Closing down but still operating
Nov 2016 • Couples
This garden may have been very good once but it is closing down because the owners cannot afford to buy chrysalis. As a consequence there are very few butterflies which was very disappointing in this tropical climate. They don't tell you any of this until you have paid your $12 per person! So be warned.

Fund visit to a fun place

Truly enjoyed my time here at The Butterfly Garden. Located right next door to the pier, it made for a fun and convenient visit. From the outside it did not look like much but do not let this fool you. This was one of the best butterfly gardens that I have ever been to. Within the are where the butterflies travel from tree to tree bush to bush it was a bright, roomy area where it was easy to move around and for me, take pictures.

They have a WONDERFUL staff here and the young lady in the gardens was helping me get some really cool picts. She was knowledgeable and made this experience a lot of fun for first timers.

They also had an interesting group of butterflies, some that I haven't photographed before and help make for a great visit. If your in St. Thomas and have some time to spare, put Butterfly world on your list of places to visit.

Unique, fun experience

Definitely worth checking out. We found our tour very interesting, beautiful & exciting (nothing quite like having a butterfly land on you while visiting...it's supposed to denote good luck). Fun for all ages, close shopping, restaurants, easy to get to.

Our visit to this garden was exceptional and breath taking. I learned so much. We could not believe how the butterflies, by the dozen would upon you and stay for quite some time. Would highly recommend this attraction for everyone especially if you have children.

The Butterfly Garden has exotic Butterflies from around the world in its central garden behind the gift shop and two other gardens branching off to either side of the gift shop with local flora and butterflies.

Worth the stop

We enjoyed this visit. We were surprised at how small it is but there were a lot of butterflies in there. The staff was very friendly and when we entered they told us to ask if we had any questions so I was expecting to find info posted or something to tell us about what we were seeing. There was one little poster that showed the butterflies that were in there but that was it. After about 30 minutes a group of school children came in and the staff did a presentation for them. We scurried over to partake of that and it was FANTASTIC! I don't know if they were just waiting on the group to do their presentation and would have done it otherwise but we were preparing to leave so I'm glad we didn't. I do wish they'd have told us they were going to do a presentation so we weren't walking around wondering what the deal was. They hours were VERY limited to only 2 days a week as they are only open on cruise ship docking days and we were not on a cruise, we flew in for a week vacation. My 84 year old mother on a scooter was also along and while it was no step in and out of the garden since the path was not hard packed sand she had difficulty getting around . But all in all it was nice.

Make sure you are attending on a cruise ship day

My husband and I were disappointed to miss seeing this attraction on our recent trip after buying tickets in advance. It isn't stated anywhere on the website or our tickets, but note that the butterfly garden is only open on days cruise ships are at port. We happened to be visiting by hotel when no cruise ships were due in. It has been 2 weeks since we requested a refund and still no contact has been made. What a disappointment!

Fun time, quick visit
Jun 2016 • Family
Visited Butterfly Garden on a Disney Cruise shore excursion with a 3yo and 7yo. We enjoyed the garden, very pretty with many butterflies. Garden is somewhat small overall so your time may go by quick. You can sit and just watch the butterflies and relax, but can get a little warm.

Staff was knowledgable and brought out many newly emerged butterflies for kids to see. Also showed group butterfly eggs and chrysalis.

Exhibit was clean and welcoming for entire family. Interior is not paved, so can be difficult with strollers and wheelchairs if ground is muddy.

Short walk from cruise ship terminal and from Señor Frogs.

I would recommend for kids.

This place was right next to where our cruise ship docked. The price was reasonable. They have some unusual butterflies and are very aware of invasive species, they have a permit from the US government. If you are lucky some butterflies may land on you for a neat photo op.

I love butterfly's!!! The butterfly's were released while we were visiting and the staff will put them on you and you can get some great pictures. We went after leaving the beach so we were still wet and the butterfly's stay on you a lot longer!! Even my boyfriend enjoyed the trip.
