shop on Red Hook. The people there care about their customers and go out of there way to make you welcome.

I have been going to the US Virgin Islands for 40 years. I have never written anything but a positive review, since I want the businesses to be successful.
However, the ethics of the Manager at Low Key Watersports is extremely questionable and I highly recommend you take your business to another place to rent scuba gear or an alternative like Cruz Bay Watersports for services.
Bottom line - the person who originally rented our equipment, specifically told us the deal. When we returned the equipment, the manager completely changed the deal and wanted (and did) charge us an additional $100. She questioned my sister and basically told her that she was lying. I then had to come to town and speak with the manager and she doubled down. Then she asked if I spent time on my holiday reading the rental agreement. OK, maybe the cashier was wrong, but while on vacation, I usually do not spend time reading legal documents, i trust the employee. The manager was completely inflexible and insulting to us.
It is vacation, I did not want to deal with someone like this, so i paid the extra money and left. However, I never plan to go back.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to spend a few weeks in St. John and was able to go on a number of dives with Low Key. Every dive was amazing ! They really know the area and all the sites, and they are the best at accommodating every level of diver. Whether you are an experienced diver or out for your very first time, Aqua, Cera, Andres, Alexis and the rest will make you wish you could stay out all day. I’m really looking forward to coming back and diving again !!!

Thank you Jenny and Morgan from Low Key Watersports! These 2 went above and beyond showing me a fantastic time on my private charter. Their professionalism, great attitude and amazing customer service kept me feeling safe and anxiety free during my first charter trip away from my MD captains. It was so nice to spend time with people who love and enjoy their job! Keep up the fun!

My husband and I rented a Boston Whaler twice during our visit to St. John. Freddy was extremely knowledgeable of the beaches and places to go to see turtles and stingrays. We were fitted and purchased snorkel gear (1000 times better than the rental equipment!). The boat was clean and in great shape. Great experience and top-notch staff! Thanks Freddy! We’ll be back!

Gerrie was GREAT! Not only did he inform us on all the tours/excursions we can do but also gave us insight about them, beyond! Gerrie was very informative with the information for different tours/excursions but was also one of the most friendliest people I’d met in St. John. Gerrie was told that I was celebrating a special day and he even gifted me something special for my day (which was a turtle pendant since I was not able to see any turtles during the time I was visiting)! Thank you Gerrie and you are a WONDERFUL person inside and outside! I will be back to book with Gerrie in my future adventures! The excursion for the Sunset Cruise was breathtaking and well worth it! Thank you all!

We had a really great day on our 16’ Super Sport. It was our last full day on the island and a great way to end our vacation. Freddy did a great job pointing out the best beach spots and giving us pointers on operating the boat - thanks Freddy!! There were 5 of us on the boat, my wife, our three teens and myself. Even my daughter who’s a little timid on the water had a great time! It truly was a memorable day.

Do you have to reserve kayaks in advance? We will be in St John at the end of Feb and are thinking about kayaking one day.
Thank you!

We do not rent kayaks but rent Boston Whalers that you can drive yourself along the North Shore of St. John as long as you have boating experience! Please give us a call for more information!

My husband and I will arrive at St. Johns, Antigua on January 5th via a cruise ship. The ship docks at 8:00 am and departs at 5:00pm. My husband and I are PADI certified divers but have not dove for 2 years. We would like to take a refresher class on the morning of Jan. 5th (to be completed by noon on the 5th if possible). Do you offer a refresher class? What would the cost be per person including dive equipment? How far are you located from the cruise ship dock?

Low Key Watersports is located on the Island of St John in the USVI, not in the capital city of St John's in Antigua. Jolly Dive Center has good reviews on TripAdvisor, you may want to check them out.

How long would you recommend renting a dinghy? We have never done it before. Is a full day too long?
Written July 1, 2016
I would recommend a half day for your first time. You will want to get used to driving a dingy and they have no shade so you are in the sun the whole time.

My family and I are headed to St John June 25 for a week. How much does it cost to rent snorkel equipment for 3 adults. Mask fins and snorkel for the week?
