Well designed tour - introductory narrative is engaging and sets the tone for the tour. Self-guided, with docents at each stop. This is the only way to see the historic buildings and hotel (which is no longer operating as a hotel) - the tower provides a great view of the harbour. Bring your bathing suit -there are 2 pools you... More

we hit the 99 steps and the did blackbeards castle. it was quite a trek up to the castle but well worth it! the castle itself was pretty amazing and the views were astounding. there was a bar and pool next to the castle that you could take advantage of and of course my husband took advantage of both. the... This place was, to me, a real dichotomy. On the on hand, you had Blackbeard's Castle - an old tower visible from various observation points around the Island, and all the fascinating pirate history associated with it - and right in front of it, a modern swimming pool. We were on a round the island tour booked and paid for... More

If you have a short time during cruise, just visit this first. You can the beauty of St. Thomas and still have time to walk around downtown. Especially if you and your other half will shop for Jewelry. Love the service from Effy jewelry and Diamond International (ask for Kirby), they are not pushing to buy.

This is mostly a photo op and a tourist site. A climb to the top of the tower and lots of souvenirs and places to eat. It is a pretty area with nice walks and old houses to see. If you are lucky, your tour will drop you at the top and you can walk down the 99 steps back... More

Pirate tour guide gives a very entertaining story of Blackbeard. Several historic houses are also included in the price of $12. Could just skip the fee and walk the houses on your own. No one asked for proof of payment once we left Blackbeard's Castle. If you like history, you will love this tour. Can take as long as you want... More

The tour (12/person) starts at the top of the hill in which an enthusiastic tour guide tells you a little about Blackbeard the pirate before you go up in the tower to see the lovely views of the harbor. The tour continues downhill through 2 old homes with some vintage and antique furniture belonging to minor historical figures then a... More

We went to the castle and listened to the tales of our current Blackbeard by the bronze statue of the character who terrorized the seas. He really did a lot of damage in his short life but became larger in life with tales of his exploits. We climbed up into his lookout tower and then visited historic homes while we... More

As a child I always loved pirates, and to be at one of the greatest pirate castles was fantastic. You got to learn all about Blackbeard and how he became famous. The view was also stunning.

Dragged my wife up 99 Stairs to Skytsborg Tower and then up the tower. She's not the most active person, and she was wearing flip flops, but was still OK with the climb once she saw the view. Now that's saying something! Tons of history here. Fort Skytsborg was built by the Danes in the 17th century to aid Fort... More
