Our first day in St. Thomas, we explored downtown Charlotte Amalie, then took the 99+ steps up to the Castle and joined the self-guided tour. Wow, the views up there are amazing! Really enjoyed meeting Blackbeard (though apparently other pirates, but not he, actually visited the island), and hearing about the history of St. Thomas as we wended our way... More

Our family of 5 (including children, 12, 10 and 6 years) walked up the 99 steps to the Tower and were pleasantly surprised by the experience on offer. The entry fee was only charged for the 2 adults, the children being free, and it covered not only the Tower but also a series of other buildings visited after the Tower... More

Upon purchasing our tickets, we were greeted by a performing artist dressed as a pirate giving a rendition of the death of Blackbeard the pirate. After the 10 minute performance we went up to blackbeards castle for a good vantage point over charlotte Amalie. Follow the self guided tour through two houses below blackbeards lookout to get back to downtown.... More

Beautiful, Staff is full of interesting information and very kind. View from the top is amazing. The spiral stairs might be difficult for some to climb, but well worth it. .

Experienced Blackbeard's Castle just last week while on a cruise with a group of friends (all mid 20s). We did not book the tour in advance and had zero problems getting a spot. I would highly recommend this if stopping in St. Thomas on a cruise. It's only about a 1.5 mile walk to site from ship port. If walking... More

We were given bad advice by passersby to skip the 99 steps and go around the streets to get to this attraction. It was all uphill and a long way, without a handrail, and it about killed my 84 year old mother who could have climbed the real steps much easier. The staff was WONDERFUL, helping us to get Grandma... More

Vaca 2016 dec First let me say that the pirate that narrates the story of black beard was the best part of this excursion. His dramatization lasted about 5 mins and it quickly went down hill literally and figuratively after that. "Black beard's castle " is one short tower...... the end. The rest of the premises has nothing to do... More

Not exactly a castle in the storybook sense, but a fun place to visit. The guy that gave us the history of Blackbeard was incredible. The castle part is just a lookout tower, but the pirate museum and the old tavern at the end of the tour are worth the visit.

Visited the castle as part of an excursion through the cruise ship. Enjoyed the historic site and learning some history about blackbeard and the island. View from the top of the tower was excellent. Had excellent blackbeards revenge cocktail at the bar before descending the 99 steps. The tour was rated a 3 for intensity through the cruise ship so i... More

NOTE: This review is only for the "Castle", not the other homes included in the walking tour. The Blackbeard connection is clearly much hyped to get the tourists to come in off the cruise ship.. but the reality is there isn't any proof that Blackbeard even stepped foot in the place. The tower itself consists of a bunch of circular... More

We are sorry you were not able to take advantage of the whole tour. You mentioned that you only took part in the first part of the tour, which is wonderful, but there is so much more for the price of admission. There are several other historic landmark properties you were not able to see -the beautiful Villa Notman (1860),... More
