This was my 3rd fishing trip and my biggest learning so far is a good Captain makes the difference, so find a Captain you like and stick with him. Captain Rob is that guy. He has the right level of experience (28 years) and personality to provide a safe and fun filled trip. My buddy and I booked a 1/2 day trip and we had a great time. Rob knew how to manage the “sporty” conditions and took us to spots that were tolerable and delivered. We caught a variety of fish throughout our 4 hour trip and took home tons of fish which he expertly filleted for us. I’m sure fishing charters are a dime a dozen down here but remember, “A Good Captain Makes The Difference”.

I have to tell you what a great time we had with Capt Eric!! He was very professional the entire time. We knew going in that’s it’s called fishing and not catching for a reason! So we were looking forward to a beautiful day on the water regardless.

Eric took us off shore and right away we knew that he was on a mission. The mission was to show us a great time. He shared his vast knowledge and explained everything he was doing. We had four adults, my eleven year old daughter and fourteen year old son.

It was a little rough out there until we got set up. However, it’s the ocean and we were in great hands! He was ever diligent and extremely patient.. and as luck or maybe not luck would have it, it payed off huge.. (see the attached picture). That’s a 5’1” approx. 60+ lb wahoo! Again, we understand we may not catch the same type next year when we book a trip with them again. It’s about the entire experience, not what you do and do not catch. He was very attentive in getting the kids involved as well.

He hustled the entire time, changing bait types, dropping multiple lines, answering questions, calculating the best locations.. etc.

Once caught, he took and set up multiple pictures with us and the fish we caught. When back inshore, he professionally filleted and cleaned the fish for us.

Can’t say enough about how wonderful the entire experience was from the ease of booking the trip to the very end of the day. We will be back to St John next year and will be booking with them again.

You catch a big fish! You catch a big fish! Everyone catches a big fish with Captain Rob at Mixed Bag Sportfishing in St. Thomas. CPT Rob will provide you with the best day of your vacation. He has the fishing hack and will share it with you and your family on your trip. Expert captain and an even better deep sea fishing guide. We will definitely be back! His boat is powerful and can handle any challenge.

Captain Hugo was the best. From the start, he asked our expectations for catch, told us options and then set the course. We had an amazing day. We caught yellowtail, black tail, skipjack, a barracuda and ended with a fight in the chair Captain Hugo clearly called a shark which was a shark. He was great with our teenaged sons and indulged us in some island knowledge as we asked questions about everything. At the end, he filleted our catch and we had amazing fresh tuna for our dinners on St. John. We have done charters all over for fishing trips and this was a memorable and funday for our family. Captain Hugo is quiet until you talk to him. I think he respects boundaries but once you break them, he opens up and knows so much about the USVI wildlife (legit us “what’s that bird? Or that one? Why are they so far out? Have you caught a bird?), why sharks will eat your catch if you don’t reel it in on time, and overall was a wonderful source of information. We will ask for Captain Hugo by name next time and highly recommend Mixed Bag 2. Thanks for a wonderful day!

I called Captain Rob to book a fishing trip. When he explained what all was included, it’s important not to take things at face value, he said they would filet up to 30 lbs of your fish and the boat keeps the rest. So if I paid $600, $900 or whatever, why would I give any up the fish I caught to the boat? Captain Rob claims that is the norm down in the USVI and maybe it is. Stateside I don’t think it’s normal at all for the boat to keep any of the fish you paid to catch, I’m just glad I got clarity before I booked or went on the trip. Some folks may be perfectly fine giving away their fish, but I believe it should be up to the customer how much, if any fish the want to give to the boat.
I declined to book a trip due to this one thing. I have no doubt that Captain Rob can put you on the fish and you’ll have a great time. Just know the facts and book your trip with eyes wide open.

You want a review, ill give you a review from one charter captain to another. Oh if you can't tell I'm a charter captain as well, in South Carolina. Capt. Rob, thank you, my parents, my oldest son, and I had a great day with you today, April 16, 2021, the seas were a bit choppy, uh oh wait thats offshore fishing for you. The bite wasn't crazy busy, uh oh, that's why it's called fishing not catching, but boy when the whales showed up, and the spinner dolphin showed up, I didn't care at that point if we went home or stayed out longer that whale was worth it all. Fortunately for us in the bottom of the 9th inning after catching 2 Cudas we had a nice school of yellow fin roll through and hooked up on 3, and the taxman got 2 but we managed to haul in number 3. Rob thank you so much. And I will see you again in the future and we will talk about that job offer. Thanks a million my friend. Awesome day. Oh yeah tell Eric I said hello.

Captain Doug....yes I said Captain

We had the perfect start to our family vacation. Spent the first day fishing at the North Drop with Captain Eric. We caught Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Barracuda and a fun bonus of an African Pompano. Captain Eric stopped filleting when we spotted the pompano and quickly had a line in the water. He went above and beyond to see to it that we had an outstanding day on the water. He is very knowledgeable and personable! We caught enough fish for 6 people to enjoy three meals, plus we shared with two others!!

We had a fantastic time with Rob. With rockin’ and rollin’ waves we were expertly guided onto some great Mahi and black fun Tuna. Rob cleaned them for us and we enjoyed a fantastic fresh ceviche dinner in our villa that evening. Rob was entertaining and fun to be with!

Went on the 32ft boat with Captain Lawrence, it was completely amazing! He is so incredibly awesome to work with while helping fish. His enthusiasm excited all of us. We love ocean fishing at home but this was a completely different experience. Catching Mahi-mahi was very exciting as they jumped out of the water. Lawrence even helped my 18 yr old son break his fishing curse! He encourage all of us to reel in fighting fish. Definitely a trip worth every penny.

We had a wonderful 1/2 fishing adventure with Captain Eric. Our grandsons ages 8 and 13 caught Mahi-Mahi, Grouper, Barracuda, Trigger fish and more. He work very hard finding the best fishing spots. He didn’t have any down time as he was trying to give us the best fishing experience possible, which he did. We had enough fish to feed 6 people for 4 days. Captain Eric created some great memories for us. Thank you so much!
