Located just minutes from the Charlotte Amalie Lookout, this breathtaking scenic point provides panoramic views of Magens Bay and the islands. There are a limited number of parking spots available. The green weathered bench seat is across the street (be careful crossing the road). The local legend is that Sir Francis Drake used this vantage point to watch his fleet and be on the lookout for the enemy. It is a great story, but the truth is that Drake’s Seat was built in 1933 by Arthur Fairchild. Mr. Fairchild was a former wall street genius, philanthropist (he is the one that gifted the land at Magens Bay to the people) and longtime island resident. Back in the 1930s, travelling the hilly terrain of St. Thomas was by horse or foot. The location of Drake’s Seat was the perfect place to rest and gaze down at Megans Bay. And it still is today! You’ll get a more expansive panorama from Mountain Top, but I love this view too. The Charlotte Amalie Lookout, Drake’s Seat, Mountain Top and Megans Bay can all be visited in the same trip.

I was born and raised in St. Thomas and have always loved bringing visiting friends n family to this scenic spot. It is easy to access and you get unbelievable views of the north side of the island, Magans Bay and down island to the BVI. I love coming here in the late afternoon when it is quiet and just sitting and looking out at the view. You can often hear parrots(native parakeets) and see and hear other birds flying above. Was there last week and saw a really cool red tailed hawk. A quick three minute drive away and you can see the sunset from the scenic overlook at the end of skyline drive. After a day at Magans Bay it is the perfect stop off to enjoy the view.

Excellent place to stop and take a picture overlooking Magens Bay. Parking is very limited there but everyone quickly moves on because there's not anything else up there other than to take a picture of Magens Bay. The view is breathtaking though. Definitely worth a stop if you are going to Magens.

What a view. A tour to just see this spot ? No, probably would not book that trip. It is a bench along side a major road with an AWESOME view north of the island. But, with a car, I would be sure to make a special trip to see THE VIEW. Sir Drake could not have picked a more strategic place to keep a eye on all ship movements around the island. Plus, major routes abound to send and recieve messages everywhere.

Cuz you might miss it. We almost did a second time if it weren’t for a couple of locals visiting as well. Yes it’s a seat but you could see why it’s just a seat. The look out was as far as the eye could see. Amazing, breathtaking, and bright. I wish I had a scope to look beyond my plain sight. Not every day you get those views. Take as long or as short as you want, because one day it might just all be gone again like Mike(one of the locals) said. It was all washed away. But it all comes back, longer in time or shorter in time. It’s how we treat our Mother Nature.

Did not go on a tour. We just drove to Drakes Seat and enjoyed the view. The view was really nice of the islands and Magens Bay. If you get the right angle you can take really nice photos. If you you have a car I do recommend that you visit this location. If you do not have a car you don’t have to do this.

Beautiful few to take pictures. The seat is right behind the road where you park. Only few parking spaces there. Picture from the seat is best although may have cars in the pictures. Good for quick 10 minute stop!

We stopped here on our way to Mountain Top. It's a really impressive view! We enjoyed the donkey that was there for photos as well. Be careful when crossing the road to see Drake's Seat. Hard to see traffic both ways.

If you want to see Magens bay in peace come here and park your car. When the tourists arrive be prepared to lose the peace.

Was a neat little piece of history tucked along the winding mountain road. Loved the view, but the scruffy guy with the scraggly donkey that was charging $20 for a photo could have just skipped it..
