This beach has two faces: a quit spot to relax in a lounge chair and sip tropical drinks purchased from the beach bar; or, a sporty beach to snorkel, windsurf, sail and play volleyball. The choice is yours.

My wife and I went here on our 20th anniversary and cannot say enough good things. Friendly staff, excellent accommodations, food, and amenities. They have a great water ferry over to close by Charlotte Amalie for shopping, dining, sightseeing adventures.

Beach still closed as of 1 July 2018. Went to island from cruise ship. Unable to get taxi because they reported it was still closed due to storm damage.

Normally a beautiful beach, but unfortunately following the hurricanes last fall, the road to access Morningstar is blocked off as the hotel there is being rebuilt. My girlfriend and I wandered around for a bit looking for a walking path leading to the beach but...More

Excellent beach located on Marriott's property where the swim club is located and The Reef Hotel where the Infinity Pool is located. There are several restaurants located at that location. The beach is serene, clean beautiful water.

Small quaint beach that is part of Marriott. We snorkeled, swam and did the jet skis here. It was nice and quiet and absolutely beautiful.

Frenchmen's Reef & Morningstar Beach: which is best (1 Replies)
My friend & I will be visiting for 4 nights early December 2017. We have chosen the Marriott but are confused about what to request when booking. I've read several reviews and forum postings but am still not clear. Our main priority is cleanliness and accessibility to a nice beach (on property). We are females in our mid 70's and active, so a reasonable walk is fine. Also, as there is no way to specify when making a res, will there be a problem getting 2 beds instead of a king?

We stayed there this summer. I was confused also until I saw it in person. The main hotel lobby/bars is in Frenchmen's reef. DO NOT STAY in the Harbor wing. It is old and a dingy looking. The Morningstar are separate stand alone condo looking buildings. I think there are 8 units to a building. I only saw them from the outside. There is a beach bar and a restaurant near them and they are directly on the sand. I liked being in the main building to go down to the lobby and have drink etc. I...More

We are stopping for the day on a cruise Is it necessary to buy day passes or can we just show up and rent umbrellas and chairs In May? Does it get real crowded? Any chance they will run out of umbrellas?

You can just show up. May is off season so it should not be crowded and should have plenty of chairs and umbrellas. May is a great time to visit.

Is this part of the Marriott resort or separate?

I am booked there for February and, yes, it's part of the Marriott. I booked through Marriott website. On site there are 3 properties.....Frenchman's Cove (a timeshare property), Frenchman's Reef (the main hotel) and Morningstar, a smaller hotel property on the beach, and just down the hill from Frenchman's Reef.
