I didn't want to spend time with only an afternoon and possible rain coming traveling to beach further away. Took the ferry across to the Cay and enjoyed some beach cocktails and a little sun. Easy escape from the rain to the bar, and then...More

It costs about 5 dollars to take the ferry across to the cay. The beach is amazing. There’s also a bar with decent drinks.I didn’t enjoy the food that much. Lots of sort of tame iguanas roaming around( I wouldn’t recommend you try to approach...More

I love this beach! I've went various times and it probably is one of the best beaches on St Croix. I love this place and definitely go back every single time that I can.

Check Zillow but I suggest the East end of the Island if you can find a good deal.

Well, you can park at Strand Street, or take your chances parking on the side streets. The fort only allows 2 hour parking. We rented a car for 3 days, 2 nights of trying to find parking was a hazzle.

You can buy a waterproof box, called "scubapro dry box" for approximately 10$, to fit both creditcards, money and keys, works perfectly

generally see them advertised in hand written signs as 'pates' just buy them at any food truck, roadside stand 0r event - they are usually pretty good anywhere but if they are frying them up on premise they are often excellent hot out of the oil instead of sitting under a heat lamp or just stacked in a case. Beef, conch, veggie and saltfish are the most common varieties. A few drops of local hot sauce really bumps up the flavor!!

We are traveling to St Croix this November. We have visited before and recall several restaurants that had regular daily specials such as Taco Tuesday at Maria's, buy one get one free gyros at an (east end?) Greek restaurant, etc... Do you know of any regular daily restaurant specials that we could save a little change while we are there visiting? Any suggestions for a reputable sport bay fishing half day tour? Lastly, it was very windy when we were there a previous November. The water seemed...More

I think Eat has BOGO cheeseburgers on Mondays. Sandwiches at Turtles Deli are big enough for two all week long. Pickled Greek is gone. Wind in November is hit or miss but Christmas winds usually don't start that early. In any case it will always be calmer on the West End beaches, Rainbow, Cottages, Sand Castles etc.

Sand fleas and mosquitoes (9 Replies)
I have been thinking of planning my first trip to St. Croix in late Spring 2015. I enjoy reading the reviews and will probably be submitting questions as I think of them. I notice on the St. Thomas thread there is much mention of experiencing sand fleas and mosquitoes. Would the be an issue in June or July, say at Protestant Cay?

A lot of the mosquito population will depend on how much rain the island has had and if there is any wind. There are also no seeums which just show up to any party they can find .. both mosquitoes and no seeums love to attack me whereas my husband seldom gets bitten. Best suggestion is spray well and often. I don't know anything about the sand fleas. Happy planning ... you are in for a great treat by visiting St. Croix
