Estate Whim has long been known for its colonial-era Great House, slave quarters, and mill factory complex; but much more can be found on the museum’s twelve acres. Various museum exhibits include My Granny House, the Living Museum, and rotating exhibits in the North and South Exhibit Halls. Also located on the museum’s grounds is the Research Library & Archives, where visitors can conduct genealogical and historical research and purchase photographs from our unique photograph collection.

We like mixing history and culture with recreation on our trips. Whim disappointed. The buildings and mill structures were interesting to see but we're poorly marked and little explanation was provided. Could be an excellent outing if more of the "story" was shared. If only...More

It was very interesting hearing about the estate and the great house from a local - Miss Margaret. The tour does not take very long. If it is open, see the library and genealogy area. They were VERY interesting.

Had a great self-guided tour of property. Tons of information on the history of the island. There is a lot of old windmill parts and artifacts on how the sugarcane was processsed back in the day. Very interesting.

A tour that takes 2 hours that gives visitors a real look in the past of sugar milling. Very well maintained grounds and building. The museum also includes research opportunities.

Went on guided tour of mansion. Was very knowledgeable and interesting. Very beautiful. Also the gardens in the back of mansion were beautiful as well. They even had a sugar mill on sight. If your into history of St Croix this is a must see....More

Our tour guide Sonya Dow was so passionate and knowledgeable about the museum and this made our experience that more meaningful. We got to walk thru exhibits that featured items that were over 200 years old.

Whim is full of plantation, slavery and sugar mill history. There are several buildings on the property to view and although there's no air conditioning it's worth the $10 visit. We ate tradional island fish and fungi which was pretty tasty. The bay leaf tea...More

It is not within walking distance. Maybe a 10 minute drive from pier. Tout itself doesn't take but 30 minutes, however there are ruins and buildings you can look at also.

I also had a car but a taxi would be reasonable - the Whim estate isn't that far from the pier. I didn't go to the botanical garden (St. George's, I think), but I heard great things about it. I think they're fairly close... More
