My very favorite... breathtaking... I could not stop looking at the beauty of this area of St.John... Away from the tourists and cruise patrons (visiting from St. Thomas), this is the place where the locals, or those wanting to get away from the crowds will go. The colors of the water range from turquoise to royal blue... and the snorkeling... More

We were somewhat disappointed in this snorkel spot after reading the reviews. In order to see anything you had to get right up next to the roots of the mangroves in barely two feet of water with long sea grass below. There were not many fish to see when we were there and it was not really worth the effort.

I got here by a chartered boat and really enjoyed it. The mangroves make for great snorkeling. If you get a boat try to get to some of the smaller nearby bays that are harder to get to by land.

This site is a must if you're looking for good snorkeling and you have enough time to do it. The corals growing with the mangroves is absolutely beautiful! So many colors of corals and sponges and sea fans and fish! I snorkeled many locations and this is my favorite so far. If you have the time and transportation definitely add... More

Arawak tour with guide Scott. BEST thing we did in St. John was snorkeling and kayaking in this bay. Snorkeling in the mangroves was a once in a lifetime experience! I saw things I never imagined I could see in person and close up! GORGEOUS! My 10 and 12 year old girls snorkeled and paddled for 6 hours with not... More

On our second trip to St. John (February 2015), a half-day trip to Hurricane Hole was a real highlight. My wife and I rented a 2-person kayak at Crabby's and threw a light lunch and some drinks onto the boat. As long as you pick a not-too-windy day, the paddle from Coral Bay is very nice. We enjoyed the magnificent... More

You know how sometimes, if everyone says the same thing, there's something to it? We chose the "do-it-yourself" route for Hurricane Hole because we wanted the freedom to choose how long to snorkel and had just done a different tour elsewhere on the island. But this is a location meant for a tour (or charter or something to get you... More

We rented a kayak at Crabby's and went over to Otter Creek at Hurricane Hole. Otter Creek is the second inlet, the one with the white buoys. Go past the buoys and tie up on a root. The snorkeling is fantastic. I could have stayed all day. There is SO MUCH coral life there and the water is very calm.... More

I never thought I wanted to snorkel the mangroves until our captain strongly suggested I try it. Very cool and an interesting change of pace from typical reef snorkeling.

Best snorkeling we found on the island, as long as you have a boat to get there. Shallow waters make for flat calm conditions, and the mangroves offer varying 'theaters' for viewing a wide variety of marine life. Watch out for the enormous urchins, but enjoy everything else.
