About Catania Charters
Built in Essex, England in 1938, of select Burmese teak, English oak and bronze, Catania was designed in the nautical style of the day... long and lean. Exceptional English shipwrights constructed her with awesome attention to detail. Details such as dovetail joints and hand lathed bronze screws that you do not see in modern boats. She is uniquely one of a kind and is a "Yacht" in the truest sense of the word. She is graceful, elegant and swift, and her extraordinary lines belie her length of 40 feet. In 2010 Catania began a complete overhaul under the watchful eye of Ocean Petersen. With her restoration complete, she is ready to sail on a moments notice. As stunning as ever, with nostalgic lines, beautiful teak cockpit and accents, Catania is the definition of classic elegance. Anchored in the clear waters of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, she is available to charter for up to six guests. Treat yourself to an unforgettable sail aboard the Classic Wooden Yacht Catania.

We chartered the Catania for a private sail, four of us. In a word, awesome Ocean and his families story is amazing. The yacht is beautiful and has history of its own. After a short ride by both motor and sail (wind wasn’t up enough for pure sail) a couple cocktails and many stories on the history of the islands and Ocean’s family story, we found ourselves at Caneel Bay Beach on St John all by ourselves. Not another soul nearby. Ocean provided snorkeling gear and the four of us spent a little over an hour in the super clear waters. Then back to the boat for lunch of chicken, Caesar salad with homemade dressing, amazing chickpea salad, really great potato salad and more drinks We passed on another snorkeling site in exchange for some actual sailing and hanging out with Ocean It was a great day. And highly recommended.

Captain Ocean was one of the highlights of my family's trip to the USVI. His stories and knowledge, along with his great personality made it easy to relax and just enjoy the day. On our trip we actually encounter a pod of dolphins , which made the day that much more memorable. Ocean also made sure our 8 year old son was included, that he had what he needed, teaching him about the area, answering his questions, and even offering him a job when he gets older (my son said he wanted to do what Ocean does). On our trip, we were provided lunch, which was light, refreshing, and delicious. I would absolutely book with Ocean again-in fact, we are already talking about the next trip and want to make sure Ocean is a part of it.

Ocean was a terrific guide/captain on the beautiful 40 foot Catania. He had a wealth of great stories, took us to some beautiful spots, and provided a terrific lunch. Would absolutely recommend Catania to anyone.
