Unfortunately the two 2017 hurricanes dealt a blow to the tourism of St Thomas and the Historical Trust Museum has not been able to recover from this impact. We hope to open again when there are more visitors around to support the museum. We apologize for this inconvenience. If you are interested in The Downtown Walking Tours you can call 340-774-5541 to see if one can be arranged.

The guided walking tour of downtown Charlotte Amalie which is offered by the St. Thomas Historical Trust is a great way to see the architecture of the oldest part of the town as well as learn more about the complicated and interesting history of the island. The charge is reasonable and since the guides are volunteers, the money supports the work of the Historical Trust. Our guide, Mary Ann, was very friendly and knowledgeable and the tour was enjoyable and informative. The Historical Trust also has a tour of just the museum and has available a self-guided walking tour booklet. But I would spring for the guided tour of the historical district. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes and a hat! We asked our tour guide to recommend a place in the historical district for lunch, and one of her suggestions was the Amalia Cafe--that turned out to be a lovely restaurant with super food and good service. Best key lime pie we had in St. Thomas!

I became a fan of the St. Thomas Historical Trust Facebook page in 2015 when I received an INCREDIBLE amount of help from St. Thomians locating the former home of my grandparents [at which I vacationed several times as a child]. On the eve of alas meeting the current homeowners [who purchased the home from my grandparents in the mid-1970s] and visiting the home, my husband and I happened upon the STT Historical Trust Museum and experienced a wonderful and informative tour with Melia. Upon our return to the lovely inn where we were staying, my husband and I raved about how much we enjoyed and learned from the museum tour, shared the news of centennial t-shirts being provided with admission at this time, and encouraged the innkeeper to mention this lovely find to future guests!

We took the Historical Trust Tour on a Friday and really enjoyed it. MaryAnn Hickey led the walking tour of the Charlotte Amalie historic area which included the area around the fort and old port, the 99 steps and historical buildings and churches. We took a peek into Blackbeards tower (unfortunately closed) and enjoyed the views. The Historical Trust museum was very informative and well maintained. MaryAnn was very knowledgeable and really made the tour enjoyable. Thanks for a wonderful introduction to the history of the Virgin Islands and St. Thomas!
