Very Private Beach

Great beach - not a lot of people there and we saw a couple of turtles right off of the beach! Worth the drive to it!

Best snorkeling and quiet beach
Jun 2021
We explored many St. John beaches and snorkeling spots, and this was among our favorites. It wasn't crowded and the snorkeling was fantastic.

Longer drive, less crowded, worth the drive
Jun 2021
On the island of St. John, this is my favorite beach for many reasons. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, St. John has become very crowded with tourists. Many of the other north shore beaches have become overcrowded. Francis remains less crowded and very enjoyable. The snorkeling is some of the best on the island. Francis Bay beach is quite long, therefore less crowded. There is plenty of parking, with a possible short walk if you do not arrive early. There are a few picnic tables available, first come first serve. The drive from Cruz Bay is longer than all other north shore beaches, however it is worth it.

Simple.

Quite beach with the reef on the corner to the left. Very calm water. Nice way to spend a few hours. There was some seagrass near the shore.

Took the trail down
May 2021 • Family
We parked in the top lot and took the trail down just for something to do, though if you stay on the road there is a small parking lot right on the beach. There were several shaded spots to set up Including a picnic bench at the end of the trail as you enter the beach area that was unoccupied.

Nice place to snorkel when the other beaches are closes due tow waves
Mar 2021
We planned to go to Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bat and Hawksnest by though the wives were too high. They recommended that we drive to the "south side." We snorkeled at Francis Beach which was nice. We saw a sea turtle which was a least four feet long.

Tranquil Beach
Jan 2021
Quieter St. John's beach (decibels, numbers of people, crowds, waves) on the north side. There were about 12-15 cars in the parking area when we were there midday Jan. 29 2021, so probably some covid effects. Snorkeling is fairly good post-hurricane. There are turtles mid-bay and other fish north and south sides along rocks. Saw squid too. Not quite as renounced as some other beaches, but still very good. Also not as good for small kids as nearby Maho bay, as this one drops off more quickly and not as much sand in the small wade-able water zone. Really enjoyed the quiet and peace!

Was raining so we couldn’t get a good impression
Dec 2020 • Couples
Francis Bay was recommended to us by someone we met on the island. It was raining when we arrived so it was kinda gloomy. It was pretty but we definitely liked other beaches better. The bugs were terrible. I didn’t have trouble with bugs on any other beach.

Our favorite beach!
Nov 2020
Francis has become our favorite beach on St. John. It's super peaceful and the views are spectacular and the fish feeding in the bay are fun to watch. There are always plenty of turtles to see and the reefs along the right side are amazing. We call that area "the aquarium" because of all the fish we see. We spent two days there on this past trip and can't wait to get back.
