I had a wonderful and memorable day thanks to the knowledgeable and caring staff at DaySail Fantasy.
The excursion I went on really let me experience all of the natural beauty St Thomas has to offer. As a chef, I appreciated the thought and care put into the food prepared for me and I was very interested in the history the captain shared about the dish.
What stands out the most to me was how the captain went above and beyond by going on an island to pick fresh aloe vera for my knee that I cut on some coral. I am inexperienced at sailing and snorkeling and really felt comfortable and that my needs were anticipated and met by the crew.
If the captain brings his fury co-captain Calypso, enjoy the puppy cuddles she’s a wonderful pup.

Thanks for the kind words! The historically-inspired "Taino Triple" salad that you enjoyed hasn't been so popular with some other guests, so we've swapped that out for Patacanas - at least until we can develop another unique Caribbean-themed side. I felt terrible about your knee! We are very attentive to guest safety and proximity to stinging corals and urchins but when accidents happen, we are definitely going to take care of you.

Very kind and considerate Captain. He’s also a great cook. The crew made us feel like we were a part of the family. We did have a moment of trepidation when my family of not so good swimmers got caught in a riptide. Our fearless captain wasted no time in jumping in to save us and making sure we were well taken care of afterwards. I would definitely book with them again! 12/10 would recommend.

I’ve sailed all my life and I always look forward to a sailing trip in the USVI. I sailed with Fantasy a few times when Pam owned it so I was concerned when I learned that she had sold the business, but I booked a full day with Captain Darren, Sara and Jalil who bought the business from Pam and I could not be happier. They were awesome and the boat is bigger, better suited to cruising and comfortable. Sara was very easy to contact and work with on scheduling (we had to change days last minute and it was no problem). Captain Darren is easy to talk with and let me take the helm for parts of the trip. Oh, and he insists on making the drinks. Try their signature flavored rum, dark rum, soda water, and lime. AWESOME. Wish I could remember what it’s called. Darren is also an excellent sailor. He communicates well with crew and I could tell they had our safety in mind as they worked. We had one seasick crew and Darren minimized his suffering by sailing smart and using motor assist to get quickly to calmer waters. However, The highlight of the trip was first mate Jalil. This guy was amazing. He must have advanced degrees in Island history, pirate culture, botany, birds, fish, all sea creatures, sailing and anything else you would like to know. And at lunch Jalil goes down below and makes the best fish tacos I’ve ever had so he can cook too!! The conversations between their crew and my crew never even slowed down the whole 8 hours out there. We learned a lot. Snorkeling was good, saw turtles on Buck Island. Food was great and we will definitely book them again. TIP: Take Dramamine one hour before you go and bring it with you.
I’d love to share a pic but TripAdvisor only allows taking pics now and not accessing my photos. Sorry.

This is really a day of snorkeling, not a sailing trip.

Here’s what Daysail Fantasy's website promises, & here’s what you get for $140 per person (plus tip!)

• Open Bar ~ Fantastic Rum Punches!
NOT! Told no alcoholic beverages would be served until AFTER first snorkel stop ended (no drinks served from 9:30am-12:30pm). The guests we sailed with agreed that there was little or no rum in any of the drinks served for duration of trip. We were not offered anything besides OJ.

• Snorkel Gear & Expert Lessons
NOT! No lessons were provided and neither the captain nor cook/bartender got in water (however a different sailboat excursion moored near us included a guide who swam with the guests, and pointed out all of the sealife, turtles to his group, etc.) Stern warning provided by our captain not to drop the mask provided or you would pay for it.

• Delicious Hot Caribbean Lunch
NOT! Awful lunch of rice and greasy sautéed yellow squash, zucchini, carrots, and a few baby shrimp from frozen shimp package, green salad, bread, and 1 cookie per person.

• Special Floats for non swimmers –
NOT! They provided old life preservers placed under arms. If I were a non-swimmer or not a good swimmer, I’d be terrified.

• Permanent Shade Bimini –
Guests were "encouraged" to sit in front of boat, not in cockpit under bimini with the captain.

• Trolling & Fishing Gear – 1 fishing pole was provided behind our boat.
• Fresh Water Rinse – never mentioned or offered on entire trip

• Dinghy Trips to the Beaches – not offered. We were dropped off in 25 feet of water and told at both of 2 snorkling stops not to go to shore as we were too far out.

• Custom Tailored Day – captain went to 2 bays of her choosing on west side of island. Guests had no input into where boat would go and she said she decides wherever she feels like going that day.

• Maximum of Six Guests – true – boat doesn’t hold more than 5 people + captain in cockpit.

• Romantic Island Music
NOT! Music played quietly in cabin but couldn’t be heard on deck for entire trip.

• Minimum of Two to sign up – true

• Personalized Guided Snorkel Tour
NOT! Never provided, boat moored in 2 bays and they pointed us to the reefs and told us to swim in a certain direction so we didn’t have to fight the current to get back to the boat moored a couple hundred feet away

• Easy Access Swim Ladder – bends in middle, easy to pinch fingers while climbing up on boat

• Other: Told not to flush the toilet regardless of situation. Said they would flush for us after going. Could be quite awkward if you know what I mean…

Captain asked guests repeatedly how we found her, and to be sure to give them great reviews, etc. etc.

Sadly I'd love to give a great review, but they promise the Ritz but provide HoJo instead. They should focus more on the overall experience (better meal, legit drinks, sailing around the island).

I'm very interested in Michael L's comment about his bank account, since guests are required to give a bank card to book.

Dear Flying Fast, Thank you for your review. We always encourage our guests to write to let us know how we can improve and I will respond to your complaints point by point. 1) Open bar: Yes, we have an open bar and we offer pineapple orange juice, V8 tomato juice, bottled water, coke, diet coke, and sprite when you board the boat, but our National Park permit strictly prohibits the serving of alcohol before snorkeling. 2) When we distribute the snorkel gear, we make sure it fits properly and demonstrate the use of the gear and ask if anyone has not snorkeled before. 3) Our lunch is a vegetable stir fry with or without shrimp served on Basmati rice with a large garden salad, fresh french bread with butter and dessert of large oatmeal raison cookies. Most of our guests love our healthy lunch and there's plenty of shrimp for everyone who wants them. 4)Our floats are a huge hit with all of our snorkelers, both swimmers and non swimmers, and they are optional and i say that when i am demonstrating the use of the gear. 5) We have a large shade bimini over the entire cockpit and guests are welcome there any time. We do encourage the guests to head out on deck when we pull out the sails and then are invited to return at any time. 6) We have a fishing rod for trolling while under sail. Anyone is permitted to fish or it can sit in the rod holder until a fish is caught and then whoever wants to reel it in may do so. 7) Fresh water rinse is available on the back by the ladder. 8) Dingy trips to the beach are offered when there are non swimmers or small children who don't want to snorkel off the boat. There are so many turtles and rays right under the boat at anchor that most choose to snorkel directly from the boat. 9) Custom tailored day: We do our best to take you to the most beautiful beaches we can in the time allotted. We sail, we snorkel, we serve a hot lunch, we take you to a second location, and then we sail back to St. Thomas and the locations are all chosen depending on wind, currents, the guests snorkel abilities and the time involved in getting there and back. 10) Romantic music: The stereo is on all day long. Going to windward, it is not possible to hear it with the wind in your ears. You are welcome to bring your own iPod and play your music. 11) Personalized snorkel tour upon request. The mate is very happy to take the guests on a guided tour, but most prefer to explore on their own. 12) We have a deep water ladder that does bend in the middle and the guests are individually advised whenever they come to the ladder to not place their hands near the hinges. 13)The cockpit is large enough for lunch with six guests. 14) Most guests have never flushed a marine head. There are pumps, valves and handles that all do different things. We are happy to do it for you. We work very hard to show our guests the best day possible but if you're bound and determined to find fault, I'm sure we all have them. Thank you for your time. Capt. Pam

I have really struggled with what to say on this review. This wasn't a horrible day but it was not what we were sold. After 3 emails from Capt Pam we thought that we would be served fantastic Bloody Mary's, listen to Jimmy Buffet, sail and snorkel. We did sail and snorkel but we were offered a total of two drinks on board - one water and one rum punch at lunch. We are not big drinkers but we did expect a bit more. Lunch was okay but I am not a fan of canned shrimp. Torq was wonderful as he has vast knowledge of the area and was actually the best part of the day. I don't really feel we got our money's worth on this day trip and would recommend shopping around.

I was eager to get on board after the glowing reviews. The boat was okay but we had little room to sit. As far as the rum punch it was a poor mans punch nothing great and the food was the same. The rice was dry and tasteless. The snorkeling was great but I am sure I could have enjoyed the snorkeling on any other boat that tried a little harder

I did not initially plan on booking with DaySail Fantasy, but Pam was recommended by so I ignored some of the reviews posted here. Pam was very responsive and kind during set up process and answered all of my questions. We did not really want to snorkle/swim around much -- really wanted a sailing trip. She ensured me that the day was about us and it would be great and would have a max of one other couple.
This is not what it turned out to be.... sailing was minimal and boat was pretty crowded with 6 people on board ( 8 total for a 36' boat -- which is too many based on my sailing experience).
I did appreciate Pam and her 1st mate Torq were all about safety and were very helpul to all passengers. However - Pam bordered on a bit militant at times. I also felt it was extremely tacky and unprofessional to ask for a tip not once but 2-3 times. We were all Americans on the boat --so we get the concept of tipping. This felt disningenuous. My tip was 100% for Torq and all of his hard work and service to all of the passengers.
I have nothing be wonderful things to say about Torq - he made the trip for us - great conversation, history, geography/ info about the islands, and helpful hints for getting off/on boat and maneuvering around.
The open bar/ food was a bit of a rip off..... really gave the impression she was trying to be as cheap as possible to maximize her profits. A sad "saute" of still almost raw veggies, 2-3 very small shrimp. Not worth it.
I really feel like our $$ would have been spent much better elsewhere.

My husband booked this trip with Capt. Pam when we were visiting St Thomas back in March. The scenery was beautiful but the snorkeling was not the best as the spot we stopped off of St John was in the wind which made for quite the swim along with the sand being stirred up once we got in to the reef. She made lunch for us, which was good but I don't usually like curry and it was lacking a bit of seasoning. We also had rum punch (I think that is what it was); although they were not very stiff with rum. The best part about the trip is my husband and I were the only guests on the boat, which I think the boat was well-suited for 4 people but not many more.

Our family (my husband, two teen daughters and I) had a wonderful day with Captain Pam and her friend (also a Captain)! We sailed from St. Thomas to St. John where we spent time snorkeling in two great locations. In between our time in the water we had a delicious lunch: vegetable shrimp stir-fry on basmati rice with a tossed salad and warm rolls, and a cookie for desert. We had perfect weather for sailing, and learned a bit of interesting history as we explored the region. If you want a tour that feels more like you’ve joined good friends on their boat for a day of sailing and exploring, definitely give Pam a call.

We visited St thomas in Feb 2012. Our daysail with Captain Pam & her first mate was the highlight of our visit. Be sure to bring your sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, & snorkel gear. We began and ended our day very relaxed. We were supposed to go to St John National Park - but it was raining there - we could see it in the distance -no worries, no sweat, we turned right, found the sun and calm waters. It was the first time my husband had ever snorkeled. ( We are not teenagers) Captain Pam's calm approach, easy lesson, and her assistive floatation device made him look like a pro. Her first mate ( I apologize for not remembering his name) manned our cameras to be sure we had photos to remember our day. We saw so many beautifil fish, some squid, an eel, and huge coral formations. I also have a photo of a small school of fish swimming right along with my husband - priceless ! Back aboard, for a home-cooked delightful lunch, a great Bloody Mary, & the sounds of Jimmy Buffet beckoning us to do more. We sailed to another area to snorkel - there were so many beautiful things to see - we wished we could have stayed longer, and sail with her again & again. On our return to the Ferry docks, we were under sail power nearly all the way.The smooth relaxing sail, and the sun moving over the area is something I will remember for years to come. The price was extremely reasonalble, it was the single most relaxing thing we did our entire visit. I highly recommend that you book passage with her, or at be in touch with her via e-mail, in advance of your arrival to the Island - as she only takes 6 passengers at a time-this would be wonderful to do with your family. Thank you Captain Pam for memories that will last a lifetime!
