Not much here

There are some shuttered buildings and a few stores but really not much to see here. If you want to get away from the crowds during the day it's fine.

You think the vendors on Main Street are aggressive, wait until you get to Back Street. I understand that they're trying to make a living but I'm just not that desperate of a shopper. I was site seeing! Best to stay on Front Street and then work your way in. Avoid this area at all cost unless you're a serious... More

The food here is usually phenomenal, if you're looking for local west indie food this is the right place be. But today the food AND service was terrible. I ordered conch with veg and cabbage, the conch was chewy and there was more onions than conch. The veg looked like something I could have done at home, there were more... More

The downtown area of Charlotte Amalie is not just tourist shopping. There is also much history. Old buildings have been saved and turned into local use such as restaurants. Back Street is one such area. The area houses one of the best local restaurants, Cuzzin's. You can find all things local to eat there. Another West Indian restaurant, Trenchtown Rock,... More

Great atmosphere, good drinks & WIFI. Also this little bar was ran by friends of one of our travelers, she attended college with them in the Midwest. Service & food was good too.

With the main Post Office on one end, and Market Square on the other, this street also offers many interesting shops, but like the other streets in the downtown area, becomes closed and shuttered at 5:00PM each day. Near the east end, there is MBW bakery and deli, where the sandwiches are large and tasty, served with homemade chips, with... More

A way to avoid the crowds of cruise-folk, and find some neat little places to dine and shop as you go. Don't let its less-than-glitzy appearance keep you from exploring; just do so in the daylight hours.

An area to avoid especially if walking alone and at night. Most shopping is on Main St. or the Waterfront. Long ago it was a nice shopping area as well, but much has changed.

Back Street, also known as Wimmelskafts Gade, is one block further north, away from the water front, than Main Street which is the main shopping area in historic, downtown Charlotte Amalie. I seem to remember during my first visit to Charlotte Amalie a couple of decades ago that there were shops in the old, historic buildings along Back Street but... More
